Former NYT editor sought Schumer's permission to publish a Republican op-ed: Bari Weiss

Former New York Times editor Bari Weiss revealed on her podcast that an editor at the publication wanted then-Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's approval to publish an op-ed from Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott on police reform in 2020.

 

Weiss resigned from the outlet in July 2020 asserting that the paper had become too intolerant of dissenting views.

 

In an interview with Scott on her podcast, "Honestly with Bari Weiss," Weiss revealed the behind the scenes drama that surrounded Scott's submission at the height of the protests over the death of George Floyd.

 

The South Carolina Republican had sought to publicize the Justice Act, an ultimately unsuccessful police reform plan, with an op-ed. Weiss told him that the NYT staff discussed the submission at length.

 

“Well, here’s what happened,” Weiss said, per the New York Post. “And this is the part I’m not sure if you know. There was a discussion about the piece and whether or not we should run it.”

 

The former NYT editor then recounted a discussion between a senior editor and a more junior one in which the senior editor questioned Republican concern for minority rights.

 

"I think Tim Scott cares about minority rights," the junior editor said, per Weiss.

 

“And then, and here’s the pretty shocking part," she continued. "The more senior colleague said, ‘Let’s check with Sen. Schumer before we run it.'" The junior editor refused to do so over ethics concerns, Weiss concluded, and the column never ran.

Boston Children's Hospital touted "gender-affirming hysterectomies" for young girls in a video unearthed by the popular Libs of TikTok account before scrubbing from YouTube.

 

The video featured Dr. Frances Grimstad of Boston Children’s Division of Gynecology explaining the different types of hysterectomies a girl could undergo.

 

“A gender-affirming hysterectomy is very similar to most hysterectomies that occur,” says Grimstad. “A hysterectomy itself is the removal of the uterus, the cervix — which is the opening of the uterus — and the fallopian tubes, which are attached to the sides of the uterus.”

 

Grimstad identified herself as an advocate of trans reproductive health in her Twitter biography, which also includes her preferred pronouns as she and her.

The Protocols were written at the start of antisemitism in Russia, with thousands of Jews fleeing the country and the start of the pogroms, Jewish concentration camps. Setting the scene for antisemitism was Frederick Millingen’s The Conquest of the World by Jews and Hippolytus Lutostansky’s Jews and the Talmud. Both works claimed that the Jews wanted to divide Russia up for themselves. Jews were also blamed for the loss of the Russo-Japanese war and the revolution of 1905.

 

A member of the Czarist secret police, Professor Serge A Milus, is reported to have edited and initially published the protocols. The Protocols first appeared in a Russian newspaper, Znamya, in 1903. It was published originally in 1905 in a book titled The Great in the Small: The Coming of the Anti-Christ and the Rule of Satan on Earth. This was written by Serge A Nilus. Most agree that the protocols were fabricated sometime between 1897 and 1899 under Pyotr Rachovsky, head of the Russian secret police.

 

It is generally accepted the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion was a forgery. In 1921 the London Times produced conclusive proof that the Protocols were a forgery, describing the Protocols as a “clumsy forgery”. Most of the passages of the Protocols have been taken from a French political satire that never mentioned Jews – Maurice Joly’s Dialogue in Hell Between Machiavelli and Montesquieu (1864). The phrasing between the two texts is almost identical.

 

The protocols would come to play a significant part in the Jewish Holocaust. They had a serious influence on Adolf Hitler who mentioned them frequently in Mein Kampf. The Nazi party published 23 editions of the Protocols before the start of World War II.

 

In 1935 a Swiss court declared the Protocols as “ridiculous nonsense” and “obvious forgeries”. The US Senate issued a report in 1964 that the Protocols were fabricated. However even while the Protocols were ridiculed by many, it also had quite a following. In 1974 it was published in India under the title International Conspiracy Against Indians. In 2004 the Protocols were published in Japan. In 2005 an edition of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, authorized by the Syrian Ministry of Information, claims that the Elders of Zion coordinated September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.

 

It is worth noting that the Bible is only mentioned once in the Protocols and that the Old Testament is quoted in Latin. The Protocols also claim that the Jewish elites had a hand in the French revolutions. However, this is cited as evidence largely discrediting the work of the protocols. At the time of the French revolution, there were only a handful of Jews who were, by and large, the subjects of antisemitism. However, this can also be construed in the opposite light, that there was antisemitic behavior followed by unrest and upheaval, meaning that the antisemitism was proven correct.

 

Despite the declaration that the Protocols are a forgery, there are still many followers, described as Neo-Nazi, White Supremacists and Holocaust deniers. Books based on the Holocaust are disseminated worldwide and has a surprising following in Japan, where there are little Jews. The Arab and Islamic world actively teach the protocols to children. It is often used to justify terrorism against Israeli citizens. There is no denying that it is a forgery, however a very accurate one.

The owner said he locked the door after the agents walked out, leaving him to “digest the encounter.”

 

“Was I being paranoid, or had what the agent just told me been a direct threat, or at best a thinly veiled one?” he writes.

 

Issac was left with the “laptop from hell” after President Biden’s son abandoned it at his shop in April 2019.

 

Eight months after giving the laptop’s hard drive to the FBI, the shop owner alerted then-President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani who, in turn, provided a copy to The Post.

Five people have claimed they were victims of rape or attempted rape during their time working in the NSW Parliament in the past five years.

 

The shocking claims by three men and two women were revealed with the publication of a workplace behaviour review on Friday.

 

The alleged victims, who have not been named, submitted their allegations in an anonymous survey for a review conducted by sex discrimination commissioner Elizabeth Broderick.

 

It is not clear how many of the five claims related to rape or attempted rape. The alleged perpetrators have also not been named.

 

The alleged victims were all under 55 and most were between 25 and 34.

 

More than a third of the sexual assault claims that workers said they had heard of happened in NSW's Parliament House, with others occurring after work drinks.

 

The independent review was commissioned last year after several complaints were raised about the abuse of staff.

Van Hise sent to MELTZ and Asch photographs of these family members, and the approximate location of their residence. MELTZ engaged in detailed discussions about kidnapping and brutalizing the proposed victims, and ultimately assisted Van Hise and Asch in planning a kidnapping, rape, and murder. The co-conspirators ceased active planning of the kidnapping when the FBI arrested New York City Police Officer Gilberto Valle for a related kidnapping conspiracy, and began investigating Van Hise.

In addition, beginning in approximately January 2013, MELTZ, Asch, and an FBI agent working in an undercover capacity (“UC-1”) began discussions about kidnapping a woman, who unbeknownst to MELTZ and his co-conspirators, was also an FBI agent working in an undercover capacity. MELTZ participated in multiple conversations with both UC-1 and Asch about the conspiracy’s objective to kidnap and commit acts of violence against the intended victim and other women. He advised Asch to obtain a stun gun to subdue the intended target, and based on MELTZ’s direction, Asch purchased a high-voltage Taser gun at a gun show in Pennsylvania, which they intended to use in the commission of the kidnapping offense. Four asylum-seekers who braved trekking to the US-Mexico border — and across it — got so fed up waiting for beds in New York City that they used charity money to get out and head to Washington, DC, The Post has learned.

 

The unidentified men arrived in the Big Apple within the past three weeks and went to the city-run Bellevue Men’s Shelter, which also serves as an intake center for the Department of Homeless Services, sources said.

 

“They were either turned away or confused by the situation because there were a lot of people waiting for intake that day,” a source said.

 

The men — who don’t speak English — returned to the shelter “a few times” during about two and a half days in the city, but “ultimately they decided to go to Washington,” the source said.

 

They’d spent a night in the nation’s capital while traveling to New York and they used $50 gift cards they received from Catholic Charities to pay for their bus fares back there, the source said.

 

The Post exclusively reported this week that City Hall was scrambling to open a dedicated intake center for migrants with enough room to house 600 families in Midtown by Monday.

 

"Other migrants interviewed by The Post in San Antonio, Texas, said they were also hoping to get to New York City.

 

“The only thing I want right now is to be able to stay in a shelter where I can stay for at least a week, so I can work, and earn a little money to find a place to live for my family,” said Cesar Sandoval Guerrero, 26.

 

Guerrero said he, his wife and their kids, ages 3 and 4, left Venezuela on June 19 becausehe couldn’t afford to live on his wages as a National Guard member and was told to extort bribes from his neighbors to make ends meet.

 

“I will work anywhere,” he said."

John Paul Mac Isaac said two federal agents came to his Mac Shop in Wilmington, Del. in December 2019 to recoup the laptop following a subpoena, he details in his new book “American Injustice: My Battle to Expose the Truth.”

"They are concerned where we're in a situation where there could be violent. Ordinary people in the West reading and listening to the mainstream media have been presented with a series of narratives regarding the war in Ukraine. Apparently, Russia has been losing its war in Ukraine since the first days of the conflict. The evidence to support this is the fact that Russia apparently failed to conquer Kiev and other northern cities in the first few weeks of the conflict. During its failed attempt to conquer Kiev and other northern cities, Russian troops have committed numerous war crimes due to the artillery and missile attacks that they have launched on civilian infrastructure and residential areas. To compound matters, Russia’s armed forces have suffered staggering losses, high desertion rates and its generals are a set of bungling fools who could not organise a booze up in a brewery. Apparently, it is only a matter of time before the evil Russian hordes are pushed back across the border with their tails between their legs due to a combination of Ukrainian bravery and Western weaponry.

 

The picture that has been presented of the war in Ukraine is completely at odds with the reality of the situation on the ground. Surprisingly, information that supports this assertion, which totally undermines the Western media narratives regarding the war, is provided by an article in the August edition of the United States Marine Corps Gazette. Writing under under the pen name Marinus, a senior marine corps officer, provides an objective analysis of Russian military strategy since late February. It totally undermines the narratives provided by Western media and pro Washington politicians.

 

Marinus observes how Russia has pursued three distinct military campaigns since the beginning of the war in late February 2022. In the north fast moving Russian troops never attempted to capture cities such Kiev or Kharkov, they never made any attempt to convert temporary occupation into permanent possession. Their whole purpose was to act as a ‘grand deception’ which led the Kiev government to divert large forces from its main field army in the Donbass. This gave the Russian army the time to deploy its artillery units in large numbers into the Donbass, secure transport networks and accumulate large quantities of ammunition for the long campaign ahead.

 

In the southern campaign Russian armed forces ‘took immediate possession of comparable cities’. This was accompanied by a thoroughgoing political transformation whereby Russian civil servants took control of local government and Ukrainian banks and cell phone providers were replaced with Russian ones. Alongside this, Russian forces conducted raids in the vicinity of the city of Mikolaiv. These raids as in the ones around the northern cities forced the Ukrainian military to send forces to defend Mikolaiv and Odessa that otherwise could have been sent to the main theatre of operations in the Donbass.

NSA watchdog questions $230M in surveillance agency's labor costs, $16.4M in CARES Act invoices

 

The Golden Horseshoe is a weekly designation from Just The News intended to highlight egregious examples of wasteful taxpayer spending by the government. The award is named for the horseshoe-shaped toilet seats for military airplanes that cost the Pentagon a whopping $640 each back in the 1980s.

 

This week's Golden Horseshoe is awarded to the National Security Agency for $227 million in questionable labor charges, $16.4 million in questionable CARES Act invoices, and $3.6 million wasted on a parking structure that had to be demolished before ever being used, according to the Office of Inspector General's semiannual report to Congress.

 

The unclassified report detailed the OIG's audits during the course of the year and its findings ofwasteful and questionable spending by the NSA.

 

"In the Audit of the Agency's Parking and Transportation Initiatives, we found, among other things, that due to a lack of internal controls related to project oversight, risk assessment, and dispute resolution, the agency wasted $3.6 million constructing a parking structure that had never been built in the United States before and ultimately had to be demolished without ever being used," the OIG reported.

 

NSA Inspector General Rober P. Storch also reported questionable labor charges and hundreds of thousands of dollars in questionable travel charges representing about three-fourths of its audit samples.

 

In its audit of cost-reimbursement contracts, the OIG made "a number of significant findings, including that the Agency's Contracting Officer Representative process was ineffective and inefficient, and that its review of actual costs was insufficient," Storch wrote in his introductory message to the report. "This caused us to question labor charges of approximately $227 million and travel charges of over $226,000, totaling approximately 75 percent of the invoices sampled in our audit."

 

Storch's report to Congress highlighted an audit of the agency's implementation of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, which found "significant issues," including insufficient invoice reviews.

 

"Evolving guidelines, reduced contract oversight staffing during the COVID-19 pandemic, an over-reliance on contractor-provided information, and the absence of clear and comprehensive Contracting Officer Representative oversight procedures for CARES invoices caused the OIG to question more than $16.4 million, or 40 percent of the sampled CARES invoice charges," according to the report. "The questionable costs were due to the status of contractor employees, differences in invoice documentation, and questionable billing rates, hours, and timeframes."

 

Storch reported that NSA management agreed with all the OIG's 171 recommendations to effectively, efficiently and economically improve its operations.

Trump lawyer Christina Bobb said in interviews Thursday night that President Trump and his family in New York watched the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago Monday via closed circuit TV security cameras. Bobb said the FBI had ordered staff at Mar-a-Lago to turn the cameras off but that Trump lawyers had the cameras turned back on.

 

Bobb spoke to Dr. Gina Loudon on Real America’s Voice:

 

Bobb, “It’s kind of funny. I think the folks in New York, President Trump and his family, probably had a better view than I did because they had the CCTV that they were able to watch. I was stuck in the parking lot there to collect paper and answer questions. But they were able to see the whole thing. So, they actually have a better idea of what took place inside.”

 

Bobb responding to Dr. Gina asking about reports FBI agents ordered the cameras turned off, “Well, they did. So initially they said you need to turn off all the cameras. And then, you know, of course the staff complied and said, ‘oh, the FBI’s making us turn off the cameras’. And then the lawyers jumped in and said no you actually don’t have to turn them off. So shortly after they turned them back on. So, the cameras were only off for a short period of time.”

 

Politico’s Meredith McGraw reported on Bobb’s comments on the Ingraham Angle on the Fox News Channel Thursday night:

Former President Donald Trump’s legal team is weighing whether to release the search warrant and inventory of material seized at Mar-a-Lago before a federal judge rules on the matter, according to a Florida-based attorney for Trump, Lindsey Halligan.

 

Earlier Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the Justice Department had filed a motion to unseal the warrant and related documents, “absent objection from the former president.” Trump has until 3 p.m. Friday to respond.

 

His legal team is also discussing whether to release video and photos of the search, Halligan said. Two sources familiar with Trump’s legal strategy said that before FBI agents executed the warrant, they asked that Mar-a-Lago’s private security cameras be turned off. Trump’s team refused to comply.

 

The U.S. Secret Service, which maintains a permanent presence at the former president’s home, was not a party to the dispute over the cameras because the private club owns and controls the cameras, not the government.

 

It isn’t clear what any video that may have been captured by Mar-a-Lago’s cameras would show. According to Halligan, there were security cameras in Trump’s office, but not in all of the areas that were searched. She also said that there are photos of FBI personnel on the grounds.
