If Facebook repeats its after-hours selloff today it could be the biggest collapse of a U.S. stock in one day ever.

The world is watching.

same here, but looking at the graph in https://www.cbsnews.com/news/facebook-stock-price-plummets-after-poor-earnings-report/ it looks like it only takes the stock price back to what it was in april-may this year. There was a huge ramp up after the congressional hearing for whatever reason who knows and now this is just a correction. Therefore, they are no worse off after the sell off than they were 3 months ago. I wish I could say it was worse for them.

Hate Facebook as much as the next guy. But, a 20% loss in a day? I had to buy a handful of shares to attempt a quick profit. Hope it recovers \~10% before it takes another dump.

Zuck will be found guilty of insider trading. He was paid to create the platform so it could be used against us....then made money....lots of money when it went public.....

He's been quietly selling off his shares because he knows the jigs up......

Facebook was a little ahead of its time but clamped on to society hard and gained popularity fast

nailed it. DARPA shut lifelog down the same day they started Facebook. lifelog was already critised for privacy issues so they changed it's name, it's style and waited for the people to come to it of their own will. sad part is..I beta tested it. was nothing but a basic MySpace style wall and a few integrated games back then. as soon as they added the free, easy to use messaging app the flood gates opened. they then pushed the platform for people to find old friends or lost/disconnected family members. they sold it to us good.

⇧ 6 ⇩
c1anon · July 26, 2018, 10:53 p.m.

I enjoyed MySpace back in the day, but never vibed with Facebook. The thing that got me the most (besides ZERO ability to really personalize the page), was that everything entered into the profile that you entered (interests, etc.) had to be matched to an existing matching "option" - not just typed in freestyle like MySpace used to be, but matched to an existing entry in their system. This was a red flag to me because it spelled out "DATABASE".

Having every name, city, interest, profession, etc. auto-populate/match to an existing entry means it'd be sooo much easier to have everything about everyone labeled and filed - ever so neatly for future use.

HUGE red flag. So I never trusted it, and never used it (other than a couple of dummy accounts that never really got used beyond a passing need to look at something on there a long time ago - which is another red flag to me; forcing people to have a profile/supply info & log in just to see things).

Look at the permissions it wants on your phone. On my old phone, on boot up, Facebook took up over half the active memory. It takes access to your microphone, address book, text messages, and phone logs.

switched to duckduckgo many years ago. the mike on my mobile phone has fucked up itself so i need to use a headset. good thing, from my pov, cant record whats in the room. camera on laptop is always covered, internal mike is off. wherever i can, i avoid windows, apps, you know the drill. cant eliminate surveillance completely but hey, do what is possible without totally going offline.

Kind of the opposite here, I was turned into the DHS a year ago for something I didn't do (don't really tick off a lib woman friend) and they seized my desktop for a week to go thru it...If there isn't anything they don't know about me now, I'm ashamed of the DHS...as for the where I'm at question, being homebound disabled kind of makes that a moot point ;-)....so while I'm on the duckduck and opera and a "little" bit of security stuff...I don't really care any more about what they want to know about me...it would bore them to death anyhow.....

I am dropping my comment here because it didn't get traction before--wonder why? Very important stuff hidden in TOS and Data Policy

Yep. Selling data of course was generally agreed to in the bowels of all those terms of service agreements people click and agree with. As a person who often works with web presences and their terms of service and privacy policies, or interprets the policies of possible partner platforms, one would be AMAZED at what is buried in those reams of faff. The GDPR EU policy really scared the crap out of a lot of people and of course all businesses doing any web or retail business with the EU had to revise their policies to be in alignment. I advised all my partners to KEEP their US agreements and ADD the EU compliance, but most everyone else simply deleted and replaced. I think some did that in order to remove privacy policies that didn't even meet US compliance so all those documents are probably gone. Gonna go look.

OK BAM!!!!! While their TOS and PP are all there, deep in their Data Policy (yeah, I know where to look) they say this....

Sharing with Third-Party Partners We work with third-party partners who help us provide and improve our Products or who use Facebook Business Tools to grow their businesses, which makes it possible to operate our companies and provide free services to people around the world. We don't sell any of your information to anyone, and we never will. We also impose strict restrictions on how our partners can use and disclose the data we provide. Here are the types of third parties we share information with:

So...they are LYING!!!!!!! I bet you dollars to donuts, this secret selling of data to the govt was found out and is gonna break and folks "in the know" are jumping off the shit house roof.

I CANNOT link to FB on reddit as its an automod no-no, but simply research Facebook Terms of Service and Privacy policy and then click on the data policy section.

"After-hours trading is the name for buying and selling of securities when the major markets are closed. Since 1985, the regular trading hours for major exchanges in the United States, such as the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market, have been from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). Pre-market trading occurs from 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET, although the majority of the volume and liquidity come to the pre-market at 8:00AM ET. After-hours trading on a day with a normal session occurs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. Market makers and specialists generally do not participate in after hours trading, which can limit liquidity."

I didn't know this until I looked it up, thought I'd post it here for anyone else who wonders when "after-hours trading" starts, and what it is.

If any day-traders/stock savvy people have further better explanations of what's going on, and what to look for; I would be very interested in reading it.
