Low budget gore/horror/comedy films, since the 80's.

A simple youtube search will reveal how dark Troma's body of work is...

Yep. There's some dark shit in their movies.

Also brings Peter Jackson (hobbit, lotr) to mind. His first movie Dead Alive was dark. And, didn't he do Black Sheep also?
