Reality is that low income people have to rent because buying a house/apartment is way too expensive for them, even if they took a debt loan which runs for the next 60 years from the bank - which in fact would be a really stupid thing to do, because the bank owns your shit immediately as soon as you can't pay up and you keep the debt here (that's Europe ur-rope for you, in US that works differently).
