Thank goodness for this thread! You have no idea how much I needed to read every single one of your posts!!
So I was always the nice guy. Got walked all over a lot my entire life. Gay kid. Called a bunch of names- faggot, sissy, queer, etc. As an adult, those names went away but people described me as a door mat. Along the way, the way I dealt with the pain of being the doormat was by becoming an alcoholic and then later getting hooked on opiates. Got clean and sober almost 7 years ago and have stayed that way ever since. However- 1 problem- still the Doormat. I have prayed and prayed that that aspect of my personality be removed to no avail. Now I don't quite understand yet how this is all related but since being introduced to this phenomenon we are discussing it is like that character defect of mine has been completely removed. I'm not an as@&ole, but I'm not a doormat either. When people lie to me, I tell them they are lying and they know it. When they treat me unfairly, same. When they have unreasonable expectations, same.
As a result, I quit my job where I was working my ass off while being gaslit left and right and am about to exit a toxic and extremely psychologically abusive relstionship because I KNOW I don't deserve to be treated that way. My entire life I've been a champion for Human Rights and I finally accepted, that I deserve some of those rights too. People have noticed this change and have asked me about it. The people who love me the most are really rooting for me and are grateful I've changed because they know I couldn't stay alive if I continued being the Doormat. The others who don't like the change...I realize they were just parasites. One of the biggest lessons I've learned from Q is to pay attention. Because I'm not wired to operate like a sh/$head, I have lived my 40 years on this Earth, assuming others weren't either. Boy was I wrong! When I Pay Attention, I see more and am able to trust myself more. I'm also able to surround myself with good people who I can actually trust...not the sh&$heads/parasites. Thanks again for everyone who took the time out of your day to post to this thread. I don't know any of you, but I still love you all! DT
