NASA calls off Artemis 1 moon rocket launch over engine cooling issue
With NASA unable to launch today, the agency could try for one of at least two back-up days on which to fly Artemis 1 on its mission to the moon. If the agency solves the Engine No. 3 issue, it could try to launch again Friday (Sept. 2) or Sept. 5, weather permitting. If NASA cannot launch by Sept. 5, its next launch try would likely be in October, mission managers have said. Launch opportunities are limited by the stage of the moon and lighting conditions upon reentry, among other considerations. "The earliest opportunity, depending on what happens with this engine bleed, would be Sept. 2," Nail said. "However, we will await a determination of what the plan is to go forward."

On August 29-31, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba will visit Sweden and the Czech Republic to discuss increasing sanctions pressure on Russia. "At the behest of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba will visit the Kingdom of Sweden (August 29) and the Czech Republic (August 30-31) with the aim of consolidating international support for Ukraine and increasing sanctions pressure on Russia," the statement reads. Kuleba will be received by Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson in Stockholm. Housing Inventory August 29th Update
Inventory is still increasing, but the inventory build has slowed over the last two months. Still, inventory is increasing faster than in 2019 at this time of year. Here are the same week inventory changes for the last four years: 2022: +3.3K, 2021: -0.4K, 2020: -2.1K, 2019: +2.8K
Inventory bottomed seasonally at the beginning of March 2022 and is now up 130% since then.More than double!Altos reports inventory is up 28.7% year-over-year and is now 26.8% above the peak last year. As of August 26th, inventory was at 555 thousand (7-day average), compared to 551 thousand the prior week. Inventory was up 0.6% from the previous week. Inventory is still historically low. Compared to the same week in 2021, inventory is up 28.7% from 431 thousand, however compared to the same week in 2020 inventory is down 6.2% from 592 thousand. Compared to 3 years ago, inventory is down 42.4% from 963 thousand.

Pakistan Says IMF Approves $1.17 Billion Bailout to Avert Near-Term Default
Pakistan said it secured a $1.17 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund to avert an imminent default as political turmoil and deadly flooding threaten the South Asian economy.
Finance Minister Miftah Ismail announced the IMF board’s approval of the funds in a post on his Twitter account on Monday. The funds will be key to stabilizing Pakistan’s economy after surging energy costs eroded the nation’s foreign-exchange reserves and stoked Asia’s second-fastest inflation. The nation needs $31 billion in total financing through June 2023, while it is projected to have secured $38 billion. The IMF decision will also pave the way for more aid from friendly nations.
Pakistan has had a tumultuous track record with the IMF. The government secured a bailout program in 2019 only to have it stall several times due to Islamabad’s failure to meet some loan conditions. Taliban closes in on gasoline deal with Russia
Taliban in negotiations with Russia for wheat, gas and oil supplies. The Taliban administration is in the final stages of talks in Moscow over the terms of a contract for Afghanistan to purchase gasoline and benzene from Russia, Afghan commerce ministry officials told Reuters.
Habiburahman Habib, the spokesperson for Afghanistan's Ministry of Commerce and Industry, confirmed that an official delegation chaired by the commerce ministry was in the Russian capital and finalizing contracts for supplies of wheat, gas and oil. A source from the office of the Minister of Commerce and Industry told Reuters technical officials from his ministry and the Ministry of Finance had stayed in Moscow to work on the contracts after a ministerial delegation visited this month.
"We are working on text of contract, (we have) almost agreed on gasoline and benzene," said the official, adding they expected it to be finished soon.Spokespeople at Russia's foreign and energy ministries did not respond to requests for comment.
The contracts come after a Taliban delegation led by the acting commerce minister visited Russia in mid-August to hold talks on trade.
If completed, the contract would be a sign of foreign countries increasingly doing business with the Taliban, despite its administration not being officially recognized by any international government since it took control of the country after U.S. troops withdrew around a year ago. It comes as the United States tries to convince other nations to cut down on use of Russian oil, saying the initiative is aimed at curbing the oil revenue that Moscow uses to finance its invasion of Ukraine.
Both Russia and Taliban-led Afghanistan face economic sanctions from international governments, including the United States.
No foreign government, including Moscow, formally recognizes the Taliban administration and Afghanistan's banks have been hampered by the sanctions which have left most international banks unwilling to carry out transactions with Afghan banks.
The official source said they had a plan for how payments would be made but declined to provide details on whether official banking channels would be used.
Despite Afghanistan's central bank assets being frozen, its banking sector hampered by sanctions, and a lack of formal recognition from abroad, some countries are doing business with Kabul, helping it access global markets amid a domestic economic crisis. Pakistan is receiving thousands of tons of coal from Afghanistan a day, which the former has welcomed to ease its energy crisis. Transactions are carried out by private businesses in each country, and the Taliban administration collects millions of dollars in customs duties on the coal exports.

Treasury Secretary is in complete ~~Apparent~~ (FIFY) Violation of Requirement to Mint Silver Eagles in Quantities “Sufficient to Meet Public Demand”.
Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV) is calling out U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and U.S. Mint Director Ventris Gibson for the “long-running production slowdown” in the Silver American Eagle bullion coin program that has caused “shortages and dramatically higher market prices for this iconic silver coin as compared to its peers worldwide.” Many Americans have sought to hedge against high rates of inflation by acquiring hard assets, including gold and silver. Overall market demand for bullion coins, bars, and rounds has risen to higher levels than seen in recent years, if not ever. Most gold and silver bullion forms do not carry much markup (also known as “premium”) over the actual market value of the metal itself, thereby enabling investors to acquire more precious metal for each dollar they invest.
However, this has not been the case with the Silver American Eagle since 2020, causing it to become known in some circles as “the most overrated silver coin in the world.” In a letter dated August 25, Mooney cited 31 U.S. Code § 5112(e) which states, “the [Treasury] Secretary shall mint and issue, in qualities and quantities that the Secretary determines are sufficient to meet public demand coins which— (1) are 40.6 millimeters in diameter and weight 31.103 grams; (2) contain .999 fine silver; (3) have a design— (A) symbolic of Liberty on the obverse side; and (B) of an eagle on the reverse side.” But, as Mooney pointed out, the U.S. Mint has only made 11.6 million ounces of the silver bullion coin available to the public through July 2022 – barely half of what has been supplied through the first seven months of prior years when demand has been similarly strong. “This shortage in U.S. Mint production has apparently led to extremely high market-based premiums on Silver Eagles (as high as 70% over the silver melt value) – even as comparable items produced by other sovereign mints and private mints were not beset by such shortages or historically high premiums,” Mooney wrote. “The high costs resulting from the U.S. Mint production shortage directly harm U.S. citizens wishing to avail themselves of a U.S. legal tender means of protecting their financial security from the effects of inflation.”
Rep. Mooney is demanding Yellen and Gibson provide answers to the following questions:
1.Does the Secretary believe the Silver American Eagle coin is being produced in “qualities and quantities that… are sufficient to meet public demand”? (The short answer is no or why would there be a 70% premium with them?)
2.Why is only a single supplier currently allowed to (or willing to) provide the U.S. Mint with silver blanks for its Silver Eagle program? (they don't have a single supplier but the biggest supplier is Sunshine Mint and they used to do all this themselves by buyinf the 1000 and 5000/oz bars to process-all the other Sov.mints that use Sunshine as supplier are NOT having these issues and the premiums for there pmost produced coins are nowhere near what they are on US Mint Silver Eagles)
3.Given its statutory mandate to amply supply these coins to the public, why doesn’t the U.S. Mint have a policy to build a reserve of silver blanks during periods of slower demand in order to create a buffer for periods of higher demand? (see above-they don't make them any longer they rely on outside suppliers-and why they don't do this you'll have to ask Janey but bshe won't and doesn't have to tell you)
4.Has the U.S. Mint examined the practices of other sovereign mints – such as Britain’s Royal Mint, Australia’s Perth Mint, the Austrian Mint, or the Royal Canadian Mint – to learn from their relative success in meeting high public demand for their own silver coins? If so, what were the resulting findings or recommendations? (See answers from 2 and 3)
5.What actions are currently being undertaken to address the Mint’s production problems (which reportedly extend beyond the Silver American Eagle coin program) and when will the U.S. Mint once again be able to fulfill its mandate to meet public demand? If they wre directed by Janet Yellen to do ANYTHING or NOT do something they will not tell you since those decisions are not reveiwable by any court or jurisdiction-see above)

Here is some speculation on Bank of America and Warren Buffet as he did amass a sizeable phyzz portion in the 1900's and depending on who you believe either sold it willingly for a nice profit or it was taken off of him, held onto and then used to 'start' SLV-regardless of that the bottom line is that prior to 2021 Bank of America didn't even have a metals trading desk and all of a sudden they take on a short term lease (1.2B ozs total iirc) from JP Morgan and Buffet began getting rid of most his bank stocks and buying Bank of America. That physs Silver is gong somewhere so just some speculation as "UncleWarren-Mr Crony Capitalist himself did this right (the silver purchase in the 90's around the same time that the Clinton Administration closed down the Y-12 facility (Mahhattan Project) since they needed the physical silver that was still located there -it is a complete lie that they returned all of it back to the US Treasury or DoD Reserves-they actually had to use some from there to battle the Hunt Brothers in 1979-80 and issued coins via the US Assay Office-once that (Manhattan Project) was finished although they produced paperwork that said they did. That why the CEO of Bear Stearns basically was MIA when all that going on (he went to a bridge tournament) as he knew it was over and one of the main reasons was that (plus (((they))) wanted to take BS out becasue they did not pony up for the Long Term Capital Management bailout in the late 90's even though they were a large part of it-they simply said "sowee we're not gonna pay into that" so several years later the payback . You prolly know all about Bear Stearns and JPM but it was also at Drexel-Burnham-Lambert for a while...that how Michael Milken retained his "cred" in public cause even after that place screwed the pooch they made him a celebrity-mostly because of holding that for a while and managing it all. Once they demonetized Ag with that 1900 gold act they made the decision to use it for industrial metal going forward-even though there wasn't the YUGE demand it would eventually have later..but they knew and once you made that decision you could never go back...ever plus at the time that was a no brianer-way moar in ground and mined and cheaper.

The Biden administration announced Tuesday that it is erasing $1.5 billion in federal student loan debt for the 79,000 borrowers who attended the now-defunct Westwood College after officials discovered the school exaggerated the job prospects of its graduates.
Any federal student loans used to attend the for-profit school over a 13-year stretch will be canceled, the Education Department says, with the financial decision coming just days after President Biden unveiled a plan to forgive $10,000 in federal student debt for all borrowers with incomes less than $125,000 a year or $250,000 per household. The Westwood College cancellation applies to all students who attended the chain from Jan. 1, 2002, through Nov. 17, 2015, when the college stopped enrolling new students before its 2016 closure. Students will not need to apply for the relief. Before its closure, Westwood operated 15 campuses in California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois and Virginia, along with online programs. With help from attorneys general in Colorado and Illinois, federal officials found that the college routinely misled prospective students about their chances of getting good jobs after graduating.
In its marketing materials, the chain advertised employment rates and salary outcomes that were "grossly inflated," the Education Department found. It also promised to help graduates pay their bills if they couldn’t find jobs within six months after graduating — a pledge officials say wasn’t kept. Chinese Copper Giant Maike Seeking Help on Liquidity Issues
One of China’s most influential commodities traders is seeking government aid to shore up its finances, in the latest sign of how a sagging economy is squeezing the country’s private sector.
He Jinbi, founder and chairman of Maike Metals International Ltd., has asked the government and financial institutions for help after liquidity issues forced his company to delay some payments for imported copper, he told Bloomberg News. BHP Group, the world’s biggest miner, is among suppliers that are diverting shipments away from Maike for now, according to people familiar with the matter.
He founded Maike nearly three decades ago trading copper wires, and he is one of the most well-known names in China’s copper industry. The commodities sector in China has been under stress this year as a deepening property crisis and regular Covid-19 outbreaks stifle demand. Private entrepreneurs have also borne the brunt of tighter credit.
Maike is suffering “temporary difficulties in logistics, transportation and product sales due to Covid flareups in China,” He said by phone. It has delayed payments on some cargoes, and some suppliers have canceled deliveries due to concerns over the company’s liquidity, He said.
The cash crunch has prompted BHP and Chile’s Codelco, the biggest global copper producer, to pause sales to Maike. BHP in Melbourne didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Santiago-based Codelco declined to comment. BHP halted the shipment of a 10,000-ton cargo of Chilean copper cathodes that was due for September delivery to Maike in China, according to two of the people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. Codelco has also diverted at least two cargoes and has temporarily stopped shipping to Maike, one person said.
The problems are only affecting 10,000 to 20,000 tons of refined copper, which accounts for a very small portion of the company’s supply, Maike’s chairman said Fastmarkets first reported Thursday that Maike was facing a liquidity crunch and was late in making payments for contracted copper deliveries from suppliers. Russia OKs Japan trader's investment in Sakhalin 2 energy project
Russia has authorized investment by Japanese trading house Mitsui & Co. in the Sakhalin 2 oil and gas energy project, the company said Wednesday, a step toward resource-poor Japan procuring stable supplies of liquefied natural gas.
Moscow on Tuesday approved a plan for Mitsui to hold a 12.5 percent stake in the project's operator, newly set up by Russia in early August, the trading house said. The holding would be equivalent to Mitsui's stake in the former operator of the project. Mitsubishi Corp., another major Japanese trading company, owned 10 percent of the previous firm and has said it also intends to take the same stake in the new company. The Tokyo-based firms' moves to invest in the new operator, set up by Moscow to take control of the natural resources project in the Russian Far East, come as Japan aims to secure a stable supply of LNG amid market disruptions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The new operator, established on Aug. 5 under a decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin, has offered the same contractual terms to energy companies as under the previous entity. An affiliate of Russian energy firm Gazprom has a controlling stake in the new operator. Gazprom had a stake of around 50 percent in the old operator, while British oil major Shell PLC held an approximately 27.5 percent share in the predecessor before deciding to exit over Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
The Sakhalin 2 project accounts for around 9 percent of Japan's LNG imports and is viewed as important by Tokyo.
