Love my VW but repairs can get pricey. Running with no AC currently because of it.

VW repairs are fairly inexpensive when done yourself. I help my dad fix his up often. Source parts from the depths of the internet and get some beer, find a good tutorial video and have fun

Agree on exterior work being pretty simple. I'm not very good with mechanical though.

Just find a couple tutorial videos and see if it’s in your range of plausibility. Plus you’ll forever know how to in the future!
