Absolutely. If the letter isn't from the same court that issued the summons, it doesn't matter what a letter from the NYPD says. Take the letter to court, plead not guilty, give a copy to the judge, and get a trial date. If legit the DA might decide to drop charges as his only witness, the arresting officers, will provide testimony against the charge.

Even if it's a letter from the court, always show up at the clerk's office at date/time of the summons.
