Drea Humphrey speaks to Dr. Angelique Coatzee, the national chair of the South African Medical Association and the doctor who first discovered the Omicron variant, about the symptoms she's seen from this strain of COVID-19.

There is a new COVID-19 variant in town called Omicron, but what does that actually mean in terms of risk if you catch it? You wouldn’t know it from many mainstream media headlines, but so far it’s symptoms appear to be extremity mild, regardless of one's vaccination status.

Dr. Angelique Coetzee, the national chair of the South African Medical Association, was the first to discover a patient who had contracted this variant. Since then Coetzee has observed symptoms and responses to treatment for a cluster of patients who have also contracted the virus as well.

“Normally [with the Delta Variant] you will see the oxygen levels are not always where they are suppose to be, sometimes low, and in this case, we so far haven’t had any patients with oxygen levels that’s low,” said Coetzee when I sat down to interview her.

Coetzee says that common symptoms of the Omicron variant include body aches and headaches, and that for now, they are fairly sure they can handle patients who contract it outside of the hospital.

Media Group Including CNN, ABC, NYT and WaPo File Legal Brief JOINING Steve Bannon’s Bid to Unseal Documents from DOJ in Contempt of Congress Case

The Department of Justice on Monday refused Steve Bannon’s request for transparency and his right to unseal documents from the DOJ regarding the sham J-6 Committee investigation.

The DOJ called this an attempt by Steve Bannon to “try the case in the media” by making all documents and material public so the American people can be informed and make up their own mind on the merits of the case. But the regime does not want this. After all, how is the regime supposed to control the narrative if the truth gets out?

Steve Bannon is charged with contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with Liz Cheney’s garbage Jan. 6 Committee.

But on Tuesday several major US media outlets filed a legal brief in support of Bannon and his attempts to be transparent with the American public.

A coalition of major media companies has filed a legal brief in support of former Trump chief White House strategist Steven Bannon as he fights a proposed protective order in court that would keep him from publicizing Jan. 6th documents and information.

The media group – which includes CNN, ABC, NBC, plus the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the parent company of the Wall Street Journal – filed a motion to intervene as Bannon’s fights the government’s proposed order as part of his contempt of Congress case.

The order would severely limit what Bannon can do with the trove of information that the feds must share as part of the normal discovery process and have already begun handing over. According to a prior government filing, this includes more than 1,000 pages of witness testimony, grand jury material, and even emails from staff for the House Jan. 6th Committee investigating the Capitol riot.

The press group argues that the government’s proposed order would violate the First Amendment – and takes on the government’s own contention that allowing Bannon to use the materials would result in pretrial publicity that could taint the jury pool.

Fully Vaccinated Patients Show Mild Symptoms after Omicron Infection in Botswana — Non-Vaccinated Show No Symptoms at All

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that the South African Medical Association debunked the hysteria over the Omicron COVID variant.

According to Angelique Coetzee, the chairwoman of the South African Medical Association who first raised the alarm of the new COVID variant, says the new variant known as the ‘Omicron’ causes “unusual but mild symptoms.”

On Monday, the Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness testified during a parliament hearing that not one of the Omicron variant cases identified needs oxygen support and hospitalization.

According to Assistant Minister Sethomo Lelatisitswe, Botswana has still 15 ‘Omicron’ variant cases, 3 of the patients showed mild symptoms while the rest did not. Of those 15 cases, 11 were vaccinated, while those 4 unvaccinated did not show symptoms at all, Lelatisitswe said.

The country recorded 19 cases of ‘Omicron’ variants in total. Four of those cases were foreign nationals on a diplomatic mission and left the country after their diagnosis.

Here is an excerpt of the assistant minister’s statement from the parliament meeting:

Mr Speaker, as part of their routine genomic surveillance of SARS-COV-2, our local scientists detected this variant on four foreign nationals who had visited Botswana on a diplomatic mission earlier this month. At the conclusion of their mission in Botswana, the quartet tested positive for COVID-19 after conducting their pre-travel tests. Their COVID-19 variant was confirmed as B 1. 1. 529 on 24 November 2021, and has now been renamed Omicron.

Mr Speaker, following this development, contact tracing was immediately conducted and all contacts tested negative for the COVID-19. Further assessments and analysis of other positive COVID-19 samples have up to now produced 15 more cases of the new Omicron variant. This means that to date Botswana has recorded a total of 19 cases of the new variant. We continue to expand contact tracing to ensure that we do not leave any potential case undetected.

Mr Speaker, fourteen (14) of the nineteen (19) cases were reported in the Greater Gaborone DHMT area, four (4) are from the Serowe/Palapye DHMT area, while Kgatleng DHMT reported one (1) case. All cases reported by the Serowe/Palapye DHMT are truck drivers who were detected at a point of entry (Martins Drift), as part of COVID-19 screening strategy for arrivals. The case reported by Kgatleng DHMT was of an individual who resides in South Africa and had visited his family in Botswana, and tested as pre-travel test requirement. Given this short characterization, it appears to us that most of the 19 cases so far detected in Botswana are imported cases.

According to the latest update from the local news Mmgi, “the country’s COVID-19 cases however remain low with an update from the government this evening showing 602 active cases as at November 26. The country has thus far fully vaccinated 33.3 percent of adults, with 60.2 percent having received their first dose.”
