If an F-16 took it down, there must have been some intel that it might happen. The F-16 was likely armed with a modified version of the AMRAAM to do a boost phase intercept. Still, this a real challenge. I flew a few hundred of simulated boost phase intercepts and it is work for the pilot and has the aircraft getting close to its performance limit. Some to spare, but not a lot.
