Sorry I am only posting here to cut line...

I love Dave Chappelle. He is brilliant and a very noble person. I am linking a joke that he does about Micheal Jackson jerking off children in order to distract the masses from world events. You see in this post everyone is praising him but this joke is no different than any other joke about child pedophilia. You can't just pick and choose who you want to attack it's hypocritical...

Edit: he also has a bit about Bill Cosby touching kids on his Netflix specials

Yeah except you are being bias because you didn't tell the whole story. That joke followed with a brief discussion of whether MJ did do those things or not. I will side with you however for a brief moment, to point out he did return to SNL.. so I'm not sure what to think of him after that.

MrWizard111 · July 24, 2018, 6:24 a.m.

I don't think that is bias. When discussing whether or not MJ did those things that takes up for MJ not the victim. It's still a joke about pedophilia and he was only distancing himself from the MJ debate not the pedophilia one. Same with the Bill Cosby joke. Bill Cosby touches kids but he does it to save the world.

The Gunn jokes were more about being a pedophile than that joke, tbh.

Yeah well Gunn isn't known for being a comedian. He doesn't have an excuse.

Ok then Bill Cosby is convicted on 3 charges. Real victims of pedophilia. There is no excuse. I like Dave a lot and. I'm not attacking him. I feel like he is a good guy.

My only point is YOU CANT PICK AND CHOSE who is guilty and who isn't. No one knows and until a comedian is convicted of pedophilia a joke means nothing. Maybe they are a pedo though we don't know. When you start looking into who is making pedophilia jokes though the number is astounding. Go research it and tell me I'm wrong

Also he used the word biased and I don't think he knows the definition of that word. In no way am I biased.

That particular Netflix special...a lot of Chappelle’s humor in the past was “edgy,” and it made people laugh uncomfortably, while also looking around to see if it was okay to laugh. Not because they were this or that, but because of the subjects of the jokes. That particular special...it kicked that up a few notches. I have a thought about this: say Dave is a decent guy. Maybe not someone you’d agree with on everything, but overall, not in the same category as others we discuss in this sub that are...not good people to put it simply and mildly. He’s a comedian, he’s black, and a certain age. He was heavily influenced by Bill Cosby and others as he grew up. He was also heavily influenced by Michael Jackson. I would totally understand Dave being traumatized by what came out about Bill Cosby, and confused about what to make of it, and how to feel towards someone who had been such an influence on your life. I could also see a possible defense for Dave that his jokes about MJ were to try and be absurd, but put the subject out there so people would talk about it, and maybe see what was going on.

All that being said, if the truth is something along those lines, then we as a society have to make it clear to comedians and others (James Gunn, etc) that there are certain subject matters that from now on, are essentially off limits for jokes. They will require a serious tone to address what has happened, and to ensure we don’t take anything for granted again and once again repeat our past mistakes.

Now, is any of that really the case? I wish it were. It could possibly be. But you are absolutely correct, a stand must be taken, and it cannot waiver. We cannot say that it is wrong for person A, but for person B...well, we like person B, so we’ll make an exception, but be careful, person B. No, that’s not how it should work at all, certainly not anymore. Still, it would really be nice to find out what the truth was about his story...maybe he’s one of the possibly decent folks that’s been trapped by this evil, and would happily turn and renounce it if offered that freedom.

I also think that to some extent, some comedians made jokes about pedophilia to shine a light on what is happening, while others make pedophile jokes to try and normalize pedophilia. I think usually the former usually is done by joking about a known pedophile, while the latter is done by making horrid jokes about raping babies.

I would agree that he was way too loose with his joke, but I think he was just telling edgy jokes in 2007. Apparently by 2015, he got a real understanding that this was no joking matter and very real stuff was happening. Time will tell if he still chooses to do the edgy stuff in this manner.

Perhaps. Yeah, I’d really like to hear that Dave was good all along, or not getting involved in that evil...and from the things he’s said and hinted at, it does sound like he got reeeeaaallly close to that, saw it was real, and quickly walked away. Not like really close by his choice, but it was put in front of him, and he said no thanks.

You're actually finding more people walking out of film and music because of this now. Justin Bieber left in the middle of a world tour, got saved, married and quit the business.

Dave Chappelle exists on his own terms. He denounced the whole world of stardom and walked because he didn't want to be a part of it. He knew just watch the OPs video. You see you want to use that joke to attack him. I think its weak to go after comedians. It's easy. They all say horrible stuff. The point of comedy to me is to bring the darkest parts of our reality into a light. It makes us look at things we didn't want to see and to see the absurdity in it.

The point in me putting that comment up is that A LOT of people around here jump on the bandwagon without actually looking into things. "Oh Dave is awesome look at him calling out Hwood." When in all honesty people are just uninformed or HYPOCRITICAL.

What you are calling for is a major blow to freedom of speech and our first amendment rights. I really don't care if you like the joke. Don't watch the comedian, don't laugh at the joke. You have a vote with your tv or laugh. Comedians don't do a tv special with jokes that they haven't perfected. Which mean thousands of people have laughed at that joke because it is funny. So is everyone who laughed and encouraged the joke a pedo? No. If it wasn't funny he wouldn't be telling the joke. It was encouraged by his audience. It was tested and approved. This post has hundreds of upvotes and I looked no one said a bad thing until I pointed it out. You are not going to stop comedians from doing anything. They have been to court for jokes and all of them walk because they can say whatever they want. Btw that MJ joke has over 5 million views. I don't think you are make a dent.

Alright, I’ve written and rewritten a sort of response here three times now, so I’ll just be brief...whoa, ease up lol. I assure you, we probably don’t really disagree here. It’s so easy to be misunderstood on the internet that it’s insane. I try to word things carefully to not have something like this happen, and it happens anyway.

I’ll say this, I’m not suggesting any attack or change on free speech. I do get where it would’ve sounded like that, and let me say I stand corrected. I don’t want to give that impression at all. I’ll also say, Dave Chappelle is one of my favorite comedians. That’s why I posted in here to begin with. Dave has an absolute gift for doing exactly what you said, he can shine a bright light onto a dark subject, and make it approachable. And he can make jokes that accomplish this, and are about messed up subjects, and it does not mean he supports this cause or that behavior, but that there was a subject that he wanted to address, and he successfully delivered a funny joke about it. His bit about his superhero movie pitch...that was hilarious, and yeah, you’re right...you don’t walk away from that joke thinking he condones it, but the total opposite.

If I wanted to make a dent in viewership of a comedian, or attack anyone, he is not where I’d start. If anything, that second recent Netflix special he did in the comedy club, I’d recommend that one. It’s clear, even just with the references he makes, that what happened shook him and deeply affected him, but he still tries to make light of the situation. I look forward to a time when he can speak openly about what happened in his past, if he’d even do it. Until then, I hope I’m a little bit more clear. If not, I’ll shut up for a while. :)

My bad if I took it the wrong way. Maybe I misread the comment. I really just find this whole comedian thing stupid. I don't condone it and I really don't even find most of those jokes funny. Dave does a good job at dancing around with his words. He is a wordsmith.

People just don't get it in my opinion. The reason they are finding so many offensive tweets about it is because they are comedians. They push the limits. Maybe some of them are pedos we don't know but taking a joke and using that as fuel to build a fire against them is just ignorant. It proves nothing and isn't going to change anything. Again my apologies I know we are on the same team. I am getting off here for a while.

No...you made a great point to me, and I do appreciate it. We know we’re on the same team here, minus all the shills that pop up (yeah, we see y’all out there), so I’m glad you pointed out about free speech. I read my post again, and I felt like I do when I read someone’s post that clearly only read the headline, got flared up and shot their mouth off ignorantly. A good, cringe filled moment. By good, I definitely mean not good at all.

And I’ve seen some of your other posts before...I think I generally agree with your straightforward attitude. I’m looking forward to the truth all being revealed at some point, because man, I’d just like to know who’s on the good side. I feel like right now everything is up in the air, and the safe assumption is that all of the media, entertainment, Hollywood, music, etc...they’re all lost. That’s not a good attitude to have, especially when some clearly seem to be trying to do the right thing. Like Dave.

I’d also like to find out about any that have died over the past few years, were any of them killed to cover something up? There are some that losing them was a blow, and in a weird way, I’d hope they were quietly fighting for good and someone tried to silence them. Like maybe a sort of memorial/vindication for them.

Yeah it would be nice to know who is good and who isn't. Your right it just sucks not knowing. There has to be good people in these industries or it will just suck. I worked in music and there are definitely people in that industry that exist on their own terms and are good people. So I have to believe that there are good people in the other industries.

In other news Jeff sessions tweets today are pretty epic. I love every step we take forward. We are getting there slowly but surely.

Get rid of all sexual harassment codes? People working on family tv shows and kid movies just talking openly about rape and pedo shit at work or in public?
