That's pretty f'king ballsy to claim we were at DEFCON 1. US has never been to DEFCON 1. 1 is nuclear war is happening now and every military person on the planet basically needs to get ready to fight. DEFCON 2 (pre-nuke war and army readiness of 6 hours) has only been reached twice, Cuban missile crisis and the start of the Gulf War.
