Maxine Waters Blames Trump for ‘Escalating Killings’ After Shootings

 

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) said Sunday that she believes President Trump is to blame for the recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

“Enough is enough. America, when are you going to demand action on guns?” she wrote on Twitter. “Another senseless mass killing by a young white nationalist. Trump, you cannot escape accepting blame for these escalating killings in our country that are motivated by your race baiting!”

 

Presidential candidate and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) echoed Waters’ statements Sunday during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, and said he believes the president is a white nationalist, Breitbart News reported.

Navy Drops Case Against SEAL Eddie Gallagher’s Platoon Commander

 

The Navy has decided to drop all charges against Lt. Jacob Portier, the former platoon commander for Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, who was recently found not guilty of killing a wounded ISIS fighter in a high-profile case that exposed poor preparation and potentially unethical practices by Navy prosecutors in the case.

Portier was accused of failing to report Gallagher’s alleged war crimes up the chain of command. Gallagher was accused of stabbing a wounded ISIS fighter to death, as well as shooting at innocent civilians while on deployment to Iraq in 2017.

 

A small group of junior SEALs who had deployed with Gallagher made the allegations against Gallagher and Portier. However, during Gallagher’s trial, the prosecution’s star witness, another SEAL, admitted to killing the ISIS fighter, destroying the prosecution’s case. The defense said the prosecution had simply not asked the SEAL how the fighter died.

 

Even before that, the prosecution had suffered other problems — including being caught sending spy software to Gallagher and Portier’s defense attorneys and a journalist without a warrant. The lead prosecutor was dismissed just weeks before the trial over the spying.

Despite the prosecution’s missteps, the Navy awarded the prosecutors and their staff with Navy Achievement Medals at a ceremony where the Navy judge in Gallagher’s case and Portier’s case attended. President Trump on Wednesday ordered the Navy to rescind those awards.

 

On Thursday, the Navy announced it was dropping charges against Portier.

“Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson today dismissed all charges in the case of Lt. Jacob Portier,” said the statement.

Texas Seeks Death for El Paso Shooter, Feds Treating as ‘Domestic Terrorism’

 

El Paso prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty against the man who allegedly killed 20 people and wounded 26 others in the mass-casualty shooting on Saturday. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says they will treat the shooting “as domestic terrorism.”

Police have not formally released the name of the alleged killer but many news outlets have released a name of a suspect in the shooting. El Paso County District Clerk court records obtained by Breitbart Texas on Sunday morning indicate that prosecutors filed a capital murder charge.

 

“We will seek the death penalty,” El Paso County District Attorney Jaime Esparza told reporters in a press conference on Sunday morning. “We will hold him accountable.”

 

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas John F. Bash said, “We are treating this as domestic terrorism.” The federal prosecutor said the suspect could also face federal hate crimes and firearms charges. “We will deliver swift justice,” he added.

Breitbart Texas provided live-wire coverage of the events surrounding the active shooter situation in El Paso beginning Saturday morning. The shooter allegedly opened fire on customers at a Walmart filled with back-to-school shoppers. Within a few minutes, the shooter allegedly killed 20 people and sent 26 others to area hospitals — including at least two children. The Cielo Vista shopping area is well known to be a place where Mexican nationals also shop after legally crossing the border from Mexico. At least three of the dead were Mexican nationals, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said in a Twitter video.

 

Governor Abbott promised the people of El Paso, We are going to aggressively prosecute it both as capital murder but also as a hate crime, which is exactly what it appears to be.” The governor said the thoughts, actions, and crimes allegedly committed by the shooter “are not who and what Texas is and we will not tolerate it.”

Authorities say they arrested the alleged shooter a short distance away from the Walmart and placed him into custody without incident. El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen said that none of his officers responded to the active-shooter incident within six minutes and did not fire any rounds in response to the shooting. He referenced a manifesto allegedly written by the accused shooter, calling it a “potential nexus to a hate crime.”

On Sunday morning, Chief Allen told reporters that investigators were “reasonably confident” the accused shooter is the author of the manifesto, NBC News reported.

Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) used the occasion of the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, this weekend to spread fake news Sunday about President Donald Trump’s policies and blame him for the violence.

O’Rourke, speaking to Jake Tapper of CNN on State of the Union while standing in El Paso, compared the president’s rhetoric to the Third Reich of Nazi Germany, and blamed Fox News and “the Internet” for the shooting. He also said the following:

These are white men, motivated by the kind of fear this president traffics in. The mosque in Victoria, Texas, was burned to the ground on the same day that President Trump signed his order [sic] attempting to ban Muslim travel to the United States of America [sic], when he says after Charlottesville that Klansman and white supremacists and neo-Nazis are “very fine people” [sic], the commander-in-chief is sending a very public signal to the rest of this country about what is permissible, and in fact even what he encourages to happen. So let’s connect the dots here on what is happening and why it is happening and who is responsible for this right now. … You don’t get mass shootings like these [sic], you don’t torch mosques, you don’t put kids in cages [sic] until you have a president who has given people permission to do that and that is exactly what is happening in the United States of America today.

President Trump signed his executive order banning travel from seven terror-prone countries on Jan. 27, 2017; the mosque was burned on Jan. 28, 2017, not the same day. (The Trump administration prosecuted the arsonist.)

The president’s executive order did not ban Muslims from traveling to the U.S. It focused on terror-prone countries that had been identified by the Obama administration, pursuant to congressional statute. Other Muslim countries were not affected, and the order said nothing about religion. The last version of the “travel ban” executive order — which was upheld by the Supreme Court — included non-Muslim countries such as North Korea and Venezuela.

President Trump never said “Klansman and white supremacists and neo-Nazis” were “very fine people.” As Breitbart News and others have repeatedly noted, Trump was describing non-violent protesters for and against the removal of a Confederate statue as “very fine people,” and added specifically: “I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and white nationalists because they should be condemned totally.” (Even Tapper himself has acknowledged that fact.)

Iran seized another foreign-flagged oil tanker on Sunday morning for allegedly “smuggling fuel” to unspecified Arab states, local state media reports.

Prayer has two parts and lots of folks forget the second part.

I don't think 1 makes sense, because if they're so scared they'd want to hide their intentions to ensure success of their mission (i.e., as you said, congress back in session).

 

I don't think 2 makes sense, because it requires so much extra planning, and it seems like a lot of extra work for higher chance of getting caught. Not saying impossible, just very weird and hilariously stupid if true.

TEXAS — A Lubbock man allegedly contemplating a mass shooting has been charged by criminal complaint with making false statements to a federally-licensed firearms dealer.

The potential shooting has been averted.

 

William Patrick Williams, 19, was arrested by special agents of ATF and FBI Thursday, following a brief hospitalization.

According to a criminal complaint, on July 13, Mr. Williams allegedly told his grandmother he had recently purchased an AK-47 rifle and planned to “shoot up” a local hotel and then commit suicide by cop. Sensing he was both homicidal and suicidal, she convinced him to allow her to bring him to a local hospital instead.

Mr. Williams later gave officers consent to search the room he’d rented at the hotel, where officers found an AK-47 rifle, seventeen magazines loaded with ammunition, multiple knives, a black trench coat, black tactical pants, a black t-shirt that read “Let ‘Em Come,” and black tactical gloves with the fingers cut off. Mr. Williams told officers he had laid out his weapons on the bed so that law enforcement could take custody of them.

Eight days later, ATF received the firearms transaction form (form 4473) that Williams had completed on July 11, when purchasing the AK-47. On the form, Mr. Williams listed his relatives’ address, where he no longer resided. Agents discovered that although Mr. William’s driver’s license showed the family members’ address, Mr. Williams was actually living with a roommate at a different address, following eviction by his relatives. He had allegedly misrepresented his current address on the firearms transaction form.

 

“This was a tragedy averted,” said U.S. Attorney Nealy Cox. “I want to praise the defendant’s grandmother, who saved lives by interrupting this plot, as well as the Lubbock police officers and federal agents who investigated his unlawful acquisition of a deadly weapon. If you suspect a friend or loved one is planning violence against themselves or others, do not hesitate to seek help immediately by calling law enforcement.”

“The safety of our citizens is paramount,” said Lubbock Interim Police Chief Jerry Brewer. “When events like this occur we greatly appreciate the cooperative relationships with our federal law enforcement partners that enhance our abilities to protect the community.”

“ATF is committed to preventing firearms violence. The ATF Dallas Field Division wants to thank our state, local and federal partners who cooperated in this investigation,” said ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas Field Division Craig W. Saier.

“The FBI worked closely with our partners at the ATF and Lubbock Police Department to prevent the defendant from potentially committing a violent act,” said Matthew DeSarno, Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas Field Office. “This case is a perfect example of law enforcement agencies coming together to find a solution that protected the public from harm.”

Police Responding To Explosion at Hotel Next To Nashville Airport; Multiple Injuries

NASHVILLE — Police and fire officials were on the scene of a gasoline explosion in a hotel room next to Nashville’s BNA international airport Sunday evening.

The HomeTowne Studios, Nashville Airport hotel was evacuated. The call came in around 3:30 p.m. local time.

 

WZTV reported: Witnesses say there was a loud boom and saw a man running down the hall who was burned.

Four people went to the hospital, including one person received third degree burns and is in critical injuries. They say a couple gallons of gasoline exploded in the room.

According to WSMV, witnesses said the ‘force from the blast was so powerful, it blew out windows and bent the railing.’

It was unclear why the resident had gasoline in the room to begin with.

Suspected Dayton Shooter Connor Betts’ Twitter Account Possibly Discovered

Early Sunday morning, suspected gunman Connor Betts, 24, fired a semi-automatic rifle into a popular nightlife district in downtown Dayton, Ohio. Nine people were killed, including the suspect’s sister. 27 others sustained injuries.

 

Online researchers have begun acquiring as much information about the suspected shooter before it is inevitably scrubbed from the Internet.

 

Some seem to believe Twitter account ‘Flowers for Atomsk’ (@iamthespookster) is the profile of Connor Betts.

 

The account was created in December, 2013 and has made over 10,000 tweets. It follows 1,300 other users and has 326 followers.....

Suspected Dayton Shooter Connor Betts’ Twitter Account Possibly Discovered

Early Sunday morning, suspected gunman Connor Betts, 24, fired a semi-automatic rifle into a popular nightlife district in downtown Dayton, Ohio. Nine people were killed, including the suspect’s sister. 27 others sustained injuries.

 

Online researchers have begun acquiring as much information about the suspected shooter before it is inevitably scrubbed from the Internet.

 

Some seem to believe Twitter account ‘Flowers for Atomsk’ (@iamthespookster) is the profile of Connor Betts.

 

The account was created in December, 2013 and has made over 10,000 tweets. It follows 1,300 other users and has 326 followers.....

US company says it has no plans to stop working with 8chan

 

SAN FRANCISCO — Cloudflare, the San Francisco-based company that provides internet infrastructure services to 8chan that help keep the site online, says it has no plans to stop working with the online message board that has been linked to users who are accused of at least three shootings this year.

 

The company said it has been in contact with law enforcement about Saturday’s mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, where the suspect is believed to have posted a manifesto on 8chan minutes before the attack. People accused of a synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh and shootings at two mosques in New Zealand also reportedly announced their plans on 8chan.

 

Cloudflare provides cybersecurity and other services to websites that help them to stay online. In 2017, Cloudflare pulled its services from The Daily Stormer, a Neo-Nazi website.

 

Douglas Kramer, Cloudflare general counsel and a former lawyer in President Obama’s White House, told CNN Business on Sunday that the company does not believe it should have the power to unilaterally decide what can and cannot stay on the internet, pointing out that even if Cloudflare stopped working with 8chan it could be possible for the site to still stay online.

 

The company isn’t legally required to provide its services to any website, regardless of content.

 

Kramer said Cloudflare complies with requests from law enforcement agencies and from courts relating to websites that are involved in child pornography and other illegal activity.

 

He said Cloudflare would comply with a request relating to 8chan if such a request were made, but the company would “want to see something from law enforcement or a regulator agency or a court that says, ‘We have made this decision after going through due process.'”

 

Kramer said while there are laws, regulations and processes in place for pulling online support services from websites like those used for child pornography, lawmakers and regulators have been less active in creating processes for sites like 8chan.

 

After the company stopped working with The Daily Stormer in 2017, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince questioned his own decision.

 

“You win a lot of points for firing Nazis from using your service,” Prince told CNN at the time. “But it sets a dangerous precedent when a company that most of your viewers have never heard of is effectively deciding what can and cannot be on the internet.”

 

“Without a clear framework as a guide for content regulation, a small number of companies will largely determine what can and cannot be online,” Prince wrote in a blog post at the time.

 

Cloudflare even posted a list of criticisms about its decision to its website.

 

Cloudflare sees itself as fundamentally different to services like Facebook, Kramer told CNN, because it is not involved in surfacing or moderating content.

 

“We really don’t have anything to do with content,” Kramer told CNN, “we see bit bits moving around the internet and we are one of the groups that make sure those bits move safely and securely.”

 

“Facebook sits up at the surface of the internet, forming communities, moderating those communities, figuring out what people want to see next,” he said.

 

“We recognize the tragedy of the two incidents that happened yesterday,” Kramer said, adding that Cloudflare was continuing to monitor the situation.

 

Fredrick Brennan, who created of 8chan, told CNN on Sunday that the site’s current administrators “are running it in a way that is indefensible.”

 

“If it’s going to keep on like this it should be shut down,” he said. “I don’t want to pile on but they are not doing anything to solve this. They should at least shut down the board for a week or a month after something like this. They are letting their users incite violence.”

The mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio are horrific tragedies. In the case of the El Paso shooting, the suspected terrorist gunman appears to have been inspired by the forum website known as 8chan. Based on evidence we've seen, it appears that he posted a screed to the site immediately before beginning his terrifying attack on the El Paso Walmart killing 20 people.

 

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Nearly the same thing happened on 8chan before the terror attack in Christchurch, New Zealand. The El Paso shooter specifically referenced the Christchurch incident and appears to have been inspired by the largely unmoderated discussions on 8chan which glorified the previous massacre. In a separate tragedy, the suspected killer in the Poway, California synagogue shooting also posted a hate-filled “open letter” on 8chan. 8chan has repeatedly proven itself to be a cesspool of hate.

 

8chan is among the more than 19 million Internet properties that use Cloudflare's service. We just sent notice that we are terminating 8chan as a customer effective at midnight tonight Pacific Time. The rationale is simple: they have proven themselves to be lawless and that lawlessness has caused multiple tragic deaths. Even if 8chan may not have violated the letter of the law in refusing to moderate their hate-filled community, they have created an environment that revels in violating its spirit.

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. – Thousands of people lost power as storms are continuing to move through Hampton Roads Sunday.

 

More than 40,000 customers were originally affected by the outages. As of 11:45 p.m., about 10,278 customers are still without power, according to Dominion Energy’s Outage Map.

 

Below is a list of the number of outages by city:

Hampton – 532

Isle of Wight – 22

James City – 19

Newport News – 249

Norfolk –227

Poquoson City – 0

Portsmouth –56

Suffolk – 9

Surry – 0

Virginia Beach – 7,516

According to Virginia Beach Police, the area near Virginia Beach Town Center is without power due to a transformer fire in the major distribution grid, which is located behind Mission BBQ at the end of Market Street.

 

The Virginia Beach Fire Department battalion chief said fire crews and crews with Dominion Power responded to the scene to mitigate the issue.

 

A Dominion Energy spokesperson told News 3 that people should expect to have their power restored by 3 a.m. Monday.
