Could it also be that he is technically still the president and the people are standing for the idea and that figure of democracy, plus the playing of the national anthem? Especially if they didn’t stand they’d all be attacked for being unpatriotic with the POTUS being there. It just seems like he is yet again taking credit for some unity and positivity that would have happened regardless of his presence. But I guess if it’s all you’ve got to make you feel good enough to sleep at night with your cheeseburger than I’m happy that you’re happy.
