I cringe every time I hear the United States Of America being referred to as a democracy, We are a Constitutional Republic. The founders of our Republic were loath of creating a democracy. The word democracy doesn't occur once in the Declaration Of Independence or the Articles Of Confederation or the Constitution Of The United States Of America.
