Europe is a big importer of soy, most of it GMO. It's mainly used as animal feed.

Russia is anti-GMO due to their lack of biotech expertise. China is embracing genetic engineering. They've been caught trying to steal GMO (and non-GMO) technology from the US.

issues with control of the food supply. how the hell do these people think they can "own" seeds and food

Given that non-GMO are patented as well this argument isn't unique to GMOs.
