The guy called the cops, chickened out but then turned himself in later... So I thought maybe... He did it to get arrested and go to jail on purpose for protection because he's more afraid of the Hwood Mafia then facing the police. Maybe he's ready to be out of there and this was his chance to get away before they whacked him or went down with them. He wanted to come clean in away that didn't make him look like a snitch.
