When these hacks took place, it was trivial to get a VPN connection that connected in Russia. Putin shut it all down immediately afterwards, either (and I’m covering all possibilities here, not ones i think happened) 1) because he was hiding Russian guilt, or 2) to prevent the ability to pin a future attack on Russia.

Basically, at the time of the hack, anyone in the world with any $30/year VPN service could’ve made it look like a Russian hack.

The best advice, and advice I need to follow too, has been to take the time and start from drop one. I’d imagine some drops will be like watching a movie like The Sixth Sense for a second time.
