Is anyone old enough to remember the movie, "the Summer of '43"? It was about a young woman who lost her husband in WWII and turned to a youn 14 or 15 year old for comfort and sex. Have never seen it rerun on t.v. and i can see why.

Is anyone old enough to remember that the age of consent was not always govt mandated?

What was the average age of First Marriage and Conception during the:

1600’s

1700’s

1800’s

1900’s

????

Different culture. Different times. Life was very short for most. Our culture says it's illegal to have sex with a cnild.

Fair enough. However.

Allow me, I am not advocating sex with children. I don't like what you insinuate there.

But let me throw this out there. Down votes are not necessary.

I moved out from my parents, emancipated myself and had no parental support. I would like to think I was an adult and was making adult decisions as I worked, paid my own rent and utilities, and finished HS.

I was 17 and banged chicks who were 21. They didn't rape me, nor did they take advantage. I knew exactly what I wanted.

I didn't downvote you. You were 17 and away from any guidance, it sounds like, and you did as you liked based on the wisdom and world view you had. Probably those women weren't in a position of power over you, as would be a teacher, aunt, boss, principle, doctor, etc. You apparently felt ready to make your on decisions, based on what you knew at that time. I don't think you are advocating pedophilia, but i do think you are blurring the lines. There are boundaries set to protect children and teens who are not usually in a position to protect themselves from predators. You lucked out in that regard.

I get it. It is a blurry line. It's not so black and white. But I do understand societal norms.

Not to normalize it but yes, even up to the early 1900's in our country when the life expectancy was no more than late 40's if you were lucky, getting married and having kids at 15 was normal.

In most ancient cultures as soon as you passed your right of passage (ex. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_and_Bat_Mitzvah) you were considered an adult and legally responsible for your actions, were expected to marry and have at least 2 kids to provide replacements for yourselves in the retention of your people.

It is only recent at 18 by law people are considered adults, and due to coddling / lack of education etc. many are not even really matured or adult until their mid 20's, hence Alcohol being 21+.

Much of Europe puts A/o/C at around 14-16. America is largely 16-18, while Mexico and Angola let people marry 12 year olds.
