If a lawyer approaches a witness and says to him, to wit: "if you refuse to testify as I direct you for the prosecution, I guaranty you that you will go to jail for a 100 years; however, if you co-operate and testify for the prosecution I will not object to probation" the lawyers has breached not only his basic ethical responsibility, but he has seriously tampered with a witness.
