North Korea fires new anti-aircraft missile in latest weapons test
North Korea launched a new anti-aircraft missile capable of hitting targets at greater distances, state media reported Friday, marking the secretive state's fourth weapons test in the past two weeks. The test was carried out by the North's Academy of Defense Science on Thursday, which also confirmed the missile's performance as well as the operation of the launcher, radar and command vehicle, according to a report in state-run Korean Central News Agency. New developments including "twin-rudder control technology" and a "double-impulse flight engine" were verified, according to the report, bringing about a "substantial increase in the rapid responsiveness and guidance accuracy of missile control system as well as the distance of downing air targets." "The comprehensive test will be of very practical significance in the prospective research and development of various anti-aircraft missile systems," the Academy of Defense Science said, according to KCNA. Pak Jong Chon, a member of the ruling Workers' Party politburo, was on hand to oversee the launch, KCNA reported. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un apparently did not attend. South Korean President Moon Jae-in has recently pushed for a declaration to officially end the Korean War. The 1950-53 conflict ended with an armistice and not a peace treaty, leaving the two Koreas technically still at war. In a speech at the United Nations General Assembly last week, Moon said an end-of-war declaration would bring "irreversible progress in denuclearization and usher in an era of complete peace." Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of Kim Jong Un, called the proposal "an interesting and an admirable idea" last week.
The launch was the latest in a series of weapons tests by Pyongyang, including the firing of a new hypersonic missile on Tuesday and long-range cruise missiles in mid-September, amid stalled talks with the United States.

SEC Reportedly Looking Into Robinhood President's Sale Of AMC Stock
Late last night, in a lengthy post summarizing all the recent fabrication spewed forth from the Citadel-Robinhood complex, we asked a simple question: Did the president of Robinhood dump all his AMC stock right before they restricted trading.
The reason for the question is that on page 4 of the amended class action lawsuit complaint (docket 21-2989) we read that ahead of Robinhood's infamous halt of trading of over a dozen memo stocks, Robinhood Securities President and COO, James (Jim) Swartwout said in an internal chat on January 26, 2021, “I sold my AMC today. FYI – tomorrow morning we are moving GME to 100% - so you are aware.” Fast forward just a few hours when, at least according to Charlie Gasparino, the answer is not only a resounding yes, but the SEC is already looking into it. According to the Fox Business reporter, "employee trading scrutinized by @SEC_Enforcement includes those by the firm's prez Jim Swartwout, who sold shares of $AMC during the meme stock frenzy." In response, the position of Robinhood - whose mission is "to to democratize finance for all" but mostly its own top employees - claims that the trades "aren't illegal."
BREAKING: Sources tell @FoxBusiness the @RobinhoodApp employee trading scrutinized by @SEC_Enforcement includes those by the firm's prez Jim Swartwout, who sold shares of $AMC during the meme stock frenzy. Sources say $HOOD's position is the trades arent illegal. Story developing— Charles Gasparino (@CGasparino) September 30, 2021
Keep a close eye on this, especially since the torrent of tweets from Robinhood's alleged partner in crime, Citadel, continues with another two this afternoon, in which the hedge fund-slash-internalizer once again went for the ad hominem, slamming "conspiracy theorists" - very much the same way it slandered this website a year ago when it threatened to sue us for claiming it was frontrunning its clients... until FINRA proved us right - for "churning baseless theories." According to Citadel, "we FIRST learned of Robinhood’s trading restrictions from posts on Twitter – as evidenced by real-time communications. Our primary Robinhood point person had to ask Robinhood if the Twitter posts on the trading restrictions were “fact or fiction?”"

Which, however, immediately prompted even more questions: how can the time stamp on the chat log say 8:39am EST when the timestamp on the Robinhood tweet is some 80 minutes later, or 9:56am.
Maybe when in a hole, Citadel should stop digging, or at least tweeting.

Japan's Takeda says 'human error' caused contamination of Moderna vaccines
Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. said on Friday that “human error” caused metal contaminants to get into Moderna Inc. COVID-19 vaccine doses, leading to a recall.
Takeda, which imports and distributes the vaccine in Japan, and Moderna said in a new report that a Spanish manufacturer discovered contaminants in some vials in July, but supplies from the same production batch were allowed to be shipped to Japan.
Japanese authorities in August suspended the use of three batches of Moderna shots containing 1.63 million doses after being notified of the contamination. Moderna conducted an investigation in partnership with Takeda and Spanish manufacturer Rovi, which operates the plant where the contamination occurred. The new report said that the problem stemmed from “incorrect assembly and was due to human error specific to visually misjudging the required 1mm gap between the star-wheel and the stopper” of machinery that put the tops on vaccine vials. A total of five sequential lots of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine manufactured at Rovi between June 27 and July 3 were investigated. The first three were shipped to Japan and later recalled after the discovery of particles, later determined to be stainless steel, inside 39 vials.
But a fourth lot failed inspection after the discovery of particles on July 2, and a fifth lot was also held back by Rovi. The problems with Lots 4 and 5 were reported to Moderna, Takeda and the health ministry, but the first three lots were released for use because they “had passed inspection and were not considered to be impacted.” In fact the incorrect set-up “led to the issue persisting throughout the series of five batches,” the investigation showed. Improved operating procedures and the use of a new precision tool will help prevent the issue from recurring, the report said.
The companies and the health ministry have said the particles of stainless steel did not pose any additional health risk.

Takeda Receives $38 Million Grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to Support Polio Eradication in Developing Countries
Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited [TSE: 4502], (“Takeda”) today announced a partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support global polio eradication in developing countries. With this funding, Takeda will develop, license and supply at least 50 million doses per year of Sabin-strain inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV) to more than 70 developing countries. The vaccine will be manufactured at Takeda’s facility in Hikari, Japan. This effort is aligned with Takeda’s strategy to utilize innovation and partnerships to address critical unmet needs in global public health, and the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. Under the terms of the agreement, the Gates Foundation will provide a $38 million grant to Takeda to leverage its innovative vaccine manufacturing platform to develop and license a safe and effective Sabin-strain inactivated polio vaccine, and make at least 50 million doses per year available at an affordable price for developing countries receiving Gavi support.

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh tests positive for COVID-19 days before new term to begin
The high court said in a press release Friday that Kavanaugh has no symptoms and has been fully vaccinated since January.
The Supreme Court says Justice Brett Kavanaugh has tested positive for COVID-19. The high court said in a press release Friday that Kavanaugh has no symptoms and has been fully vaccinated since January. Kavanaugh and all the other justices had a routine coronavirus test ahead of Friday’s ceremonial investiture for Justice Amy Coney Barrett. The court says Kavanaugh’s wife and daughters are also fully vaccinated, and they tested negative on Thursday. The court says Kavanaugh and his wife will not attend the ceremony.
The court’s new term begins on Monday and the justices are returning to the courtroom to hear arguments after an 18-month absence because of the coronavirus pandemic. They had been hearing arguments via telephone. Kavanaugh participated in the court’s private conference on Monday, when he and his colleagues met at the court to review thousands of appeals that accumulated over the summer.
He also took part Wednesday in an annual three-mile run for charity in Washington that included other judges, elected officials, government workers and reporters.

Canadian mogul Peter Nygard has agreed to extradition to U.S.
Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard has agreed to be extradited to the U.S. to face charges of racketeering and sex-trafficking, a Canadian government lawyer said during a court hearing Friday in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Nygard, 80, was arrested late last year and charged with trafficking dozens of women and underage girls for sex over 25 years. If convicted, Nygard could spend the rest of his life in prison. He has denied the charges. U.S. prosecutors claim Nygard used the resources of his company, Nygard International Partnership, to help him control women through the use of surveillance and physical restraint. Nygard hosted “pamper parties” at his properties in Marina del Rey, California, and at his home in the Bahamas, where guests were plied with food, drinks, and spa treatments, according to a U.S. indictment. He used employees and “girlfriends” to let victims know he was interested in having sex with them, paying them in cash, prosecutors said. Some unwilling participants were drugged or coerced into sex with Nygard and his friends, the U.S. claims. Nygard has been held in a jail outside Winnipeg since his arrest in December. He has been unsuccessful in attempts to win bail and has been fighting the U.S. extradition request. Born in Finland, Nygard founded his namesake company in 1967. Nygard International, once the largest producer of women’s clothing in Canada, filed for bankruptcy protection in March 2020.
The case is: U.S. v. Nygard, 20-cr-00624, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York (Manhattan).

European gas prices hit all-time highs as Russian flows slump

Gazprom books just a third of Yamal-Europe Oct pipeline capacity

Dutch TTF prices hit all-time high

Nord Stream 2 is not a quick solution, Uniper says
European gas prices surged to all-time highs on Friday as Russia kept a tight lid on supply, signalling further price pressures on European consumers heading into the winter heating season.
Russian gas supplies via the Yamal-Europe pipeline fell on Friday by almost 77% from Thursday, according to data from grid operator Gascade, as Kremlin-controlled Gazprom booked only a third of its available capacity for October. The drop comes at a critical juncture for Europeans who are facing surging utility bills amid a fight for supply. “Gazprom’s decision not to book for October the full capacity available at one of the main pipelines that delivers gas to Germany poses an increased tightening risk to north-western European gas balances and, hence, further upside risk to TTF prices this winter,” Goldman Sachs said in a note.
The November gas price at the Dutch TTF hub, a European benchmark, hit an all-time high of 97.73 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) earlier on Friday, up around 400% this year, before easing slightly. Demand for gas has soared as the post-pandemic recovery meets low inventories with stiff competition for supplies from Asian buyers - China, for example, is seeking more liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes despite record prices as its own winter season starts. Nonetheless Gazprom has come in for criticism. A group of European Parliament lawmakers has asked the European Commission to investigate the company’s role in the rising prices, saying its behaviour had made them suspect market manipulation and an “effort to pressure” Europe to agree a fast launch of its Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The Kremlin reiterated on Friday that Gazprom, whose gas exports outside the former Soviet Union rose 15.3% year on year in the first nine months of 2021, was meeting all its contract obligations in full. “Gazprom is supplying gas in accordance with customers’ requests under contract obligations,” the company said in separate emailed comments on Friday.
German utility Uniper, one of Gazprom’s biggest clients, confirmed Russia was fulfilling all its contract obligations to it.
