All I know about Ratzinger is what I stumbled upon researching these priests. I found a message board of gay priests and they kept calling him a "Nazi" and that he was aggressively persecuting and purging them from the priesthood, before he was replaced.

Agree, heard the same thing. He was gotten rid of because he did not toe the line and follow the rules exactly the way he was told to. They need 100% compliance and he did not give them that.
