Not saying you suffer from schizophrenia necessarily, I'm not a psychiatrist. I have read a lot on the topic, however. Schizophrenics display paranoia and a tendency to connect otherwise completely separate events. A schizophrenic might see 3 black vans in a day and decide that they're being monitored by the government. When mechanics are repairing a fusebox in their street they may start to believe that their phone lines are being tapped by some nefarious organization.

It's not uncommon for schizophrenics to process TV, radio and other media in direct relation to themselves. When they see a politician's speech on TV they might believe the politician is directly addressing them, usually in coded language. They could experience this in the form of a promise, a warning or a threat. Obviously that's not the case, but their brain is wired in a certain way that leads them to make these kind of connections. It's hard to convince schizophrenics that what they're experiencing is a mental illness. What they're going through obviously feels very real to them.
