Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance will no longer be lit up in rainbow colours, after staff received a tirade of hateful abuse.

 

The solemn shrine, a striking symbol honouring the sacrifice of everyone who has served, was set to be bathed in rainbow light as a celebration of LGBTIQ+ personnel in the armed forces.

 

But plans for the colourful display on Sunday have now been cancelled after staff received "sustained abuse and threats".

 

"If we'd served they would have been celebrating us, instead they're condemning us because of our sexuality," Shrine CEO Dean Lee told 9News in a statement.

 

"We have seen something of what members of the LGBTIQ+ community experience every day. It is hateful.

 

"In the interests of minimising harm, we have given this matter careful consideration."

 

Yvonne Sillett from the Discharged LGBTQIA+ Veterans Association said she was "shattered" by the decision.

 

"It meant so much to me as a gay veteran but I think for the whole community, it's something which no war memorial has ever done," she told 9News.

 

The colourful display would have coincided with a special last post service at dusk and the opening of a new exhibit Defending with Pride, which includes stories from past members like Yvonne Sillet.

Google says it will delete location history for visits to abortion clinics after overturning of Roe v. Wade

 

Google said late Friday that it will work to quickly delete location history for people going to abortion sites and other medical sites following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade last week.

 

“Today, we’re announcing that if our systems identify that someone has visited one of these places, we will delete these entries from Location History soon after they visit,” wrote Jen Fitzpatrick, Google’s senior vice president of core systems and experiences, in a blog post.

 

Fitzpatrick noted that visits to places like counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics and fertility centers “can be particularly personal.” Google parent Alphabet owns highly popular devices and data services, including Android, Fitbit, Search and Google Maps. That’s become a greater concern since the Supreme Court ruling, because of uncertainty surrounding whether sensitive data could be used to target what is now potentially criminal activity.

 

Google’s post says, “Fitbit users who have chosen to track their menstrual cycles in the app can currently delete menstruation logs one at a time, and we will be rolling out updates that let users delete multiple logs at once.”

Johnson: Ukrainians who come to UK illegally could be sent to Rwanda

 

In an escalation of his government's plans to deport those crossing into the UK to seek sanctuary, PM Boris Johnson has said that Ukrainian refugees entering the UK without authorization may be deported to Rwanda.

 

Johnson defended, on Thursday, his contentious deal to deport migrants to Rwanda, urging critics to "keep an open mind."

 

It is worth noting that the London-Kigali scheme, which involves Britain deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda thousands of miles away, has sparked outrage.

 

The migrant arrangement has been strongly condemned by rights groups, church leaders, and the United Nations, not to mention that it threatens to overshadow this week's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

 

One of the most outspoken opponents is the British heir to the throne, Prince Charles, who has been quoted in the British media as calling it "appalling".

 

Johnson had previously said the prospect of Ukrainian refugees being sent to Rwanda was "simply not going to happen."

 

However, when asked ahead of the CHOGM meeting on whether Ukrainians arriving to the UK by boat may be deported to East Africa, he said: “The only circumstances in which people will be sent to Rwanda would be if they come to the UK illegally," adding moments later "if you come here illegally, you’re undermining all those who come here legally. And it’s crazy. So I’m afraid the answer is I suppose, yes, in theory that could happen. But I think it’s very unlikely.”

 

UK and Ukrainian refugees

 

Critics of the UK government's response to the war have said that the UK in fact takes in fewer Ukrainians per capita than most of Europe.

 

“In stark contrast to the British public who have opened their doors to welcome Ukrainians in desperate search of safety, our prime minister has confirmed that the government is intent on treating them as human cargo to be transported from the UK to Rwanda," Enver Solomon, the chief executive of the Refugee Council said regarding Johnson's statements.

 

The first flight carrying migrants was scheduled for June 14, following the rejection of a lawsuit filed by human rights activists seeking to halt the government's decision to send illegal migrants to Rwanda. According to the court's statement, the flight was canceled after the ECHR ruled that an Iraqi migrant involved might face "a real risk of irreversible harm."

 

Rwanda's government announced that it has already begun spending the 120 million pound downpayment given by the UK on the asylum scheme, as the government's spokesperson said that part of it was spent to prepare accommodations to receive the first batch of migrants that was supposed to arrive on the 14th.

 

Meanwhile, to counter the EHCR's decision, Britain began legislating for a new bill of rights on Wednesday, which would state unequivocally that Britain's Supreme Court, which approved the Rwanda flights, had legal supremacy and that ECHR judgments did not necessarily have to be followed by British courts.

 

According to the Ministry of Justice, it would certify that injunctions ordered by the ECHR under Rule 39, which halted the Rwandan flight, were not binding.

 

Stephanie Boyce, president of the Law Society of England and Wales, said it would create an acceptable class of human rights violations, while Sacha Deshmukh, Chief Executive of Amnesty International UK, said it was unsurprising that politicians held accountable by human rights laws wanted them removed.

 

"This is not about tinkering with rights. It's about removing them," Deshmukh said.

Whilst on the face of it, these things may seem like unfortunate events occurring at random, the truth is they are actually all occurring by design, and official government reports alongside historical data prove it.

Well, reports suggest it’s all to do with meeting ‘zero carbon targets’. But that is another charade in itself, so the real reason has something to do with advancing the fourth industrial revolution, where you will own nothing and apparently be happy about it. An agenda that Klaus Schwab, the founder of the World Economic Forum likes to call ‘The Great Reset’.

 

Over the Jubilee bank holiday, which coincided with many schools’ half-term breaks, 750 flights leaving the UK were cancelled, according to aviation data firm Cirium. Meanwhile, around 466 return flights were axed.

 

Although cancellations made up a small percentage of total flights, many passengers were only informed at short notice and faced long queues to check in bags and get through security.

 

Meanwhile, the mainstream media are advertising the fact workers at British Airways are voting on whether to walk out over pay, while wage talks between Ryanair and cabin crew unions in Europe appear to have reached an impasse.

 

All of this is heightening people’s anxiety about whether these problems will continue into the summer season, and it is putting people off travelling abroad.

 

For example, Jess Baker, who spoke to BBC News, says that she has been put off travelling abroad this summer after a recent “nightmare” 18-hour journey home from Iceland.

 

She, her husband Shaun and their two children had their EasyJet flight into Luton cancelled recently.

 

They were given the option to travel home three days later but needed to get back sooner so paid £1,000 to fly into Glasgow with Icelandair. They shelled out an additional £340 to hire a car to drive down to Luton to collect their own vehicle.

 

“It’s been an absolute nightmare,” says Ms Baker. “We quickly decided that we’ll go camping here instead. It’s not worth the hassle all over again.”

 

Plenty of others are also thinking the same, with Sykes Holiday Cottages reporting a 22% rise in bookings over the past two weeks.

 

Chief executive Graham Donoghue says it is “at least in part due to widespread reports of overseas travel disruption. Travellers simply don’t want to have to tackle airports and take the risk that their family holidays could be cancelled”.

Five people have claimed they were victims of rape or attempted rape during their time working in the NSW Parliament in the past five years.

 

The shocking claims by three men and two women were revealed with the publication of a workplace behaviour review on Friday.

 

The alleged victims, who have not been named, submitted their allegations in an anonymous survey for a review conducted by sex discrimination commissioner Elizabeth Broderick.

 

It is not clear how many of the five claims related to rape or attempted rape. The alleged perpetrators have also not been named.

 

The alleged victims were all under 55 and most were between 25 and 34.

 

More than a third of the sexual assault claims that workers said they had heard of happened in NSW's Parliament House, with others occurring after work drinks.

 

The independent review was commissioned last year after several complaints were raised about the abuse of staff.

Speaking to reporters on Friday morning, Premier Dominic Perrottet vowed to weed out MPs who behave inappropriately and to make parliament safe.

 

'I have read the report. It is sobering, confronting and unacceptable,' he said.

 

'Every workplace across our state should be free from harassment, sexual harassment and sexual assault but this is not the case in the New South Wales Parliament.
