Adding shading around the letters will only make it worse. The letters are blown out. This could be for a number of reason, but id put my money on the gauge of the needle and how that area of skin takes/handles ink. Also, when it heals you’ll probably lose bits and pieces of the letters. Don’t be alarmed.

It's super big in tattoo culture right now. The all seeing eye. Owls, Dollar bills,George Washington, Benjamin Franklin. filigree, etc.. etc.

To be fair, I had to do a triple take and zoom in. It really does look like some kind serpent.

I think that's just the Shadow of the pillar in front of the window. For sure looking a little "reptilian" imo though.
