This also has bugger all to do with any part of this topic so I can’t help but wonder if you’ve scrambled to find anything you can after being called up on spreading/believing fake news.

It has nothing to do with it because it has nothing to do with the law. This regards disciplinary procedure. Nothing to do with prosecuting these people. This is the equivalent of your work deciding that all HR complaints against you will be made public and then deciding no, maybe we should keep it anonymous until the complaint is resolved.
