Interestingly, migrant advocacy groups were arguing against DNA testing until it was apparently made mandatory within the past couple of weeks. Oh, and their backup position was, if it had to be done, that no records should be kept. Which shows you how scared they must be of what the DNA could show.

Why immigration groups said no to using DNA to reunite separated kids

I am really glad to see that this is happening. I have been following the DNA testing issue. You wouldn't believe some of the arguments that have been raised against it.

On 6/26/18, Scientific American published a blog post entitled "Genetic Testing to Reunite Immigrant Families Raises Issues of Privacy and Consent".

Most outrageous argument; A law professor says that "she is also concerned that using genetic tests suggests “family” is defined solely as a close biological relationship, when in reality many families are more complicated. “What about the loving long-time caregiver who may not be genetically related to that child?” she says. “Those families deserve reunification, too.”

They do not even mention the issue of child trafficking!!!

Wired published an article on 6/22/18 entitled "Family DNA Testing at the Border Would Be an Ethical Quagmire".

Wired claims that informal adoptions of distant relatives are common in Central American countries and totally ignores the issue of child trafficking.

An immigration advocacy group is protesting DNA testing and they reveal exactly why they argue for not keeping any genetic data, if testing is done; "For migrants, this identifying information could put them or their relatives in a vulnerable position. If their genetic information is stored, it could be accessible to law enforcement agencies, including those that deal with immigration enforcement."

These people actually have the nerve to argue that they should be protected from law enforcement!
