"The Ghislaine Remixes" is a collection of audio/visual artworks I've started creating out of raw content that I recorded of Ghislaine Maxwell back in February 2014. At that time, I was working on another short promotional video - that one was for Ghislaine's ocean-focused non-profit the TerraMar Project.

 

As I state in this piece, I was convinced at the time that Ghislaine was a real environmental activist. (She had the UN fooled too, you might remember).

 

Having read and watched and heard all the testimonials of all the various victims and former friends and associates of Ghislaine, it's been painful for me to realize how I was duped by this self-serving predator. After watching documentaries about her life and interviewed about my own brief experiences with Ghislaine, I view her as very complex and disturbing character - cunning, desperate, damaged, ruthless and tragic, all at once.

 

I've tried to incorporate these elements into this work. I hope you enjoy it.

''Stilettos on the Sand (Complete Trilogy)''

This 3-part piece of video art expresses the process I went through in my work with Ghislaine Maxwell.

 

Part 1 "The Smell of the Ocean Spray" is a simple black and white shot of Ghislaine walking on the beach, which she did to give me some b-roll for the short promo video I made for her TerraMar Project in 2014. The voice-over is Ghislaine expressing her professed love for the ocean. Because she oddly showed up for this shoot in stiletto heels, which ended up looking pretty ridiculous, this footage was never used in the promo spot.

 

Part 2 "A Sea Change for Ghislaine" is a psychedelic, surf-inspired instrumental piece I composed in response to learning about Ghilslaine's horrifying abuse of girls and young women. For me it represents not just a change in my perception of her, but also the massive change Ghislaine has undergone since the world learned of her complicity and participation in Jeffrey Epstein's crimes. (Also a slogan for her TerraMar Project was "Sea Hope, Sea Change, Sea Future.")

 

Part 3 "I Love the Boats" is the most complex and nuanced segment of this work. In this one I've added in lots of elements that have nothing to do with the original content I produced when making the TerraMar Promo. There are ocean predators, teenage girls, sea birds, jets and boats woven into the fabric of the story, along with a haunting photo of a boat called The Lady Ghislaine. Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine's father, named this boat after her, a solid confirmation of her reputation as his favorite child. He mysteriously died by falling off that boat, alone. No one knows exactly how that happened, but Ghislaine's family says she is the only one of them who believes that he was murdered. What I find extremely strange is that Ghislaine, who is said to have deeply loved her father, decided to create a nonprofit to protect the ocean. The ocean that took her father away.

 

Here are the words used in this video - first as I recorded them with Ghislaine and then the way I remixed them to tell a story that is to me more true:

All audio & video recordings of Ghislaine Maxwell used to make this song are the real deal. 100% authentic. I met her very briefly in 2014 at an eco-conference where she was a featured speaker. Sadly, I actually believed at the time that Ghislaine launched her TerraMar Project to protect our oceans, which are in fact in real trouble. As a result, I unwittingly helped this predator with her nonprofit, motivated by my love of the natural world & concern for future generations. I shot and edited a 45-sec promo to encourage people to sign her "Ocean Pledge." As least I didn't raise any money for her - or take any, for that matter.

 

Now that Ghislaine's truly ugly "dirty laundry" has surfaced, I've gone back to my recordings and remixed them to express my feelings about the whole thing. The words in this song actually did come out of her mouth - just not in this order:
