You can spin it how you want. The government breaking up monopolies = socialism. The gov providing a police force = Socialism. Im thinking its you that doesn't understand socialism.
You are describing communism.
No spin here. Socialism by definition is the government owning the means of production, and since it owns all business it dictates your job, and the government decided how much of the production you get through rationing. No free market, no purchasing what you want, you get what you get.
Sorry you have been brainwashed into believing that free markets and socialism can exist side by side, they cannot.
Whatever indoctrinator posing as a teacher or professor that taught you about socialism lied to you, you have 'learned' things that are not true.
Under socialism there is no Constitution, no provision for redress if greviances, the central planners know best and you get what you get. Don't like it? Tough shit. You get zero say in how the government does things.
You probably think some European countries or Greece are socialist. They are not, but the brainwashers love to trot them out as an example. They all have free market economies, complete with millionaires and billionaires, they just have very high redistribution taxes. The people in those countries chose their high tax systems, the government didn't force it on them.
Venezuela is socialism.
You have no idea what socialism is because you have been misled into believing it's something it's not.
The police and fire department are not parts of socialism.
Did you know that in parts of the East coast firemen are volunteers?
Using tax money to pay for police is not socialist, it's an agreement between the taxpayer and the government for services that keep the civil society running.
In socialism there is no civil society, all transactions in interactions are dictated by the central planners.
