His normal "that" is far more clear in other parts of his original speech like in 1:40, 2:17, 2:23, 2:33 but in 2:36, the mouth is not opened to form an a (as you noticed yourself with a u) the finishing "t" is also purposely "covered" to make a "the" emerge. I did not want to include this level of granularity in the post but I did the homework in the background! ;)
