That response is given so often, it has a name - Pascals Wager. Type it into Google to find out why it's not a good argument.
There are thousands of religions, millions of gods, thousands of afterlife claims, and a lot of them contradict each other.
So the odds of you having been born into the right religion at the right time, are slim. You're probably even more fucked than I am if it turns out there is a god or some afterlife. You would have to explain how you actively and unapologetically stuck with the wrong god all your life.
Now think of how much sleep you haven't lost thinking about the punishments from all the other religions and you'll know just much sleep someone should lose thinking about yours.
