1.Joe Baca foundation
WASHINGTON — Representative Joe Baca has achieved near celebrity status in his suburban Los Angeles district, as much for his record of giveaways — Thanksgiving turkeys, college scholarships, spare boots for firefighters — as for anything he has done in Congress.
That generosity is made possible by the Joe Baca Foundation, a charity his family set up three years ago to aid local organizations. It provides another benefit, too: helping the Democratic congressman run something akin to a permanent political campaign.
Joe Baca T-shirts and caps are given out at the charity’s events, where banners display his name. Local newspapers mention the charity’s donations, and cable stations show appearances by Mr. Baca and his family at functions his foundation supports.

Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana's Children( Bobby Jindal)
WASHINGTON — Louisiana’s biggest corporate players, many with long agendas before the state government, are restricted in making campaign contributions to Gov. Bobby Jindal. But they can give whatever they like to the foundation set up by his wife months after he took office.
AT&T, which needed Mr. Jindal, a Republican, to sign off on legislation allowing the company to sell cable television services without having to negotiate with individual parishes, has pledged at least $250,000 to the Supriya Jindal Foundation for Louisiana’s Children.
Marathon Oil, which last year won approval from the Jindal administration to increase the amount of oil it can refine at its Louisiana plant, also committed to a $250,000 donation. And the military contractor Northrop Grumman, which got state officials to help set up an airplane maintenance facility at a former Air Force base, promised $10,000 to the charity.

Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation in Palo Alto, Calif., which seeks to “create positive outcomes for future generations” through environmental conservation, science, and patient care. The foundation is the youngest of the group, being established in 2000 by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore and his wife, Betty. With $5.3 billion in assets, according to the Foundation Center, the foundation is a grant maker in addition to operating five initiatives: the Andes-Amazon Initiative, the Betty Irene Moore Nursing Initiative, the Marine Conservation Initiative, the Marine Microbiology Initiative, and the Wild Salmon Ecosystems Initiative. The foundation also considerably funds the California Institute of Technology in nearby Pasadena, Calif., along with the proposed Thirty Meter Telescope to be built on the summit of the Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii.
John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is the organization that awards MacArthur Fellowships –– more commonly known as “genius grants” –– but even non-geniuses benefit from the work of the foundation, which “supports creative people and effective institutions committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world.” Established in 1970 by insurance giant John D. MacArthur and his wife, Catherine, the Chicago-based foundation uses its $5.7 billion in assets (as detailed by the Foundation Center) to award grants for international programs; USprograms; media, culture, and special initiatives; and, of course, the MacArthur Fellows Program. Specific projects include human rights and international justice, community and economic development, and public interest media. The foundation’s home city of Chicago is especially supported in the areas of arts and culture, housing, and juvenile justice.
David and Lucile Packard Foundation works in a variety of areas to “improve the lives of children, families, and communities –– and to restore and protect our planet.” HP co-founder David Packard and his wife, Lucile, established the foundation in 1964. With $5.7 billion in assets, according to the Foundation Center, it awards grants in the areas of conservation and science; population and reproductive health; and children, families, and communities. The foundation also has a local grantmaking program that supports geographic areas of special significance to the Packard family. The five counties surrounding the foundation’s Los Altos, Calif., headquarters –– San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito –– and Packard’s hometown of Pueblo, Colo., all receive unique attention in this local grantmaking program. Program-related investments are also made by the foundation in its overall philanthropy.
Did the plane Fags ever cover this? i think it happened while all the crazy stuff was occurring on cbts board.
PHOENIX - Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It was definitely a plane, and it created quite the stir on social media after it was seen circling Phoenix for several hours Thursday night.
Viewers reported seeing a plane "circle" above the Phoenix metro for at least five hours, and generated several theories as to what the plane was or what it was actually doing.
As it turns out, the plane belonged to the Phoenix Police Department.
Police would only say the plane was being used for a training operation, or to assist in an active investigation, in which case they cannot comment.

Fantastic job!!
Lilly Endowment focuses its efforts exclusively in its home state of Indiana. Three members of the family that founded Lilly pharmaceuticals –– J. K. Lilly Sr. and sons J. K. Jr. and Eli –– created the endowment in 1937 with money from stocks in their company. Today, with just over $6 billion in assets, according to the Foundation Center, the endowment concentrates on two areas: community development and religion. Community foundations across the state are supported by grants in a process the endowment calls a “virtuous circle” –– that is, according to the American Heritage Dictionary, a condition in which a favorable circumstance or result gives rise to another that subsequently supports the first. And although the endowment has faced critical questions over the years because of its support of religion, the Lilly family has maintained that being a member of a congregation is an important part of a person’s life.
Children are often the focus of many charitable organizations, and the W. K. Kellogg Foundation is very active in striving to “assure that all children have an equitable and promising future –– a nation in which all children thrive.” Will Keith Kellogg, founder of the Kellogg’s food manufacturing company, initially started the foundation in 1930 to support Michigan children; the Michigan Community Health Project also provided cooperation in this initiative. With $7.2 billion in assets, according to the Foundation Center, the foundation continues to work in its home state of Michigan, but also operates in Latin America, the Caribbean, southern Africa, and the rest of the United States. The foundation classifies its activities in the following ways: leading dialogue, sustaining communities, investing in opportunity, sharing expertise, and advocating change. Grants are awarded to organizations and individuals who endorse children’s education and health, secure families, racial equality, and civic engagement.
The other co-founder of HP wanted in on philanthropy, too. The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation seeks to “solve social and environmental problems at home and around the world.” William R. Hewlett, co-founder of the previously mentioned HP, established the foundation in 1966 with his wife and eldest son. Mr. Hewlett’s personal mantra was to “never stifle a generous impulse.” With $7.2 billion in assets, according to the Foundation Center, the Menlo Park, Calif., foundation today operates five programs in the areas of education, environment, global development and population, performing arts, and effective philanthropy. The foundation is also a significant grantmaker; $304 million was awarded in 2012, and a median grant in 2011 amounted to $125,000, according to its website. Foundation executives say it’s important to take risks in grantmaking, along with emphasizing the need to acknowledge and learn from failures in funding philanthropic ventures.
While many charitable organizations devote time and money to health initiatives, only the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation can say it is the largest nonprofit dedicated solely to “improv[ing] the health and health care of all Americans.” Robert W. Johnson II, son of Johnson & Johnson co-founder Robert W. Johnson, established the Johnson New Brunswick Foundation in 1936 to aid New Jerseyans most affected by the Great Depression. The foundation was renamed to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 1952, and 20 years later, it officially broadened its reach beyond the borders of the Garden State. With almost $9 billion in assets, according to the Foundation Center, the foundation covers a full spectrum of health-related issues; it works in the four “priority topics” of health policy, prevention, cost and value, and leadership. Specific projects include efforts to reverse childhood obesity and ensure coverage for the uninsured, in addition to grantmaking across the board.
Charitable organizations strive to touch lives, and that’s exactly what the J. Paul Getty Trust seeks to do through “presentation, conservation, and interpretation of the world’s artistic legacy.” In 1948, oil tycoon and art lover J. Paul Getty donated a number of pieces from his personal collection to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; five years later, he started his own museum open to the public. With $10.4 billion in assets, according to the Foundation Center, the trust today administers two locations of the J. Paul Getty Museum. The Getty Center in Los Angeleshouses European and American pieces, while the Getty Villa in the Pacific Palisades is home to works from ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Other components of the trust include research opportunities and conservation activities. This year, almost 600 individuals applied for 40 spots in the Getty scholars program.
With almost $11 billion in assets, according to the Foundation Center, the Ford Foundation is dedicated to “working with visionary leaders and organizations to change social structures and institutions.” Established in 1936 by Edsel Ford, son of Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford, the foundation has initiatives in North and Latin America, Africa, and Asia. It also awards grants to organizations and individuals working in three main areas. The first of these is economic opportunity and assets; the second is democracy, rights, and justice; and the third is education, creativity, and free expression. The New York City-based foundation makes around 1,400 grants annually
Describing itself as an organization of impatient optimists, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation comes in first place with $34.6 billion in its asset trust endowment, according to the Foundation Center. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates started the foundation in 1994 with his wife, Melissa, with the goal of “unlock[ing] the possibility of every individual;” in fact, Mr. Gates moved out of Microsoft’s day-to-day operations in 2008 to devote more of his time to his philanthropic efforts. Today, the Seattle-based foundation is still dedicated to its mission through initiatives and grantmaking to other organizations it trusts to operate in line with foundation goals. The foundation works in four program areas across six continents: global health, global development, US education, and global policy and advocacy. In 2006, billionaire investor Warren Buffett began his annual tradition of donating Berkshire Hathaway shares to the foundation; his 2012 gift was worth $1.52 billion.
