I know this is off topic for today, but for a diversion from the crazy leftist mob.

FEC question = can a candidate draw a salary from their campaign account funds?

Yes, why yes, they can!

Let's do some math.

Bernie Sanders

Official Senator salary is earned income.

$174,000

Office of President salary $400,000

His campaign can offer him $174k additional money (if) that was all he claimed on his taxes.

Book royalties are also considered 'earned income' in most cases. (not all but let's assume Bernies' are for the sake of this math exercise)

$174k Senator Salary

  • $381k Book royalties (2018 number)

= $555k

Compare $400k and $555k, the lesser of these two numbers is $400k

Bernies campaign (if he runs for a full 12 mths)

can pay him a salary of $400k

That is in addition to his govt salary.

That likely explains his peak here in 2016 besides book royalties.
