Q's pen was put not necessarily on a desk, but on the piano in the picture on the left.

Low reflectivity, textured woodgrains. This picture is in Holly Cabin at Camp David. All other tables I've seen in Camp David are too reflective to give the same image shown by Q in >>8159

Picture was taken from the opposite side of the piano, in the Music Room of the house.

Is Q's photo a metaphor for making certain people "sing"?

The picture that Q posted was taken from the opposite side of the desk, probably early morning, perhaps 10am or so. It was a clear day that morning I believe. Also, if there was snow it would be even more reflective, from natural light coming from the open door.

The picture I showed, is either late evening, or at night, with a camera flash. Notice the lack of reflectivity off the piano in both instances.
