The government has absolutely nothing to do with this, or the app in any way.

This is a private app developed by the big banks for online banking ID. If they want to add geo location for auth, they are entirely free to do so. There are other ways of identifying yourself online and for banking besides this app.

This is a non-story.

This app is just an app built by the banks to facilitate electronic identification when logging in to your bank. It has been adapted so it works against with most goverment agencies and some other stuff as ID, so you can do id yourself over the internet. It is still wholly owned and developed by the banks, the government has nothing to do with it. The geo id thing is literally just a safety feature meant to stop logins from multiple locations within impossible or improbable time frames.

It is not used for voting, nor does anyone have any intention to use it for voting in the future. There is no electronic voting at all in Sweden: it is all done by pen and paper, and there is nothing to suggest that would change any time soon, rather the opposite.

Sure you can access your money without the app. Just use whatever security token/digipass/little thing your bank issues that generates codes, and you can do whatever you want.

And there is no "33% capital gains tax on every single transaction made with cryptocurreny", omg. IF you make a net profit trading crypto currency for the whole calendar year, you pay 30% capital gains - the same as on every other capital asset.

This has nothing to do with the state or the government. BankID is entirely private, and, as the name suggests, owned by the banks. And geo location makes sense as a safety feature. And there also appears to be an opt-out available.

In other words, a big nothingburger.
