Hawley Responds To Running For President…

https://populist.press/hawley-responds-to-running-for-president/

https://www.politico.com/news/2021/02/04/josh-hawley-2024-465756

‘He’s clearly laying groundwork’: Hawley paves 2024 path

The face of the Biden resistance is taking shape in the Senate: Josh Hawley.

In a prelude to a widely expected 2024 presidential bid, the Missouri Republican is the only senator to oppose every one of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet nominees — a distinction sealed Tuesday when he voted against confirming new Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Hawley briefly held up the confirmation of another Cabinet official, for the Department of Homeland Security.

Even before Biden became president, Hawley initiated his bid for the Trump wing of the party by becoming the first senator to announce he would vote against the Electoral College results certifying the new president’s win, thrilling the outgoing president and his followers.

Hawley, whose Senate seat is up for election in 2024, has said repeatedly that he isn’t running for president.

“All I can say is no,” Hawley said in an interview on Wednesday, denying he has an overarching plan to oppose Biden’s nominees. “What can I say? That’s clearly not my focus.”

But aside from Hawley’s allies, no one familiar with presidential politics or the U.S. Senate is taking the 41-year-old at his word — especially after several Democratic senators used their opposition to early Trump appointees as a springboard to 2020.

“Hawley’s always been a young man in a hurry. He ran for attorney general on a plank he would serve all four years and [almost] immediately ran for U.S. Senate once he got in office,” said Scott Reed, a veteran Republican strategist who last worked for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s political arm. He noted that Hawley established himself “by taking early shots at Big Tech and he really developed a taste for the wine, meaning he really liked all the attention. And he’s built on that.”

Reed said that “Hawley is becoming an exotic for Republican primary voters” because the Yale-educated lawyer has established a niche for himself as an early critic of social media companies while trying to appeal to working-class voters.

While the Missouri senator is “an asterisk in early Republican surveys I’ve seen,” Reed said, “he’s clearly laying groundwork for running for president in 2024. There’s no way else to explain this behavior.”

But it’s come at a cost.

His eagerness to ingratiate himself with Trump supporters led to a now infamous Jan. 6 photo of Hawley, outside the Capitol, pumping his fist in support of a throng of demonstrators who later went on to storm the building, vandalize it and temporarily delay the vote.

Hawley’s role in opposing the Electoral College vote resulted in a Senate ethics complaint, and led Simon & Schuster to cancel his book deal, The Tyranny of Big Tech, last month. And former Missouri Sen. John Danforth — who helped propel Hawley to the seat Danforth held decades ago — withdrew his support of the senator, saying his endorsement was “the worst mistake I ever made.”

Hawley has decried both the invasion of the Capitol and the president’s remarks on Jan. 6, but at the same time said Trump’s impeachment trial is unconstitutional. And he made clear in an interview that Biden is unpopular in his state and that part of his job is to be the “loyal opposition, as our U.K. friends like to say.”

‘He’s clearly laying groundwork’: Hawley paves 2024 path cont

It's also a profitable endeavor in the partisan world of internet-based fundraising.

Hawley is becoming more of a regular on Fox News, the most-watched cable channel for Republican primary voters, and his fundraising has kept pace with his growing national profile. Negative news media coverage and the Democrats’ ethics investigation of him and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for their roles leading up to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot has served to stoke his coffers: A memo sent to donors this week said he raised nearly $1 million in January, touted his popularity in the state and argued his electoral objections were popular in Missouri.

“If the Democrats think you’re so powerful and influential that they have to take you down a notch, it’s going to help with fundraising, but you have to have substance,” said David Carney, a top Republican consultant who advised Rick Perry’s 2012 presidential campaign.

“He’s definitely one of the two dozen guys in the mix for president. Why would anybody know a Missouri senator, basically a freshman who’s a first-termer? This is what you need to do to break through the clutter,” Carney said. “Now it’s a double-edged sword because if you do too much crazy stuff, you’re not credible. So you have to do non-crazy stuff. You can’t become a caricature. You can’t be the class clown.”

Hawley defends his objections to the election results as a legitimate expression of constituents’ concerns and says he was not trying to overturn the election. His pointed opposition to Biden’s agenda, he says, is coming from the same place. He insists he is not necessarily determined to oppose all of them.

“I can just tell you in Missouri, people are kind of shell shocked: ‘What in the world?’ He’s being so aggressive, they are not even attempting to work across the aisle,” said Hawley of Biden. “If it’s not good for my state, then yeah, I certainly will” vote no.

The youngest senator when he was elected in 2018, Hawley is a soaring orator with a sense for tapping into Trump’s confrontational style of populist politics. He often addresses the Senate floor in an unusual, direct-to-camera manner, pushing for bigger stimulus checks or condemning the Supreme Court decision expanding protections to LGTBQ employees. He’s distinguished himself within the GOP by promoting pricey solutions to the pandemic’s economic effects, tanking some judges supported by his own party and lashing out at technology companies.

The Senate’s Trump lane has three top names so far: Hawley, Cruz and Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who shares a consulting firm with the junior senator from Missouri. Along with five other senators and 139 representatives, all three opposed certifying Biden’s Electoral College win — even after the deadly Capitol riot.

That vote had no parallel in modern U.S. politics, even compared to 2017 when Democratic resistance to Trump ran hot and senators like New York’s Kirsten Gillibrand voted against nearly every Trump nominee in advance of her 2020 presidential bid.

“Hawley’s made a decision that resistance is the path to Nirvana,” said Jef Pollock, a pollster who advised Gillibrand’s campaign.

“The notion of how early is too early — if you’ve decided you need to be the resistance — then the resistance needs to be as pure as possible. And that means taking every stand on every vote, it means voting against every single nominee, from rational to irrational. It’s clean, it’s: ‘They’re all no good. They are all bad because they stand for something I can’t stand for.”

One of Hawley’s Republican allies in the Senate, North Dakota’s Kevin Cramer, pushed back on that notion, saying “I don’t attribute running for president as his motive for things.

“I have great respect for him. But it will be interesting four years from now, eight years from now, when we look at how he’s developed whether he’s changed any of that strategy or whether he’s the gung-ho, fire in the belly brawler,” Cramer said. “Clearly he can do bigger things if that’s what he wants to do.”

Though Hawley had notably been pushing his party to go much bigger in response to the coronavirus throughout 2020 — lobbying Trump directly to push for direct payments to Americans — he’s shown little interest in Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan, stopping short of outright opposition because he hasn’t seen legislative text.

“Josh Hawley is doing all the right things to capitalize politically on a significant portion of the Republican base, positioning himself to become a future presidential candidate, absolutely,” said Terry Sullivan, a former presidential campaign manager for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). “What Hawley does with this, we’ll see. But it’s important to remember that any time a U.S. senator or governor looks in the mirror, he sees a future president.”

Lin Wood, [06.02.21 18:43]

My staff is noodling the idea of creating a podcast for me called Lin’Cast. I will keep you posted if the idea comes to fruition.

I want to share another song sent to me by Nicole with this message, “this melody woke me up in the middle of the night and the lyrics came pouring out so quickly .. never have I written like that before and I knew it was ALL HIM and that it’s a love song from Him to us. I really feel He’s singing this to YOU Lin at this time!”

I think God created a special talent in Nicole. I predict she will soar in the music industry. Give her song a listen to see if your agree with me. God bless Nicole and ALL who hear your voice and these words.

If the New War on Terror Is Fought Like the Last One…

BY ROBERT SPENCER FEB 06, 2021 5:48 PM ET

CIA agent Kevin Carroll wants a new waron terror. He wrote Monday: “We defeated al Qaeda and can do the same to the fascist thugs who attacked our democracy last month. But only if we take similar hard measures against the enemy within.” Trump supporters were offended by this, but it’s actually the best idea anyone has had since Donald Trump decided to go down that escalator and run for president.

The new war on terror will not be fought only against those who want to overthrow the government. Carroll’s CIA colleague Robert Grenier told NPR Tuesday that “even at the seeming height of the crisis immediately after 9/11,” he explained, “there really weren’t that many members of al-Qaida in Afghanistan.” So it wasn’t only they who had to be hunted down. What was done to al-Qaeda and has to be done now, Grenier said, is “to remove the supportive environment in which they were able to live and to flourish.”

The “supportive environment” in which the Capitol rioters “flourish” is you, me, and Aunt Mabel, ordinary Americans who committed the crime of voting for Donald Trump.

But fighting this like we fought al-Qaeda, that’s a capital idea, if you’ll pardon the expression. It will mean that the political and media elites will take great pains to assure the public at every conceivable opportunity that the Capitol rioters do not represent Trump supporters in the aggregate, but are rather the exponents of a twisted and hijacked version of Trumpism, a thoroughly peaceful and benign ideology.

Overheated leftist ideologues such as Reza Aslan and Mehdi Hasan, if they dare suggest that all Trump supporters are, in Aslan’s words, “by definition white nationalist terror supporters,” will be excoriated as racist, bigoted Trumpophobes whose “hate” must result in their marginalization, deplatforming, and ultimate complete silencing. Even those who take pains to repeat that not all Trump supporters are terrorists will also be tarred as Trumpophobes anyway; in fact, even the slightest criticism of Trump or his political agenda will before too long be regarded as unacceptable Trumpophobia and an indication that the speaker has no place in polite society.

The UN and other organizations will take up the problem of Trumpophobia and call upon member states to establish legal safeguards to protect Trump supporters and to admit more to their countries, if they choose to leave the U.S. as refugees. The establishment media will regularly feature admiring pieces about moderate Trump supporters who are working hard to clear away “misconceptions” about what support for Trump really means. Those who ask these Trump supporters to state for the record that they oppose the storming of the Capitol and any attempt to overthrow the government will be drowned out by cascades of accusations that they are trafficking in “hate” and otherizing an entire community. The entertainment industry will go out of its way to feature wise, genial Trump supporters in movies, characters who are often unjustly suspected of terrorism but are ultimately found to have been fighting against terrorism all along.

Meanwhile, the U.S. government will implement programs of outreach to moderate pro-Trump organizations, who will enjoy virtually unfettered access into the three branches of government at all levels. Presidential candidates will angle for the votes of Trump supporters and their allies by promising to appoint more Trump supporters to his administration. The military will begin to arm and train moderate Trump supporters to fight against the militants, and if indications appear that any of the people they took to be moderates are actually aiding those militants, military brass will turn away and pretend they didn’t see a thing, for the sake of the greater good involved.

Every time a radical Trump supporter commits a terrorist attack, the airwaves and social media will be full of stories about how moderate Trump supporters are the real victims, how they face so much unjust suspicion, how they’ve asked for extra police protection in the wake of the attack, for fear of an anti-Trump backlash, and how they’re doctors, lawyers, schoolteachers – the pillars of the community.

As a Trump supporter myself, I think this all sounds like a great idea. Mr. Carroll, you’re on: Let’s fight this new war on terror the way we fought the last one. Where do I sign up for my government grant?

@RaheemKassam

WOW!

Evidence that the powers that be KNEW in advance that certain groups were planning to make the MAGA rally on January 6th violent.

…they did nothing to stop it.

‘Inconsistent, Conflicting’ And Ignored Threat Assessments Ahead of Jan 6 Capitol Attack.

A New York Times report has let the cat out of the bag: that law enforcement either knew and did nothing about the potential for violence on January 6th, or issued conflicting and inconsistent threat assessments ahead of the events at the U.S. Capitol.

The news will raise questions as to why authorities allowed a predominantly peaceful Trump speech and rally in Washington, D.C. to be infiltrated and overtaken by forces who had planned for violence in advance.

Questions will also be asked about why authorities immediately claimed President Donald Trump had “incited” the riot with his speech at the Ellipse outside the White House when we now know much of the violent behavior was pre-meditated.

The New York Times reported on Friday afternoon:

On Jan. 4, the intelligence division of the U.S. Capitol Police issued a report listing all the groups known to be descending on the city… The documents show how the police and federal law enforcement agencies produced inconsistent and sometimes conflicting assessments of the threat from American citizens marching on the Capitol.

The article called intelligence “muddled,” saying almost every code word for “institutional failures” without using the term itself.

Biden donor and new Capitol Hill Police Chief Yogananda Pittman admitted last week: “We knew that there was a strong potential for violence and that Congress was the target… but we did not do enough.”

And the New York Times also makes clear of another FBI failure on January 6th, making this the bureau’s more recent in a long, recent history of intelligence and operational flubs.

“The FBI was aware of violent online posts before the rally, with the bureau’s field office in Norfolk, Virginia, issuing a report that flagged one anonymous thread that warned of a looming war at the Capitol.”

They also make clear in the report that the groups at fault are entities that Donald Trump has – a number of times – denounced:

Still, the mob that stormed the Capitol was filled with members of groups that the FBI had identified as domestic terrorism threats, like militias, white supremacists and adherents of the QAnon conspiracy.

President Trump is on the record condemning white supremacy, and said in August last year: “I don’t know much about [QAnon].”

The news will raise further questions about why intelligence and law enforcement agencies – and the political leaders they respond to – did nothing in advance of the events.

Exclusive – Adviser: Trump Considers Launching His Own Social Media Platform

Jason Miller, a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump, revealed on Saturday that the former president is considering launching his own social media platform in the not-too-distant future.

The news, which comes after Trump was banned permanently from Twitter and indefinitely from Facebook, came during Miller’s appearance on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel.

“I would expect that we will see the president reemerge on social media,” Miller said when asked what Trump plans to do next. “Whether that’s joining an existing platform or creating his new platform, there are a number of different options and a number of different meetings that they’ve been having on that front. Nothing is imminent on that.”

Asked about what a Trump social network—called something like “Trumper” or something similar—would look like, Miller was circumspect but said the former president is considering both joining existing new platforms or launching his own competitor to the tech giants in Silicon Valley.

“All options are on the table,” Miller said. “A number of things are being discussed. Stay tuned there because you know he’s going to be back on social media. We’re just kind of figuring out which avenue makes the most sense.”

As of mid-January before Democrat President Joe Biden’s inauguration, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg told NBC News that the social network has “no plans” to lift Trump’s indefinite ban anytime soon.

Twitter, meanwhile, has made its ban of the former president’s account permanent. “I do not celebrate or feel pride in our having to ban @realDonaldTrump from Twitter,“ Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey wrote in a thread explaining his company’s move, adding, ”I believe this was the right decision for Twitter.”

Potential existing alternatives that Trump could join include Parler, who the then-president’s campaign officials reportedly met with last summer to discuss Trump joining the platform, or Gab, another platform that has successfully battled blacklisting by Silicon Valley and financial institutions. If Trump seeks to build his own platform, that would be a massive undertaking and require lots of investment and technological infrastructure. But with his personality and supporters—75 million Americans voted for him in 2020, the most votes a sitting president has ever gotten in history—fueling it, it could end up being successful.

Trump has long battled big tech, and told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview in the Oval Office in August last year that “100 percent” the big tech companies like Twitter, Facebook, and Google, are trying to control information that Americans see. “Do you have a doubt?” Trump said when asked if they are trying to control the information flow to the public.

“The tech companies are very dishonest about that and about free speech,” Trump told Breitbart News. “It could be a big problem for them at the appropriate time.”

Greenwalkd on starting a rival media org

Glenn Greenwald

@ggreenwald

There have been a lot of discussions about this and a lot of progress made toward it. As is turns out, super-rich people are not extremely fond of parting with their money even for projects they support - that's one reason they're super-rich I suppose - but this seems inevitable:

Kaveh Shahrooz

@kshahrooz

Serious question: why are investors not stepping up, gathering all the excellent journalists who are driven out of mainstream publications, and starting a rival media org? I think there's a real hunger for good journalism/opinions that are not run through ideological filters.

https://twitter.com/kshahrooz/status/1358061240745144320

Something like this would work, and would only be valuable, if it included real reporting teams. Lots of focus is on the way repressive and illiberal climates restrict opinion writing - and of course it's done that - but first & foremost it's contaminated reporting.

It's true that new digital media outlets have failed to succeed financially, hence part of the reluctance. But the subscription model works, and there is a huge hunger for reporting, writing & content liberated from repressive chains. It will work journalistically & financially.

Biden Bars "Erratic" Trump From Receiving Intel Briefings Customary For Former Presidents

by Tyler Durden - Saturday, Feb 06, 2021 - 14:00

The New York Times is reporting that President Biden has barred his predecessor Donald Trump from receiving intelligence briefings that all former presidents are entitled to after they leave office.

While it's a longstanding tradition for past presidents, in Trump's case Biden is citing Trump's "erratic behavior unrelated to the insurrection" to justify the ban. Biden made the comments during a new "CBS Evening News" interview with anchor Norah O'Donnell which will air just ahead of the Super Bowl on Sunday. Biden also fears trump might "slip" and reveal classified information publicly.

Biden was asked directly what the main concern is when it comes to Trump receiving the customary briefings. Biden responded: "I just think that there is no need for him to have the – the intelligence briefings. What value is giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and say something?" CBS has teased the interview by releasing the below clip:

Here's the key part of the exchange via CBS:

"Well, let me ask you then something that you do have oversight of as president," O'Donnell said. "Should former President Trump still receive intelligence briefings?"

Former presidents often have the opportunity to receive intelligence briefings as a courtesy.

"I think not," Mr. Biden responded.

"Why not?" O'Donnell asked.

"Because of his erratic behavior unrelated to the insurrection," Mr. Biden said.

Biden's comments come roughly three weeks after the Washington Post published an Op-Ed from former deputy director of national intelligence from 2017 - 2019, Susan M. Gordan, who wrote that Trump poses a "potential national security risk" - citing his plan to remain engaged in politics, and his "significant business entanglements that involve foreign entities."

Additionally The New York Times has noted that this would constitute the first time in history that a former president will be blocked from such briefings by the sitting president. "The move was the first time that a former president had been cut out of the briefings," NY Times wrote.

Video: Asked whether former Pres. Trump should still receive intelligence briefings, Pres. Biden tells @NorahODonnell “I think not.” Pres. Biden says it’s “because of his erratic behavior unrelated to the insurrection.”

pic.twitter.com/oncbuQUk6d

— Mike Walker (@New_Narrative) February 6, 2021

The briefing to former presidents is considered a "courtesy" - with the daily intelligence briefings also currently being provided to Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

But during the CBS interview Biden reaffirmed his earlier words when O'Donnell brought up his prior assessment of Trump as an "existential threat" and "dangerous, you've called him reckless" - to which Biden said, "I believe it".

Theoretically it enables the sitting president to reach out to past presidents for advice on foreign policy issues and threats the nation is facing. However, the Democrats now deem Trump himself a "threat" given they blame him for "incitement" - charges now being brought publicly as part of impeachment efforts - for the January 6 Capitol Hill unrest.

We are about to enter a long night in our Republic.

This it the restless eve of a long conflict to see if a Republic conceived in Liberty can survive. We are facing strong enemies both at home and abroad who can not stand to see free people prosper. Many of our fellow countrymen don't even have a concept of how free people are to live, let alone be one themselves.

We must prepare our hearts and steel our resolve to face the coming conflagration. The Grapes of Wrath will descend upon us, not seen in this nation for 160 years. The lines have been drawn and now voices are calling for operations against American Patriots within our borders (see >>52986, >>52987, >>52997 all PB). Robert Grenier former clown in an interview with NPR spelled out what their plans are. He was station chief in Afghanistan during 9/11 and in the summer of 2002 he was promoted to the chief of the Iraq Issues Group, where he helped coordinate covert operations in support of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. This guy knew about Abu Ghraib while it happened and now he wants to see the same counter-insurgency take place here. These are the enemies we are dealing with within our borders, our enemies abroad are just as or more ruthless.

We will be tested as a people and nation as we have never been tested before, we are up against unspeakable evil which dwells in the hearts of those who seek to destroy our Republic. We come from a long line of freedom loving people who are conceived in Liberty yet the battle is by no means won. It will long and hard and even the most stout of heart will waver from time to time. Cherish your loved ones and your families, seek out like minded Patriots and individuals who love Liberty. Most of all, stand fast and seek Divine guidance in all your endeavors.

May God have mercy on our people and nation.

How To Protect Your Local Economy From The Great Reset

by Tyler Durden - Saturday, Feb 06, 2021 - 21:30

Authored by Brandon Smith via Birch Gold Group,

Over the years, I have written extensively about the concept of economic “decentralization” and localization, but I think these ideas are difficult for some people to visualize without proper motivation. By that I mean, it’s not enough that the current centralized model is destructive and corrupt; it has to start breaking down or show its true totalitarian colors before anyone will do anything to protect themselves.

Sadly, the majority of people tend to take action only when they have hit rock bottom.

In recent months the pandemic lockdown situation has provided a sufficient wake up call to many conservatives and moderates. We have seen the financial effects of pandemic restrictions in blue states, with hundreds of thousands of small businesses closing, tax revenues imploding and millions of people relocating to red states just to escape the oppressive environment.

Luckily, conservative regions have been smart enough to prevent self destruction by staying mostly open. In fact, red states have been vastly outperforming blue states in terms of economic recovery exactly because they refuse to submit to medical tyranny.

I outlined this dynamic in detail recently in my article Blue State Economies Will Soon Crumble – But Will They Take Red States With Them?

The data is undeniable: the states and cities that enforce lockdown mandates are dying, the states that ignore mandates are surviving. However, with a Biden presidency there is a high probability that the federal government will now seek to force compliance from all states. In other words, lockdowns will become a national issue rather than a state issue.

For now, Biden is pretending as if reopening is right around the corner, but as I have noted in the past, the Reset agenda will never allow this. A reopening, if it happens at all, will be short and lockdowns will return. We are already seeing a new narrative being introduced to the public involving “COVID mutations”, which are supposedly “more deadly” than the original COVID-19 outbreak. So, there is a brand new and useful threat and the establishment will exploit it as a rationale for more lockdowns and restrictions.

Beyond the pandemic mandates, there are also numerous Reset agenda policies that will be implemented under the Biden administration, including insane Green New Deal related executive orders and legislation claiming to reduce carbon emissions. What they will really do is annihilate resource production. Millions of jobs will be lost and entire industries will be erased unless conservatives act to stop Biden in his tracks.

This means doing far more than stalling through political maneuvers. We are going to have to use concrete strategies to retake control of resource management within the states. Pointless globalist carbon policies composed by entities like the UN have no place in American economic planning. A message needs to be sent that they will never be accepted here.

Time is running out to prepare. Lockdowns will return within a few months and this time they will be federally enforced. Conservatives must be ready to defy these orders if they have any hope of saving their local economies. This is going to take individual efforts to stock necessities and secure their finances, but ultimately wider organization is going to be needed to weather the storm.

Conservatives must establish coalitions of counties and states, and certain economic measures will have to be applied to insulate from damage. The federal government and Biden will attempt to punish red states for refusing to submit, and we need to be ready for that eventuality.

''Here are some ways that conservative communities can stop the Reset agenda…''

Localization

On a smaller scale, conservatives can accomplish a lot by simply changing their buying habits. If you do 80% of your retail spending with big box stores and online outlets like Amazon and only 20% at local small businesses, then try to switch that ratio. Spend 80% at local businesses and 20% at corporate outlets. Yes, small businesses tend to cost a little extra, but who do you really want your money going to? Do you want your money filling the pockets of international corporate moguls that are working to destroy your freedoms and undermine your economy? Or, do you want your cash to circulate locally?

Individuals can also start their own business from home focusing on production of necessities or necessary skill sets. They can establish a small business co-op and encourage the community to buy locally. Often, people just don’t know how many services are available from small businesses in their area, so they automatically go to big box providers. Small businesses must work together to change the dynamic.

This strategy also extends to local farms. Consumers and grocery stores need to buy more of their produce from farms in the area and less from chains which ship in produce from other countries. There are millions of acres of farmland in the U.S. that do not grow food at all because these farms are paid by the federal government not to. Encouraging local food production is paramount to remaining free from centralized control.

Organized Refusal To Comply

The problem with conservatives is that we tend to be so independent that we avoid organization. This is a problem because it leads to self-isolation. During the pandemic lockdowns in blue states, some conservative-owned businesses refused to comply, but they were left mostly to fend for themselves with no aid from the wider community. If more businesses were to ally with each other and protested in tandem, dozens or hundreds of defiant businesses working together would be a lot harder to shut down than just a few.

By extension, it’s not enough for conservatives to merely argue against the lockdowns and demand businesses stay open, we need to also defend those businesses that take action. We need to support them with our dollars and stand in the way of anyone trying to close them down. They are taking a big risk for us, so we need to be willing to take risks for them.

Imagine if Biden tried to assert a national lockdown order and more than half the businesses in the country ignored him? What if patrons refused to allow federal agencies to intimidate those businesses? The lockdowns would be nullified, and Biden would have little recourse.

Establish Barter Networks

In the event that the U.S. economy breaks down completely, we must create contingencies to prevent total trade disruption. Without trade, populations become desperate because no one has the ability to provide every necessity all the time. People have to be able to barter goods and services in an open market.

Barter networks are a base fundamental, the universal go-to solution during economic collapse. Every society in modern history has used barter markets to stay afloat during financial crisis and to bypass government economic controls. We must be willing to do the same.

Conservatives must start organizing barter networks within their communities now. It does not matter if you are trading with a couple of people or hundreds; the process needs to start somewhere.

Why is this so important? Because there is a very good chance that the federal government will try to fiscally punish any state or county that opposes lockdown measures and Reset policies. This means that the government will first seek to cut off federal funding to red states. In the midst of economic crisis, many regions have become reliant on federal stimulus as a crutch, and this dependency makes them vulnerable to control.

To truly rebel against the Reset, local economies need to be free from federal oversight or consequences. With barter networks in place along with possible local scrip and alternative currencies, the public will be less fearful of economic retaliation.

Take Back Management Of Local Resources

We have already seen attempts by Biden to disrupt production of carbon based energy resources like oil and coal. Frankly, the time is long past due for states and counties to take back control of federal lands. The government has been stifling American production for decades and this has hurt rural communities in particular.

In my area, the EPA has essentially destroyed the timber harvesting industry through unfair regulations. This has led to federal mismanagement of forests to the point that fire hazard has become a major issue. All the young men in the county used work as lumberjacks to support their families; now they have to leave, or work as wildland firefighters. It’s completely backwards. And this is happening while U.S. lumber prices are skyrocketing.

Conservative counties and states need to take back land and resource management and allow reasonable production to return. Biden should have no say in whether or not oil wells in North Dakota stay operational, or coal mines in West Virginia stay open, or trees Montana are selectively harvested. As long as the bulk of wealth from the resource production stays within the state where the resources were harvested, I see no downside to this kind of response.

If the federal government tries to retaliate by cutting off federal funds, it won’t matter because the states will be producing jobs and wealth for themselves independently.

Immunity From Cancel Culture

In our current political environment, it is becoming a fact of life that the hard left can and will try to harm people that oppose their ideology. Big tech companies and government are helping them to do this. Now more than ever, conservatives that wish to remain free to voice their views and share facts that are contrary to the leftist narrative must seek protection from cancellation. But how do we do this?

For one, we can work for ourselves. Being self employed means never having to worry about being fired because of your political opinions. Or, conservatives need to work for conservatives. This means conservative companies need to focus on hiring conservative employees, and if the leftist mob tries to attack an individual, those companies can easily ignore them. Of course, this also means that conservative consumers need to start making a list of conservative companies that have proven themselves to be immune to leftist pressure. We need to support these companies.

Conservatives should also look into the possibility of campaigns to build more platform alternatives to Big Tech and social media. We need more web service providers that are owned by people who respect free speech rights. We may even need our own internet.

All of these things are possible, but it takes organization and effort. Conservative communities can become safe havens for civil liberties, but this means we cannot be isolated from each other anymore. We have to be connected by more than our principles, we must also be connected through actions.

Tens of thousands protest Myanmar coup amid internet blackout

Protesters rally in Yangon for a second day, denouncing military coup and demanding Aung San Suu Kyi’s release.

7 Feb 2021

Tens of thousands of people rallied again in Myanmar’s biggest city Yangon on Sunday denouncing a military coup and demanding the release of elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Protesters marching in Yangon for a second consecutive day on Sunday carried red balloons – the colour of Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) – and chanted, “We don’t want military dictatorship! We want democracy!”

They walked in the bright sunshine down the middle of the road, waving NLD flags and making the three-figure salute that has become a symbol of protest against the February 1 coup. Drivers honked their horns and passengers held up photos of Aung San Suu Kyi.

“We will move forward and keep demanding until we get democracy. Down with the military dictatorship,” protester Myo Win, 37, told AFP news agency.

The scenes, broadcast on Facebook, were some of the few that have come out of the country since Myanmar’s military authorities shut down the internet and restricted phone lines on Saturday.Netblocks, a UK-based service that tracks internet disruptions, said “a near-total internet shutdown” was in effect in Myanmar by Saturday afternoon, with connectivity falling to just 16 percent of normal levels.

The broad outage followed a military order on Friday to block Twitter and Instagram after authorities said some people were trying to use the platforms to spread “fake news”. Facebook had already been blocked earlier in the week – though not fully.

Update: A near-total internet shutdown is now in effect in #Myanmar.

The communication blackout has lent greater urgency to efforts to resist the coup. Saturday saw the largest protests to date, with tens of thousands coming out in cities across the country to condemn the coup that brought a 10-year experiment with democracy to a crashing halt.

In Yangon, thousands of people – factory workers and students prominent among them – marched down a main street on Saturday, chanting, “Military dictator, fail, fail; Democracy, win, win”.

Similar-sized demonstrations took place in at least two other parts of the city. At Yangon’s City Hall, protesters presented flowers to police, some of whom carried assault rifles.

Thousands more also took to the streets in Myanmar’s second city Mandalay and its military-built capital Naypyidaw, home to the nation’s government bueaucrats, where demonstrators chanted anti-coup slogans and called for Aung San Suu Kyi’s release.

“#Myanmar’s military and police must ensure the right to peaceful assembly is fully respected and demonstrators are not subjected to reprisals,” the UN Human Rights office tweeted after Saturday’s protests.

Despite the large-scale deployment of riot police – backed by water cannon – there were no reports of major clashes.

‘We must all stand with the people of Myanmar’

With the internet cut off and official information scarce, rumours swirled about the fate of Suu Kyi and her cabinet. A story that she had been released, which drew huge crowds onto the streets to celebrate overnight on Saturday, was quickly quashed by her lawyer.

More than 160 people have been arrested since the military seized power in the early hours of Monday, said Thomas Andrews, the UN special rapporteur on Myanmar.

“The generals are now attempting to paralyse the citizen movement of resistance – and keep the outside world in the dark – by cutting virtually all internet access,” Andrews said in a statement on Sunday.

“We must all stand with the people of Myanmar in their hour of danger and need. They deserve nothing less.”

The civil disobedience movement has been building in Myanmar all week, with doctors and teachers among those refusing to work. Every night, people bang pots and pans in a show of anger.

Debbie Stothard, founder of the campaign group, the alternative ASEAN network on Burma, told Al Jazeera the protesters were “taking a huge risk” as the military had cracked down on protests in the past with lethal force, killing thousands of people.

But people in Myanmar are “very angry”, said Stothard. “They know this is more than about the NLD and Aung San Suu Kyi. This is about their future. This military has messed with the wrong generation.”

She added, “The military dictatorship is gambling on the fact that there will be a lot of statements, but no real action. It’s time to target military companies, because economic power is one of the motivating forces for the military to grab power like this.”

As the civil disobedience movement gathered steam over the weekend, the military ordered telecoms networks to freeze access to social media platforms, which have been critical sources of independent news as well as organising tools for protests.

In a statement, Twitter said it was “deeply concerned” about the blockage order and vowed to “advocate to end destructive government-led shutdowns”. Its spokesman said the blockages “undermines the public conversation and the rights of people to make their voices heard”.

Facebook also urged the military to reverse its decision.

“At this critical time, the people of Myanmar need access to important information and to be able to communicate with their loved ones,” Facebook’s head of public policy for Asia-Pacific emerging countries, Rafael Frankel, said in a statement.

Amnesty International meanwhile called the shutdown “a heinous and reckless decision” at a time when Myanmar was coping with the coup, years of civil conflict and the COVID-19 crisis.

Army chief Min Aung Hlaing seized power on February 1, accusing Suu Kyi and her NLD of failing to act on the army’s complaints that last November’s election was marred by fraud. The election commission said it had found no evidence to support the claims.

The military announced a one-year state of emergency and has promised to hand over power after new elections, without giving a timeframe.

Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace laureate, has been charged with illegally importing six walkie-talkies, while removed President Win Myint is accused of flouting COVID-19 restrictions. Neither has been seen since the coup. Their lawyer said they were being held in their homes.

Australian detained

The coup has sparked international outrage, with the United States considering sanctions against the generals and the UN Security Council calling for the release of all detainees.

It has also deepened tensions between the US and China, which has close links to Myanmar’s military. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pressed top Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi in a phone call on Friday to condemn the coup, the State Department said.

The generals have few overseas interests vulnerable to sanctions but the military’s extensive business investments could suffer if foreign partners leave – as Japanese drinks company Kirin Holdings said it would on Friday.

Meanwhile, the office of Australia’s foreign minister said in a statement on Saturday the government was “deeply concerned about reports of Australian and other foreign nationals being detained arbitrarily in Myanmar”.

The statement said the government was concerned in particular about one Australian who had been detained at a police station.

The Reuters news agency identified him as Sean Turnell, an Australian economic adviser to Suu Kyi.

Australian academic Sean Turnell has been detained in Myanmar.

Suu Kyi spent 15 years under house arrest after leading pro-democracy protests against the long-ruling military government in 1988.

After sharing power with a civilian government, the army began democratic reforms in 2011. That led to the election of the NLD in a landslide victory four years later.

November’s election was meant to solidify a troubled democratic transition.

FAKE NEWS 'creating drama' Shots heard at Myanmar protests demanding release of Aung San Suu Kyi

As live video from Facebook streamed across the world on Sunday, viewers watched in horror at what unfolded before their eyes.

Footage has emerged of onlookers ducking for cover as shots are fired at protests in Myanmar against a military coup, demanding the release of deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Videos posted to Facebook on Sunday afternoon show people hiding as armed soldiers move up the street in Myawaddy, near the border with Thailand.

Shots can be heard as onlookers duck down.

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets over the weekend, including Myanmar’s largest city, Yangon, to protest against the ousting of the civilian government by the country’s military.

According to the BBC protesters “poured in” along the main road north of Yangon, mainly younger men and women and many dressed in the red colour of the National League for Democracy (NLD), the ousted party run by Myanmar's deposed leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

It’s not yet known whether the shots heard are from live bullets or other, less lethal munitions designed to break up the crowd.

Ms Suu Kyi was deposed by the military at the start of February over allegations of election rigging, and has since been charged for possessing allegedly illegally imported walkie talkies.

Ms Suu Kyi’s party, the NLD, secured a landslide victory in the country’s November election, winning more than 80 per cent of the votes.

The military is yet to present convincing evidence to back up their claims of electoral fraud.

Association of Southeast Asian Nations Parliamentarians for Human Rights chair Charles Santiago said the charges were “an absurd move by the junta to try to legitimise their illegal power grab”.

Myanmar President Win Myint has also been detained and accused of breaking coronavirus rules while meeting with people on the campaign trail.

Ms Suu Kyi’s Australian Adviser Sean Turnell was recently detained as well, but not before sending a message to Reuters staff at a bureau in the country.

“I guess you will soon hear of it, but I am being detained,” the Macquarie University economics professor said in a message he signed off with a smiling face emoji.

“Being charged with something, but not sure what,” Prof Turnell added.

“I am fine and strong, and not guilty of anything.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne issued a statement saying the government is “deeply concerned” about reports of Australians being arbitrarily detained in Myanmar.

“We are providing consular assistance to a number of Australians in Myanmar. In particular, we have serious concerns about an Australian who has been detained at a police station,” Ms Payne said.

“We have called in the Myanmar Ambassador and registered the Australian Government’s deep concern about these events.”

Our embassy in the country’s biggest city Yangon has been contacting Australians in the country to check on their safety “to the extent communications allow”.

The military recently took steps to close down the internet in the country, but low resolution footage appears to have still made it on to Facebook, despite bans on the platform as well as Twitter and Instagram.

Juli Briskman, woman who flipped off Donald Trump now sits on Local Board of Supervisors overseeing legislation, spending her time scrubbing history and making Gun ordinances for Algonkian District of Loudoun County, Virginia.

Briskman, who went viral after a snap of her raising her middle finger at the former US President from the seat of her bicycle, was fired from her job with a government contractor as a result of the gesture.

Ms Briskman said her company’s HR department told her initially it would not be a problem. But on the Tuesday after her hand gesture went gangbusters, she was given the boot, with her employer saying she had violated their social media policy.

“They walked me to my desk and then out the building. I was even told I could not get photos of my children from my computer before they bleached it,” Ms Briskman said at the time.

“It was like I had embezzled a couple of million company dollars.”

Ms Briskman told reporters she was “really frustrated” at her country’s president on the day the photo was taken.

“It was just sort of like, here I am on my bike. I’ve got nothing, right?” she told The Guardian.

“This is pretty much the only thing I had to express my opinion. He wasn’t going to hear me through bulletproof glass … So that was pretty much how I could say what I wanted to say, right?

“The only thing I had at my disposal that day was my finger,” she said.

The exhaustive ordeal, which included a lawsuit against her former employer, ultimately sparked Ms Briskman’s ambitions to enter politics and opened “a lot of doors”, according to the passionate Democrat.

She is now on the Local Board of Supervisors that oversees legislation for leisure facilities in her county.

Juli Briskman, who flipped off Donald Trump is on Local Board of Supervisors overseeing legislation, scrubbing history and making Gun ordinances for Algonkian District of Loudoun County, Virginia.
