My days as broadcast engineer had me in news room plenty.
Here's what I make of it:
Tangent (or Gannett) is a pay-to-access new feed agency. Your station/network subscribes to get press releases of shit that their team of (fake news or not) reporters, (or mockingbird operatives in this case) submit stories which you can pick and choose. Payment by what you select (a-la-carte) or by unlimited contract (buffet).
You select the news stories you want, but many come pre-selected for "network affiliates" like a story that NBC "pushes" to its affiliates.
This is why you hear the same "buzzwords" across a thousand media outlets. This is the "news masters" or "top of the pyramid".
It is also why there are no "real" reporters anymore.
To be fair, there are many of these "agencies", the "associated press" is an old one.
