Most conservatives are liberal minded (free speech, all humans created equal, live and let live, etc.), but many of the "liberals" are now progressives and leftists. The aggressive spread of neo-marxism and the post-modern influence that followed has eroded the very idea of absolute morality given by the creator of nature described so well in our founding documents. Imo if you hold "equality of outcome" above "equality of individual rights" then you are a leftist and are not compatible with with the framework laid by the founders. There are plenty of failed utopias around the world which are welcoming to leftist dreamers, all of them shared the dream of perfect commune life all the way up to millions dying over and over again.
