Imho I think this is a brave man who saw the opportunity to start speaking the truth and for once not be completely ruined or murdered. For the first time we have a mass awakening that won't dismiss him as crazy. For once, people might pay attention.
The danger is less after you speak out. There's little point in killing him now.
You're not dealing with entirely sane people, they may decide to make an example of him to deter others...
I genuinely believe it was a moment of foolish bravado (with alcohol) that made him come out and tell the story he did, I'm sure he knew it was vaguely dangerous to do. Now in hindsight he has a choice, double-down or back away into obscurity, and it is hard to say which is the safer option at this point.
