Auto Attacks aren't the main focus, but rather arts, AAs are used to charge your arts and the main focus is more about creating flashy chains and combos using special attacks, and after a certain point the broken ass main character can be built around a unique build where he never has to use auto attacks at all because his arts charge up his other arts using the motherfucking broken ass Blade he gets at the start of the game.

The beginning of the game starts out with auto attacks only to educate you on the extensive art chain system, but after you get Tora and his waifubot about an hour into the game the combat wakes the fuck up and if you play like you did in Xenoblade 1 you'll get killed fast, since Art spam is the only way to heal and deal damage effectively, with auto attacks only being used to charge your shit, after it's charged you either get into position for a back attack and use your HP Potion steal skill to heal your party.

On top of that the main character's starting weapon encourages auto attack canceling, since his first attack comes out exceedingly fast compared to his 2nd and 3rd, so you have to pay attention and cancel his first attack by lightly flicking the movement stick, kind of like dash canceling in other games. The game doesn't tell you this, but you'll figure this out very quick when you face multiple targets anyway.

So the game only uses Auto Attacks as a method to charge the special ones and once you use a bunch of those you have a special one unique to the weapon you have equipped that can be charged up to 4 gauges worth which does mega damage and can be chained with your other party members.

So the game's combat starts slow, but quickly gains momentum and you have to pay attention or you'll die. It went from slow in the first game to very quick in the second.

The first hour or two is slower then the rest of the game, but once you pick up Tora after the first hour and his waifubot the game goes breakneck in regard to battle pace.

Also Tora's your first weird party member and you can really fuck the game hard with him because he can switch to any role from the menu and getting Blades is somewhat random.

D O N T F O R G E T M E

They kinda fucked up the dub, but added a dual track for japanese if you can't stand it. A lot of the actors in english are no names and are doing accents they're not used to, which leads to a lot of problems.

The japanese is much better since they're not trying to Woolsey it up with the weird Western Mythology shift they did for Xenoblade. (Seiryu is Azurda, Byakko is Dromarch, Suzaku is named Roc, etc)

Dromarch is a reference to Dormach, a celtic figure, Roc is a classic bird monster, and Azurda doesn't have a western equivilent since dragons were seen as shapeless monsters of sin to be slain instead of neutral gods, so instead he's named after the color of Seiryu in japanese myth, which is blue, and they did this to try to keep the general naming conventions together.

It's what happens when you try to appeal too hard. Instead of sticking to japanese myth they tried to rebrand everything with western equivilents, gave the characters "Awright blimy" faux scot accents and generally it's a mess. I don't mind it, but I could see how many could mind.

this version is more natural, and considering the state of the VA dub community here due to cancerous companies like Treehouse and lack of interest due to their practices alienating potential job searchers, this is going to be par for the course for at least half a decade.
