A friend mentioned the movie Arrival to me in a message and I remembered the story line somewhat, but figured it had been quite some Time since watching it, so I sat for another viewing. I believe this movie was covered earlier, but I won't be talking much about the plot etc, but more about the Time component.

Super quick synopsis. Louise is a linguist called in to attempt to communicate with Aliens that have landed. Some odd memories happen. It turns out the memories are from the future and it helps Louise solve the crisis set in the film.
The first time I watched the flick, I figured the memories were just normal memories of the past. The big twist in the movie is that the memories are not from the past, but are of events to come. Louise is remembering stuff that is to come in Time.
There have been several Looking Glass discussions going around in the past on TL and recently in other discussions. I have always seen PLG discussions with a certain perspective. The general theory I had was if PLG tech was here, there are people that are attempting to steer society, culture and events in a new direction. Maybe something needs to be avoided, maybe something bad happens, on and on. A branch we traveled which we should avoid.
My iterations of thought revolved around someone or some group altering what is to come to a more favorable outcome. I never paused to look at the other side of the coin. The other possibility.
In Arrival Louise would have known these events had never occurred and that they were not past events (the twist was just for Movie purposes). So young Louise sees future events and they help her communicate…. great.
But what I found stunning was that she knew that that future would happen and made the choices anyways. She knew that she would marry her fellow Scientist Ian, have a child, that she would cause the destruction of that marriage, and that their daughter would die an early death. She had to move forward on that timeline.
She had to make the decision, fully knowing that it would destroy her marriage an cause massive pain to her, her daughter, and husband, to tell Ian that their daughter would die early. That telling of Ian that info would be painful and she needed to do it in order to make the timeline happen that helped her solve the problem in the past.
Deviation from making the choices she did would cause problems and potentially lead to that timeline not happening and the issue not being solved. She had to follow the painful road for the greater good.
So, if PLG tech/ability is feasible. How amazingly difficult would it be for an individual to know what will happen and know that they must still allow the bad stuff to happen in order to make it to where we need to go. Could 1 stand by and watch pain and destruction without interfering knowing that it must occur. A painful or poor choice of yours, a death of another, a disaster that could be avoided with a word.
The weight to Not Alter, would be too much for the vast majority.
Anywho, glad I watched it a 2nd time, it opened up something I had not contemplated before.
Much love All!
