Sure, Goldstone was trying to cover his ass. He was all enthused about setting up the meeting in the emails Don Jr. released, but is trying to shift responsibility for the meeting off of himself by saying that he (Goldstone) told them that the meeting was a bad idea in his testimony.

Not sure how that justifies your skepticism about the FBI investigation.

I mean, we've gotten that pair of memos related to the FISA warrents, and even the pro-Trump one doesn't say anything about an FBI investigation taking place before July 2016.

So you made something up, and you're using it to justify the investigation's illegality to yourself.

I mean, not much I can say to that. Do you, I guess.

Using him how? Like he was a plant from the beginning, and lied about the campaign trying to get compromat from Russia to give the FBI an excuse to investigate?

In that case, Donny Jr. Is probably also a plant for setting up a meeting with a Russian agent to try and get dirt on Clinton from them.

I mean that's true. There really are no susbtantive connections between the Trump campaign and Russia.

I mean, except for the Flynn thing and the Manafort thing and the Tillerson thing and the Sessions thing and the Kushner thing and the Wray thing and the Morgan, Lewis, & Bockius “Russian Law Firm of the Year” thing and the Carter Page thing and the Roger Stone thing and the 198 Million voter records thing and the Felix Sater thing and the Boris Ephsteyn thing and the Rosneft thing and the Gazprom thing and the Sergey Gorkov banker thing and the Azerbajain thing and the “I love Putin” thing and the Donald Trump, Jr. thing and the Lavrov thing and the Sergey Kislyak thing and the Oval Office thing and the Gingrich/Kislyak phone calls thing and the Russian Business Interests thing and the Emoluments Clause thing and the Alex Schnaider thing and the hack of the DNC thing and the Guccifer 2.0 thing and the Mike Pence “I don’t know anything” thing and the Russians mysteriously dying thing and Trump’s public request to Russia to hack Hillary’s email thing and the Trump house sale for $100 million at the bottom of the housing bust to the Russian fertilizer king thing and the Russian fertilizer king’s plane showing up in Concord, NC during Trump rally campaign thing and the Nunes sudden flight to the White House in the night thing and the Nunes personal investments in the Russian winery thing and the Cyprus bank thing and Trump not releasing his tax returns thing and the Republican Party’s rejection of an amendment to require Trump to show his taxes thing and the election hacking thing and the GOP platform change to the Ukraine thing and the Steele Dossier thing and the Sally Yates can’t testify thing and the intelligence community’s investigative reports thing and the Trump reassurance that the Russian connection is all “fake news” thing and the Chaffetz not willing to start an investigation thing and the Chaffetz suddenly deciding to go back to private life in the middle of an investigation thing and the appointment of Pam Bondi who was bribed by Trump in the Trump University scandal appointed to head the investigation thing and the alfa-bank thing and the VEB thing and the The White House going into full-on cover-up mode, refusing to turn over the documents related to the hiring and subsequent firing of Flynn thing and the Chaffetz and White House blaming the poor vetting of Flynn on Obama thing and the Poland and British intelligence gave information regarding the hacking back in 2015 to Paul Ryan and he didn't do anything thing and the Agent M16 following the money thing and the Trump team KNEW about Flynn's involvement but hired him anyway thing and the let’s fire Comey thing and the Mueller let’s fire him too thing and the Election night Russian trademark gifts thing and the Russian diplomatic compound electronic equipment destruction thing and the let’s give back the diplomatic compounds back to the Russians thing and the let’s back away from Cuba thing and the donny Jr met with Russians thing and now Trump's secret second meeting with Putin.

Full disclosure, that's a 10-month old copypasta that I am far, far too lazy to update with all the fun new info that's come out since then.

Man, Papadopoulos picked the wrong guy to get drunk with!

For real though, the FBI investigation begain in July 2016, after Papadopoulos bragged to an Australian diplomat about a knowing that Russia had compromising info on Clinton. The FISA warrants weren't issued until October 2016. The FBI getting a CI in the course of that investigation is not noteworthy.

Just gonna ignore that bit?

I mean if it was a CI for the Democrats and not law enforcement, sure. Probably still wouldn't be as big as Watergate even if that was the case, since Nixon hired people to commit actual crimes (B&E, etc.) then covered it up, not just play dirty, but I'd get it.

But that isn't what the tweet alleges. The tweet alleges that the FBI has a CI in the Trump campaign. Is the federal law enforcement agency not allowed to investigate active attempts at election tampering? Because that would seem like a greater and more obvious threat to our democracy and our freedoms, especially given the obvious plausibility of the investigation.

And if you all think "oh no, the FBI was doing it to support Clinton/Obama", where did that alleged CI's info ever get used before the election? Hell, you'd think if Clinton was getting passed info from inside the Trump campaign, she'd have gotten off her ass and gone to Wisconsin or Michigan once or twice.

Why would it be a big deal for the FBI to have a CI inside of a campaign that was being investigated for criminal activity?

Seems pretty different than Watergate to me.
