TF2V, what is it?

 

TF2V is a "pre-mannconomy" version of TF2 without the visual clutter and bloat. The only QoL additions is Pyro's airblast and the Engineer building carry. As well as additions of stock gamemodes such as Payload, KotH and Arena

Follow the guide, TL;DR

Development is focused first on bugfixes, If/when that's all done then focus on weapons can be started. However weapons needed to be coded from the ground up, so unless you want to start that for us then don't ask for something not on anyone's radar right now.

Here is how to install revemu on windows, i.e. make it no-steam. Technically this needs to be done once by the guy who releases TF2V for the next version, so that the game will be standalone and run out-of-the-box. But anyone can do it. I have shit upload speed.

 

What you need:

In case the link goes down, here is the original source: http://bir3yk.net/forum/topic_179/. Gonna need full package from 27.04.2016. Then an update from 20.01.2017, it's a single dll, goes into game root.

 

Start by placing tf2vintage folder in Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer, instead of sourcemods. Now Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer can be renamed to anything and placed anywhere, I will be calling it game root.

 

Optional: fire up the game to make sure everything works by creating hl2.exe shortcut and adding -game tf2vintage. See first pic. You won't need that shortcut after this, you can delete it later.

 

Extract revemu to game root. Second pic is how it should look like.

 

Shut down steam and fire TF2V.exe.

 

That's it, make sure everything works.

 

You can look through rev.ini.

 

But here are the most important things:

 

ProcName=hl2.exe -novid -noborder -game tf2vintage -steam -silent /help

 

Your startup parameters. I added -novid (skips into movies) and -noborder (borderless in windowed more, makes no difference in fullscreen). More details: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Command_Line_Options.

 

PlayerName=Anonymous

 

Self explanatory, Everything should work as expected. Only no-steam servers will show up in server browser. They also need to have no-steam in sv_tags, if I'm not mistaken.

That swiftwater match though felt really lopsided as fuck due to all the people with low ping being on one team and most of the other team had 100+ latency. I know know what it's like to be a BR on a US server

Now imagine the group goes down or something happens where the devs decide to relocate. Suddenly you're stuck waiting for an update, can't play in the meantime because LOL NO GROUP. This is more accurate of DRM than anything for a beta of a mod that now is more or less just TF2 on their terms.

They made an announcement in their goycord after they nuked it. Meaning they removed their original steam group, THEN alerted the smaller userbase that is their goycord that they removed their steam group for "reasons"

 

Also watching the feed they've fucked up authentication and some testers are reporting a inability to even launch the game.

 

All this, for a mod that hasn't seen a public update in years

Only thing I agree on is huntsman fixing, but it relies on the explosive hitbox and unless we fix that it's not gonna be a pretty fix. You've clearly not paid any attention to this mod at all if you think demoknight is getting in. Only reason demo is exception is because it drastically changed the class from a explosives class that worked with area defense and denial to a melee class.

 

Everything you hate is going to go in, It's up to server owners to ultimately either white list items or make it stock only or go whole hog.

It's staying in but at the moment it has no coding. I'd like to try and get it to look at a player's bullet hitbox to make things slightly more accurate in terms of aiming so it's not aiming at a massive rectangle like in retail

New changes to the filesystem, support for Linux and the start of the weapons testing phase.

 

Fixes:

 

Fixed an issue where the Medic's syringegun didn't properly shoot puffs of air when firing

Fixed sound issue where Linux had no sound when playing

Fixed error involving impact effects on dirt and metal

Fixed server caching on initial boot, drastically improving server load times

 

Additions:

 

Added cp_degrootkeep as a playable map

Added the following weapons: Direct Hit, Flare Gun, Gunboats, Loch N Load, Kritzkrieg

Various visual improvements (ie: explosions now have shockwaves)

 

Changes:

Changed the file packing system to favor procedural updating (no more 5GB patches for one update)

Unless you want to run the item server all weapons are unlocked from the word go. However server ops can set it to stock only so don't expect bach's server to have them enabled

That would require an item server to check against though. Keep em unlocked as is, we're miles away from that and honestly should be looking to fix shit up. As it stands atm LnL and DH don't behave like their retail counterparts did at the time
