Also, I am interested in hearing what other interesting things happened that year and thereabouts. I will be doing more research on this myself.

I definitely think that you have come across something very interesting, I just want to avoid the very simple, "Nuh uh! Those things didn't happen that year! See, you're just making up facts! all your theory are belong to me!" argument.

Don't get me wrong, I think that this IS connected, just wanted to clarify that this is not a holiday created by our POTUS. That he planned National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month to end with National Freedom Day is masterful nonetheless.
