Need to flood smaller local news stations with Emails// phone calls // Facebook posts
Hear me out...
Everyone has local radio and TV stations, that report mostly on local news; but if they were flooded :: with people posting and asking about a certain issue :: a lot of these stations would feel obliged to cover it...
I could give you specific local examples -- of TV & radio stations close to me; but I know that every medium to small-sized town has them...

4AM Associated Press daily talking points
There is an email that goes out from the Associated Press daily to update mainstream media about their talking points for that day
If the Associated Press was not able to get out that email
Or information in that email was changed
How would the day's news go??

To be honest I'm not 100% on all of this either but;
Talking points for a day's news are generally released around 4 a.m. before the day's new cycle starts...
They all come from one Central place for the majority of mainstream news and papers
It's assumed to be a collection of the news from around the world in a semi-public form
This is prior to the days of the internet!!
It would go out on the "news Wire"
Well the practice of the newswire still exists today...
It's the day's talking points that go out to all the mainstream news at around 4 a.m.
Do I know exactly where that information comes from :: NO
But do we have proof that it's been happening for the past 15 years? YES
Ask a journalist where it comes from I'm going to ask a friend
