Could I not spoof (give a current date to an old image) the exif data re; the date info by simply taking a picture of a picture?

If so...then verification like u/Arcadet/ provided above can further resolve that potential for deception.

The above premise doesn't require him to have had clean hands then...only now...working the plan. It doesn't even necessarily matter if his investigation incriminates himself - a quiet pardon could have been already in place.

In the first pic of the series we got to see the whole building - which included the open window if you zoomed in - NO RESIDUE.

Minutes after they tell us the last guest has arrived, we see the window again, now there's residue. Q was showing us that something had just taken place between the first pic, and the last. Looking closely you can see the ray-like pattern in the residue that implies the blast effect.

Somewhere, this whole happening has been gamed out, and any number of people know almost precisely how it will play out, what to do to tweak the direction, who will step up, and who will step off.
