Russia Claims Ukraine Standoff Is Over

The Russian government claimed on Tuesday that several military units have completed “scheduled drills” along border with Ukraine and will now return to their permanent bases, bringing their armor and artillery with them.

Russian officials taunted the Biden administration by claiming the redeployment “humiliated” Western war hysterics, while Ukrainian and NATO military officials said they did not see any immediate sign of Russian forces actually pulling back from the border.

Russia’s state-run Tass news agency quoted Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov’s claim that Russian troops were packing their gear and preparing to depart on Wednesday morning.

“As combat training measures are coming to a close, the troops, as is always the case, will conduct combined marches to their permanent garrisons. Units of the Southern and Western Military Districts that have accomplished their tasks have already begun loading personnel and equipment on railway and auto transport means and will today begin heading to their military garrisons,” Konashenkov stated.

The Defense Ministry statement implied that withdrawal could take some time because some of the units would be marching home on foot, in column formations, as part of their training.

Russia’s Southern Military District made a similar announcement on Tuesday that its troops were loading their “heavy tracked armor, such as tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled artillery guns” onto trains and preparing to return from Crimea to bases in Dagestan and North Ossetia.

“The units of the Southern Military District that have completed accomplishing their tasks as part of scheduled tactical exercises at combined arms practice ranges on the Crimean Peninsula have begun returning to their permanent bases. The personnel of battalion tactical groups have conducted marches to the areas of railway stations where operations to load combat equipment on special platforms have been organized,” the district command stated.

The Ministry of Defense said some troops and naval units are still “training” in the neighborhood of Ukraine, and would begin a fresh round of drills on Tuesday.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Western powers had been “humiliated and destroyed without a single shot fired” because their warnings of an imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine were ostensibly rendered foolish by the withdrawal announcement.

“15 February, 2022, will go down in history as the day Western war propaganda failed,” Zakharova declared.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday said the alleged conclusion of scheduled drills along the Ukrainian border countered “information terrorism” emanating from the United States and Europe.

“As for drills that Russia conducts on its own territory and in accordance with its own plans – let me specially emphasize that again – they begin, are implemented and concluded as planned. We have repeatedly stated that,” Lavrov said after meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau in Moscow.

“And this refers to the drills in the country’s west, similar measures in the Far East or the joint Russian-Belarusian drills that are also developing and proceeding in strict compliance with the approved schedule,” Lavrov continued.

“This is done irrespective of who thinks what, who and how is hysterical about this, who and how unleashes this genuine information terrorism and I am not afraid to use this word. The caravan keeps going,” he said.

Lesley Stahl Slammed for Unearthed Trump Interview After Durham Report

Lesley Stahl, a correspondent for CBS' "60 Minutes," is receiving backlash over an unearthed interview with Donald Trump in which she dismissed claims that the former president was spied on during his 2016 campaign.

The backlash comes after new allegations by special counsel John Durham in the inquiry into the origins of the Russia investigation gjzg support the former president's suspicions.

In the October 2020 interview, Trump declared that "the biggest scandal was when they spied on my campaign."

"There is no real evidence of that," Stahl responded.

"Of course there is. It's all over the place," Trump said as Stahl quickly shot back with a defiant "No."

The back and forth continued until Stahl reiterated once more that she disapproved of Trump's comments and "didn't know" if what he said was true.

"Then they went much further than that, and they got caught. And you will see that, Lesley, and you know that, but you just don't want-," Trump said before Stahl interjected.

"No," she said. "As a matter of fact, I don't know that."

"Lesley Stahl should apologize to Donald Trump," Trump's son Eric Trump said Sunday on Twitter.

"Her first response is 'there's no real evidence of that.' Incredible. I say all the time: Trump's greatest accomplishment is not any particular policy, but revealing the corruption at the heart of our institutions," said J.D. Vance, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Ohio.

"Ask yourself what else we're told today there's 'no evidence' for," a follow-up tweet read.

"Lesley Stahl tends to be surprised when her liberal contempt ruins her curiosity. She confessed in her memoir that she assumed [Ronald] Reagan was an uninvolved actor in his presidency. Then she saw all his paperwork," NewsBusters executive editor Tim Graham tweeted on Sunday.

US-Peru human trafficking operation leads to the recovery of 4 sex trafficking victims

LIMA, Peru – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) Human Trafficking Investigations Division conducted a human trafficking operation that led to the identification of four sex tracking victims and the arrest of the three individuals in the town of La Pampa, Madre de Dios, Peru.

“Human trafficking is a heinous crime that victimizes millions of innocent people around the world,” said HSI Lima Assistant Attaché Paul Salamon. “This successful operation shows the importance of international collaboration when it comes to disrupting criminal organizations. Our hope is that more victims come forward so that we can help remove them from harm’s way and put the perpetrators behind bars.”

On Feb. 5, the HSI office in Lima was informed by the PNP of a mother that filed a police report about an alleged trafficking event involving her daughter in the city of La Pampa, Madre de Dios, Peru. HSI responded and assisted PNP in interviewing the mother. The following day, the victim escaped and traveled to the city of Puerto Maldonado, where the she was later interviewed by HSI, PNP, and a Peruvian prosecutor. The victim provided additional information about other potential victims. Later that day, a second victim arrived at the prosecutor’s office after she learned that PNP and HSI were present and assisting.

On Feb. 7, PNP and the Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office, with participation from HSI, launched an operation leading to the rescue of two additional victims, as well as the arrest of Monica Baca Munoz, Guicela Baca Munoz and a third individual. Two of the individuals were arrested for Trafficking in Persons/Sexual Exploitation under Peruvian law.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/allison-gollust-woman-relationship-ex-cnn-chief-jeff-zucker-also-resig-rcna16408

Allison Gollust Resigns From CNN Following WarnerMedia Probe of Cuomo, Zucker

Allison Gollust, the chief marketing officer at CNN, has resigned from the network following corporate parent WarnerMedia’s investigation into “issues associated with Chris Cuomo and former Governor Andrew Cuomo,” according to a memo from Jason Kilar, the company’s CEO.

“Performed by a third-party law firm and led by a former federal judge, the investigation was comprehensive and definitive. It was commissioned in September and concluded this weekend, which now allows me to share additional information with you,” Kilar said. “Based on interviews of more than 40 individuals and a review of over 100,000 texts and emails, the investigation found violations of Company policies, including CNN’s News Standards and Practices, by Jeff Zucker, Allison Gollust, and Chris Cuomo.”

He added: “I realize this news is troubling, disappointing, and frankly, painful to read. These are valid feelings many of you have.”

In a statement, Gollust alleged WarnerMedia was trying to undermine her in public. “WarnerMedia’s statement tonight is an attempt to retaliate against me and change the media narrative in the wake of their disastrous handling of the last two weeks. It is deeply disappointing that after spending the past nine years defending and upholding CNN’s highest standards of journalistic integrity, I would be treated this way as I leave,” she said Tuesday evening. “But I do so with my head held high, knowing that I gave my heart and soul to working with the finest journalists in the world.”

Revelation of the details of the investigation comes just days after Zucker, formerly CNN’s president, resigned abruptly, citing an undisclosed relationship with Gollust, a longtime lieutenant who also worked with him at NBCUniversal. And it adds a new element to life inside CNN, where many top anchors and correspondents have come to Zucker’s defense, citing his support for them during a roiling nine-year tenure that cast the network in a more aggressive light.

Gollust has been an integral part of that era. She was heavily involved in the promotion of the network, which veered away at times from its centrist leanings, underscored by actor James Earl Jones intoning “This is CNN” in well-worn promos. Under Gollust, CNN adopted the mantra “Go there,” and it did indeed, The network, while not outwardly tilting partisan, lost favor in some Republican circles as it burnished its journalistic bona fides and relied on new promos that pledged to follow “Facts first” as a White House controlled by President Donald Trump often confused the national narrative with gaffes and outright misdirection. Gollust was so entwined with top CNN operations that, in some circles, she was thought to be a potential successor to Zucker.

The WarnerMedia investigation has derailed all that. When Zucker stepped down, he cited an investigation into fired anchor Chris Cuomo that revealed the CNN chief had not disclosed a consensual relationship with a colleague. And in doing so, he also revealed that Cuomo, a popular anchor who once commanded the 9 p.m. slot, was under scrutiny after being fired by Zucker last year. According to people familiar with the matter, Cuomo has been trying to get a severance payment, and has hired Bryan Freedman, a California entertainment attorney who previously represented Megyn Kelly in her exit discussions with NBCUniversal. There have been allegations raised in that process that Zucker and Gollust offered advice to former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, brother of the anchor, in discussions about having him appear on CNN.

Indeed, had CNN never allowed Chris Cuomo and Andrew Cuomo to come together on the former’s program at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, much of the current debacle might never have happened. Under Zucker, CNN waived rules preventing a journalist from covering family members and featured the former governor on his brother’s program on several nights. Later, when Andrew Cuomo was accused of sexual harassment by multiple women — claims he denied but that led him to vacate his gubernatorial seat — the ethical lapse became hard to defend. And it became even more difficult to do so after the Washington Post reported that the younger Cuomo had been lending help to his brother’s staff as he sought to push back on those claims.

The findings in the probe create new drama at an operation in the midst of several critical business initiatives CNN is said to be weeks away from the launch of a new subscription-based streaming service, CNN Plus, and has recruited top journalists and personalities in the process. Audie Cornish. Chris Wallace, Kasie Hunt, Eva Longoria, Jemele Hill and Cari Champion are among new anchors and hosts who have come on board in recent weeks, while CNN anchors and correspondents like Don Lemon, Poppy Harlow and Wolf Blitzer have been given new assignments for the broadband outlet.

WarnerMedia is slated to be spun off by its current owner, AT&T, and to be acquired by Discovery, a media company that specializes in non-fiction programming where executives may seek to take CNN on a different path than its former chief. One thing is clear: With Zucker out and Gollust departing, CNN is starting a new chapter in a story that has been ongoing since 1980, when its entrepreneur founder, Ted Turner, could only dream of how many people might be sparring over his creation.

Ukraine cyberattack: Russia blamed for ‘largest’ disruption of its kind in country’s history

Ukrainian officials investigating Tuesday’s cyberattacks that brought down websites belonging to its Ministry of Defense, army and popular banks are now calling the incident the "largest" of its kind in the history of the country – and suspect Russia is the culprit.

The distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks come as U.S. and NATO continue to cast doubt on Russian claims that some of its 150,000 troops amassed along its border with Ukraine are heading back to their permanent bases.

"Russia has engaged in cyberattacks and electronic warfare in terms of a precursor to physical and kinetic activity," Frank Cilluffo, the director of the McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security at Auburn University, told Fox News Digital on Wednesday, citing past cyberattacks in Georgia and Ukraine’s Crimea region.

CHINA SAYS US IS ‘PLAYING UP’ RUSSIA THREAT TO UKRAINE

"A DDoS attack can be pretty effective if utilized in support of other means. It’s not about the attack itself, but if you are able to disrupt communications of some sort, and then you have ulterior motives, then clearly it can be effective," he added. "And Russia did do this to Estonia in the past, massive DDoS attacks on the banking sector and the Estonian government."

Tuesday’s cyberattacks targeted at least 10 Ukrainian websites and customers at the state-owned Privatbank and Sberbank reported issues with online payments and the banks’ apps, according to the Associated Press.

"Yesterday, on February 15, the largest DDoS attack in the history of Ukraine was carried out on government websites, on the banking sector," Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov was quoted by Reuters as saying.

"This attack is unprecedented, it was prepared in advance," he reportedly continued, mentioning how the attacks – designed to flood websites with traffic and shut them down – involved IP addresses from Russia, China, Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic. "And the key goal of this attack is destabilization, it is to sow panic, to do everything so that a certain chaos appears in our country."

llya Vityuk, who leads the cybersecurity department of Ukraine’s state security service said Wednesday that "the only country that is interested in such… attacks on our state, especially against the backdrop of massive panic about a possible military invasion, the only country that is interested is the Russian Federation," Reuters also reported.

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/badgered-her-sex-chris-cuomo-alleged-sexual-assault-factored-firing

"Badgered Her For Sex": Chris Cuomo Alleged Sexual Assault Factored Into Firing

While Chris Cuomo's ouster from CNN was originally pinned on unethical interactions with his brother - the embattled former Governor of NY, the disgraced anchor was fired in part over a resurfaced allegation that he sexually assaulted a young female staffer when he worked at ABC News in 2011, according to the New York Times.

24 hours after Cuomo was suspended for helping his brother fight sexual harassment charges, a letter arrived at CNN from an attorney representing a woman who had worked with Cuomo over a decade ago. She said claimed Cuomo sexually assaulted her - and then tried to silence her during the #MeToo movement by arranging a flattering CNN segment about her employer at the time.

The day after the letter was sent, Cuomo was fired by CNN boss Jeff Zucker - which Cuomo insists was done without due process.

The letter described it as an “abuse of power at CNN to attempt to silence my client.”

While a spokesman for Mr. Cuomo denied the allegations in the letter, it set in motion a chain of events that would quickly upend one of the world’s most powerful news networks.

By week’s end, Mr. Zucker had fired Mr. Cuomo, telling him that a drumbeat of scandals had become “too much for us.” -NYT

According to Cuomo's accuser, she was invited to lunch in his office one day in 2011 to discuss career advice. When she arrived, there was no food - and Cuomo instead badgered her for sex.

After she declined, he assaulted her and she ran out of the room.

The Times interviewed five of the woman's friends and former colleagues who say she told them about the unwelcome sexual requests - but the accuser has acknowledged that only in the past year did she begin to tell people about the assault "because it was private and painful."

Then, during the height of the #MeToo movement "after TV personalities like Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer were felled by misconduct allegations," Cuomo reached out to the woman "seemingly out of the blue" to propose airing a CNN segment about the company where she worked doing public relations - which CNN ran despite her attempt to avoid any contact with her alleged abuser.

"After years without any substantive communication from Mr. Cuomo whatsoever, Ms. Doe suspected he was concerned about her coming forward publicly with her allegations and wanted to use the proposed segment as an opportunity to ‘test the waters’ and discourage her from going on the record about his sexual misconduct," wrote attorney Debra S. Katz, a prominent sexual harassment lawyer.

The Times reviewed Mr. Cuomo’s messages to the woman and the segment and spoke with her boss at the time. Her boss said that after the segment aired, the woman shared some of the details of the encounter and Mr. Cuomo’s subsequent outreach.

Ms. Katz said the woman, who has been “deeply traumatized,” doesn’t want to become “a pawn in an internecine war between Zucker, Chris Cuomo and CNN” and won’t be saying anything further. She “deserves and requests privacy,” Ms. Katz said. -NYT

Cuomo spokesman Steven Goldberg said the allegations in Katz's letter "are false. He was never asked about the allegations prior to being terminated or given an opportunity to respond."

The day after his ouster, Cuomo hired Hollywood lawyer Bryan Freedman - who's known for his tough negotiating tactics and securing multimillion-dollar settlements for TV stars. Freedman sent a demand letter to the network requiring them to preserve all documents related to any dealings between any CNN employees and anyone in the governor's office - implying that Cuomo's defense would revolve around other network executives acting similarly in their communications with the governor.

Zucker spokeswoman Risa Heller said the now-fired CEO only spoke to the governor about appearing on the network, adding "He never gave Andrew Cuomo advice."

House Education and Labor Committee ranking member Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., told Fox News Digital Wednesday that there is "a lot of blood in the political waters, and Democrats are no longer running for the hills – they’re sprinting."

"You don’t need to try and read the tea leaves to know what’s happening across the country; it’s abundantly clear to everyone," Foxx said. "Democrats are in trouble politically because they’ve ignored parents. The San Francisco school board recall election is another loss for Democrats. And it certainly won’t be the only one we hear about in the coming days, weeks and months.

"A red wave is coming, and it will be the coup de grace to the entire Democrat agenda," Foxx added.

"Republicans are committed to standing up for parents and students," House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik of New York told Fox News Digital Wednesday. "This is a winning message that resonates with families across the country, even in far left San Francisco.

"The recall of three members of the San Francisco school board, who have put their radical leftist priorities over prioritizing students, should serve as a warning that families have had enough of far left control over classrooms."

Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., told Fox News Digital in an email statement that the recall election is the latest instance of parents pushing back on the progressive left.

"From Northeast Indiana to Nancy Pelosi's backyard in San Francisco, we are seeing parents across the nation reject the radical left's support of school closures and wokeness in the classroom," Banks, a House Education and Labor Committee member alongside Stefanik, said on Wednesday.

"This should be a major wake-up call for Democrats, but it won't be," Banks added. "Just as I wrote in a memo to my colleagues following Glenn Youngkin's impressive victory last fall, Republicans have an obligation to step up and be a voice of reason for frustrated parents of all political backgrounds."

Banks released a memo last year, addressing the GOP’s opportunity to lean into the culture wars amid conversations about critical race theory.

"Lean into the culture war. Because the backlash against critical race theory is real," Banks wrote. "We are beginning to see an organic movement from parents across the country in places like Loudon County, Virginia; Pelham, New York; South Lake, Texas; and Bloomington, Illinois, who are fed up with the lessons their kids are being taught. As House conservatives, we should be sending a signal to these concerned parents: We have your back."

Rep. Julia Letlow, R-La., Foxx's fellow member of the House Education and Labor Committee, told Fox News Digital that everywhere "from Virginia to San Francisco, parents have clearly sent the message that they want a seat at the table when it comes to their child’s education.

"As Republicans, we’re fighting to ensure that families are never pushed out of the learning process, because at the end of the day, these are our children, not the government’s," Letlow added.

"Far left school boards are robbing America’s children of a quality education," Tennessee Republican Rep. Tim Burchett told Fox News Digital. "Woke hysteria in schools in San Francisco and across the country needs to end. It’s time parents take back their schools."

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., who also sits on the House Education and Labor Committee, told Fox News Digital that "fed-up parents kicked off the 2022 election cycle" in San Francisco "by firing school board members who prioritized school closures, teachers’ unions, and their own political agendas over educating children."

"I expect voters nationwide to make a similar judgment in November against politicians who have fought to keep schools closed and children masked," Comer continued.

Republican political organizations also weighed in on the red wave rumblings following the San Francisco recall election with Republican National Committee (RNC) spokesman Nathan Brand saying from "Virginia to San Francisco, parents are making their voices heard."

"Democrats are losing as they put special interests, woke garbage, school closures and forced masking ahead of students," Brand continued. "Republicans know parents’ voices matter in their children’s education."

"Last night’s decisive results in the San Francisco school board election prove that Asian American families reject the radical Democrat agenda of school closures, forced masking and renaming schools to appease woke activists," Nainoa Johsens, RNC Director of Asian Pacific American Media, said in a statement.

"Just like in Virginia’s gubernatorial election, Asian parents in San Francisco stood up to Democrat politicians who put radical ideology and scoring political points ahead of their kids. Even in deep blue San Francisco, Democrats are proving they are out of touch."

Brand also pointed to RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel’s recent tweet saying the recall election results "prove parents reject the Democrat agenda of school closures, forced masking, and renaming schools to appease far-left activists."

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Berg warned Democrats that the "midterms are coming" and that "Democrats have a choice: retire or lose."

The red wave predictions come after three San Francisco school board members were recalled from their posts.

Jonathan Butcher, the Heritage Foundation's Will Skillman Fellow in Education, told Fox News Digital that the recall is part of a "larger national trend."

"San Francisco’s school board has made a number of radical decisions, including the erasure of Abraham Lincoln from the name of a school. Voters spoke loud and clear that this does not represent their community," Butcher said. "This recall is part of a national trend. Last year, by June, concerned parents and voters around the U.S. had started more than twice the annual average number of school board recalls.

"So long as interest groups and policymakers dismiss parents or treat them as a threat, parents and voters (often one and the same) will respond by acting in the best interests of their children."

"Parents have the receipts for the anti-science and anti-kid crowd, and they are just getting started," added N2 America senior advisor and veteran Virginia GOP strategist Zack Roday. "Teacher union controlled politicians will continue to be held accountable by the long memory of fed up parents,"

Critics, including San Francisco Mayor London Breed, argued the school board members — President Gabriela López, Vice President Faauuga Moliga and Commissioner Alison Collins — pushed progressive politics rather than act in the best interest of children during the pandemic, and voters agreed, according to the San Francisco Department of Elections.

In San Francisco, one of the country's most liberal cities, Democrats were split over the recall effort. Fox News polling also revealed the high level of parental concern over what is being taught in schools.

The mayor, who is now responsible for appointing new board members to fill the vacancies until another election in November, also praised the parents who initiated the effort.
