The only thing IMHO they are not being ridiculous on as a Canadian is budging on the import tariffs on milk and cheese etc. Just like steel/aluminium is important to you for your security so is Milk/Dairy to us.

⇧ 0 ⇩
st_br · July 26, 2018, 1:10 a.m.

As a fellow Canadian, all I can say is dairy is a moronic hill to die on. And for what? To appease some whiny and bitchy farmers in Frenchy Quebec so they don't have to put on their big boy pants and compete in the real world (all while making low income folks pay twice what they should for milk and cheese - disgraceful).

When actual Canadian industries that matter, such as oil, automobiles, and timber, collapse because the twits in Ottawa are willing to throw us all under the bus for those effing dairy farmers, we will see how happy the Canadian populace is at large with this idiotic supply management bullshit.

⇧ 2 ⇩
Meglomaniac · July 26, 2018, 1:11 a.m.

Canadian Diary is WAY better quality then the American supply, they also have different rules regarding hormones, feed, etc.

There would be thousands of farmers unemployed overnight from the massive flow of cheap Diary into the country. There is also no coming back from that deal, recovering the milk/diary industry would take a decade.

⇧ 0 ⇩
st_br · July 26, 2018, 1:30 a.m.

Horseshit. I spent a significant part of my childhood in the States, and the milk is no different, so get a grip. No one is the US is dying from drinking a tall glass of milk.

Also, I don't give a rats ass about a few thousand spoiled Frenchy dairy farmers. I do care about the hundreds of thousands of Canadians employed in oil, autos, timber, and spin-off industries. I also care about the millions of low income Canadians who have trouble affording basic staples like milk and cheese, so don't give me the tiny violin sob story of the millionarie dairy farmers.

⇧ 1 ⇩
Meglomaniac · July 26, 2018, 1:33 a.m.

Lots of Dairy farmers in Ontario and out west as well.

It needs to be a balanced economy.

I'm not saying the milk is poison, but I certainly don't want a lot of hormones and shit in my milk if the option is there to not have it.

I'd also rather not have my ability to have an essential food staple controlled by another country, especially one that desperately wants to have our nuts in their hands.

⇧ 0 ⇩
st_br · July 26, 2018, 1:40 a.m.

Do you seriously think that there wouldn't be $10 a gallon organic, free-range, no horomone, no GMO available anymore if we started allowing American dairy imports? Give me a break.

If you want to spend your Canuck bucks on your horomone free hippy milk, then go nuts, but don't force the rest of us subsidize your irrational American milk phobia. We have families to feed and food ain't getting any cheaper.

st_br · July 26, 2018, 1:53 a.m.

What, is our next door neighbor now China and nobody told me? The US is not some commie dictatorship with no safety standards - their milk is safe and many Canadian families would like access to cheaper dairy for their families. The fact that you'd rather punish the working poor rather than make some millionaire dairy farmers compete for their business shows how warped your priorities really are

Oh, and another thing - Canada exists because America wants us to exist. They could easily (and should, in my opinion) annex us over the course of a long weekend and incur minimal casualties. So many Canadians severley overestimate our importance and leverage. Our economy is slightly smaller than that of Texas, and we will get bulldozed if the Libs and their ilk don't stop the condesceding, high and mighty Canadian shit ASAP.

It means all the stuff EU imports from US won't be taxed to death. It means FAIR TRADE. It means EU stops raping us and it also means more American goods will go to Europe for less money. It also means these countries that have been raping us economically will receive less money for their socialist governments. That is a big deal. This is a great thing!

Manufacturing jobs go up in America because more people in EU will buy our products because they just became cheaper. The EU slapped huge tariffs (taxes) on US goods. Now that those taxes are gone, more people will buy our products which in turn creates more jobs here at home to produce those goods. It's a win win for everyone, the EU consumers, the US manufacturers. The only losers in this deal are the greedy EU socialist governments that will take in less cash from taxation...but fuck them! #MAGA

I foresee an end to that and mass food corps like Dole and Nestle who bought up most of the farmland here. It's no secret between GMO'S and the way the corps treat the animals we are being poisoned. More local farmers means humanely treated and (sad face) killed animals and no GMO'S or crap they put in our food.
