109 Migrants Apprehended in Human Smuggling Stash House, Tractor-Trailer Incidents

Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 110 migrants in a 24-hour period in two separate human smuggling interactions. One involved a human smuggling stash house in Laredo, Texas. The second involved a tractor-trailer interdiction at an interior immigration checkpoint.

Laredo North Station Border Patrol agents assigned to the Interstate 35 interior immigration checkpoint observed a tractor-trailer approaching for inspection during the early afternoon of July 21. The agents referred the driver to a secondary inspection station after a K-9 alerted to the possible presence of drug or human cargo in the trailer. A search of the trailer led to the discovery of 58 smuggled migrants, according to information obtained from Laredo Sector Border Patrol officials.

The agents identified the 58 migrants as having come to the U.S. from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. Agents arrested the U.S. citizen driver and the 58 migrants on human smuggling and immigration violations.

33 Migrants Found in Trucks in Failed Human Smuggling Attempts

Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended 33 migrants they found in cargo areas of commercial trucks in two separate incidents. The agents found 13 migrants in the cargo area of one truck and 20 more in a second. Additionally, agents rescued a Guatemalan woman in Brooks County, Texas, who had been abandoned by human smugglers.

Agents assigned to the Javier Vega, Jr. Immigration Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 77 on July 20 observed a box truck approaching for inspection. During an initial inspection and interview, a K-9 alerted to the possible presence of drug or human cargo in the back of the truck, according to information received from Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol officials.

The agent referred the driver to a secondary inspection area. A team of agents unlocked the rear cargo area and discovered 20 migrants locked inside, officials reported.

A few minutes later, another box truck approached the same checkpoint. A K-9 alerted to the cargo area of the truck causing agents to refer the driver to a secondary inspection station. This time, agents found 13 migrants locked inside.

Under Title 42 coronavirus protection protocols put in place by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, it is likely all of the migrants were expelled to Mexico within hours of their apprehension. Officials did not disclose the nationality or other demographic information about the migrants or the disposition of the two drivers.

Gov't Says Man Has Tested Positive for COVID, He Says He Has Never Been Tested

If you’re going to count someone among those who’ve tested positive for COVID-19, it helps if he’s been tested in the first place.

This goes without saying, one would think. However, the case of Brock Ballou shows how bureaucratic sloppiness has infected our COVID-19 response.

According to WSMV-TV in Nashville, Ballou — a Mt. Juliet, Tennessee resident — knew he was potentially at risk for infection by the coronavirus. One of his co-workers had it and he was expecting a call from a contact tracer.

What he wasn’t expecting is that the contact tracers would be telling him he was listed as having COVID-19 — without being tested.

“She specifically said – I’m looking at it right here – you tested positive – this is a follow-up call to see how your symptoms are,” Ballou told WSMV.

All right, so that’s one call, right? Well, it wasn’t just that.

There were two more days of calls, Ballou said, both with similar messages.

“[The contact tracer] said, ‘I’m still seeing that you’re positive. Courtesy call – checking your symptoms,’” Ballou said.

Was this a case of mishearing the person on the other end of the line?

“I’m 100 percent sure that’s what she said,” Ballou said.

“She was looking right at it; she told me I’m in the system – looking right at it that you’re showing positive.”

Ballou’s problem is probably the same as yours, he wonders how he can trust the numbers coming out of the state if he’s being counted positive without actually taking a test. (Stories about inflated numbers of deaths being attributed to COVID-19 are becoming all too common.)

“I said, ‘I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s wrong,'” Ballou said.

“I’m just another number when I’m not.”

According to WSMV, Ballou provided three phone numbers to the station where he said the calls came from. All three trace back to workers with the Tennessee Department of Health, WSMV reported.

Ballou told the station he was told by the state that the calls were made to him by a third-party contractor.

The health department told WSMV it’s investigating the case.

“I can also tell you there is no concern with our count of cases in regard to our reporting of those who test positive,” a spokeswoman said in a statement, according to WSMV. “Those entries are based on lab results, not on information provided from the monitoring team.”

Ballou’s case might be unusual, but it’s not alone.

As WWSB-TV in Sarasota, Florida, reported Friday, Florida resident Mindy Clark said she also had received a phone call informing her she’d tested positive for the coronavirus when she had never been tested at all.

Clark said she had driven to a drive-thru testing site, but left the line before she got swabbed because she realized it was supposed to only be for those who were showing potential sympoms.

In an interview with WWSB, Jay Wolfson, a professor of health and medicine at the University of South Florida, said that might have been caused by a quirk in the testing. Motorists in line at some drive-thru testing sites are registered along with their vehicle’s place in line, he said. If one vehicle leaves before a test is administered, it could throw off results that follow.

“This is part of the testing mechanism problem. People are sitting in their cars, sometimes for hours, or standing in line, six feet apart sometimes for hours. You’re registered though, you’re number 15 in line, and you are Jay Wolfson,” he said. “If Jay Wolfson says he can’t wait any longer and he leaves, it will get number 15 and now get Rebecca Fernandez, who was standing behind him, and she tests positive, and then everyone from then on gets the wrong results. There has to be a better way to do this.”

That’s a different issue from Ballou’s, but clearly, mistakes are being made.

Cases like Brock Ballou’s, whether or not they end up in the official COVID-19 tallies, might not make that much of a difference in terms of the numbers — at least at the moment. However, it’s indicative of how our systems for reporting cases of the novel coronavirus simply haven’t evolved quickly enough to keep pace with the problem that we face.

The extrapolation that can be made in Ballou’s case, if his situation wasn’t a one-off mistake, is that contact tracers made the sloppy, lazy assumption there was a cluster of people with the novel coronavirus because those individuals came into contact with a single person.

You can imagine the problems this would create if these are the shortcuts we’re going to take. At the moment, the Tennessee Department of Health says it’s investigating — and hopefully, it will be public about the results. However, the fact that the story exists at all isn’t a good sign for our ability to accurately track this disease.

Chinese Consulate In Houston Was ‘Massive Spy Center,’ FBI Probes Chinese Army Suspects In 25+ Cities

Top U.S. officials said in the hours following the revelation that the United States ordered the Chinese General Consulate in Houston to close that the move was carried out because the facility was a “massive spy center” that was stealing information from Americans and running influence operations in the U.S.

“The United States will not tolerate the PRC’s (People Republic of China) violations of our sovereignty and intimidation of our people, just as we have not tolerated the PRC’s unfair trade practices, theft of American jobs, and other egregious behavior,” the State Department said in a statement Tuesday. “We have directed the closure of PRC Consulate General Houston, in order to protect American intellectual property and American’s [sic] private information.”

The State Department said Wednesday that China had been engaging “for years in massive illegal spying and influence operations throughout the United States against U.S. government officials and American citizens.”

Assistant Secretary of State David Stilwell said the move to close the facility was “long overdue” and that the alleged criminal activity that the Chinese were committing at the facility had accelerated since the coronavirus pandemic, which originated in China.

Videos surfaced this week that showed Chinese officials burning classified documents after receiving notice that they were being forced out of the country.“China’s Houston consulate is a massive spy center, forcing it to close is long overdue,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said in a tweet, later adding: “China’s consulate in Houston is not a diplomatic facility. VILE: Alan Dershowitz Smears Jeffrey Epstein Victim Maria Farmer As 'Anti-Semitic

Jeffrey Epstein's former defense attorney Alan Dershowitz on Wednesday smeared Epstein victim Maria Farmer as "anti-Semitic" while she's in the middle of undergoing treatment for brain cancer and struggling to survive, let alone defend herself.

As the New York Times reported last year, Maria Farmer and her younger sister Annie were the first people to report Epstein to the FBI and NYPD all the way back in 1996.

Dershowitz on Wednesday evening posted an article he wrote for Newsmax titled, "Key Witness in Epstein Case Made Anti-Semitic Claims," where he took comments of hers condemning Ghislaine Maxwell's alleged supremacist views completely out of context and accused her of sharing "anti-Semitic canards" that sound like they came from "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion."

In one particularly hilarious example, Dershowitz said Farmer was anti-Semitic for saying Epstein and Maxwell were connected to "The Rothschilds" – even though Dershowitz himself told Fox News' Laura Ingraham on Fox News late last year that he was introduced to Epstein through Lynn Forester de Rothschild!

Farmer claimed to have evidence that the Israeli Mossad hired Jeffrey Epstein to video tape prominent American political leaders committing acts of pedophilia so that Israel could blackmail them into doing their bidding," Dershowitz said, "and that the entire conspiracy was under the protection and direction of 'The Rothschild's.'"

Dershowitz also constructed this quote of hers where he compiled multiple of her statements into one:

"They are 'Jewish supremacists'" and they are "all connected" through a mysterious organization called MEGA, which is run by Leslie Wexner who is "the head of the snake."

As a reminder, the former Prime Minister of Israel and head of Israeli Military Intelligence, Ehud Barak, was pictured hiding his face while entering Jeffrey Epstein's New York City townhouse (which was given to him for free by pro-Israel billionaire Les Wexner) in 2016.

Barak also reportedly regularly visited Epstein's other apartment building in New York (which was majority owned by Epstein's mysterious brother Mark who bought the apartments off Les Wexner) where underage girls say they were trafficked.

Nonetheless, according to Epstein-defender Alan Dershowitz, it's "paranoid drivel" (and apparently now anti-Semitic!) to suggest Epstein is connected to the Mossad.

Swedish Court Convicts Somali Migrant for Raping Nine-Year-Old Girl

A Swedish court has convicted and sentenced a Somalian migrant to 11 years in prison after he raped a nine-year-old girl at knifepoint earlier this year, his second child rape conviction in three years.

Somalian migrant Ahmed M., who became a Swedish citizen in 2014, attacked the nine-year-old on April 15th in the municipality of Norrköping when she was on her way home from school.

Ahmed M. dragged the child into a nearby bush, beat her and threatened the girl with a knife. He then dragged her into a forested area where he raped her. The 39-year-old is even said to have threatened to kill the girl and her family if she told police, Nyheter Idag reports.

“Inside the forest, he took off her clothes and smeared clay all over her… He also forced her to put water and clay in her mouth and wanted her to swallow,” the court heard.

The 39-year-old attacked her while he was on probation for another conviction for raping a 12-year-old in 2017. He lured the girl into a basement and threatened to kill her with a knife before raping her. In both cases, the Somalian migrant wore plastic gloves.

While he was sentenced to 21 months in prison for the 2017 rape case, Ahmed M. was only in jail for just over a year before he was released. The newspaper reports that because he became a Swedish citizen six years ago, he could not be deported after committing his first rape of a child.

The cases are just the latest to involve migrants or asylum seekers sexually assaulting children in Sweden.

Earlier this year, a 20-year-old Afghan migrant was prosecuted for sexually abusing a 15-year-old, the daughter of the family he was staying with at the time.

Last year in October, a migrant in his 20s was sentenced to just three years in prison for raping an 11-year-old and allegedly getting the child pregnant twice.

185 Bodies Found in Cartel-Dug Mass Graves in One Mexican State

The number of bodies found in mass graves by Mexican authorities rose to 185 as the search continues. Authorities searched in one of three mass graves used by a ruthless drug cartel to dispose of their victims.

The mass graves are just two of several cartel killing fields and warehouses in the state of Jalisco where authorities found deceased victims during the past two years. Mexico’s Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion continues to use extreme violence and social media videos to spread fear throughout the nation and continue to openly challenge the Mexican government’s authority.

The mass grave search efforts continue in the city of Tlajomulco, Jalisco, in an area known as El Mirador 1 and 2. In the first Mirador, authorities found 50 bodies, Breitbart Texas reported at the time. In the second gravesite, just a few yards away, authorities found 104 bodies as the search continues the search for more.

The case began in November 2019 when as Breitbart Texas reported, authorities in the city of Tlaquepaque arrested 15 gunmen from Mexico’s Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion. Based on the information from the jailed gunmen, authorities learned of the location of multiple cartel killing fields and warehouses where they would take their victims, dismember them, and bury them inside black trash bags. In the first search tied to that investigation in November, authorities found 31 bodies buried in a warehouse in the El Zapote neighborhood.

The second location, El Mirador 1, yielded 50 bodies as authorities finished their search in December. Since then, authorities continued their search in El Mirador 2 and, according to El Universal, is now about 90 percent complete. Shutdowns and sanitary emergencies tied to the novel coronavirus pandemic temporarily halted the search efforts in El Mirador 2.

CJNG, the criminal organization behind these mass graves and several others throughout Jalisco, has become one of Mexico’s most feared criminal organizations as they continue to expand in a rapid fashion. Most recently, CJNG made headlines for publishing a video that showed more than 80 gunmen and several armored trucks in an apparent show of force as they praised their leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera and appeared to openly challenge Mexico’s government, Breitbart Texas reported.

UK: One Third of Babies Born to Foreign Mothers, as Fertility Rate Falls to Lowest Level Since Before World War II

The fertility rate for women under the age of 30 in England has fallen to the lowest level since 1938, with nearly one-third of babies being born to foreign mothers, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The ONS report, which was released on Wednesday, found that fertility rates declined for all age groups in England and Wales, with the exception of women over the age of 40, who saw the rate of births increase to 16.5 per 1,000 women.

The total fertility rate (TFR) for England and Wales decreased from 1.7 children per woman in 2018 to 1.65 children per woman in 2019, which is lower than all recorded years except 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Fertility rates are determined by calculating the average number of children a woman gives birth to in her lifetime. A fertility rate of 2.1 children per woman is required to maintain a country’s population.

The report also found that over a quarter of all live births (28.7 per cent) were to women born outside the United Kingdom, the highest percentage since 1969. The country with the highest number of women giving birth in the UK was Poland with 16,737 births, barely edging out Pakistani women, who recorded 16,320 births last year. (Table 1)

Pakistan also represented the highest number of fathers born outside the country, with 17,519 Pakistani men siring children in the UK last year. (Table 2A)

As a whole, there was a 2.5 per cent drop in live births in England and Wales in 2019 from the previous year, and a 12.2 per cent decrease since 2012 — the most recent peak in births in the UK.

A millionaire businessmen whose 'rough sex' excuse for why he killed his girlfriend led to the legal defence being banned in the courts will be free from jail less than halfway through his sentence.

John Broadhurst, 41, was convicted of the manslaughter of his partner Natalie Connolly, but cleared of murder after using the 'rough sex' defence, in December 2018.

But Broadhurst, of Wolverley, Worcestershire, is set to be released in the coming weeks, less than halfway through his 44-month sentence, the Express and Star reported.

Miss Connolly, a 26-year-old mother, bled to death on December 18, 2016, after an alcohol-fuelled S&M sex session with her boyfriend John Broadhurst.

Campaigners held up Miss Connolly's death as an example of why the 'rough sex' defence should be banned in the Domestic Abuse Bill.

Justice minister Alex Chalk also made reference to Ms Connolly's ordeal during a debate on the Bill earlier this month.

Christine Pelosi was temporarily banned from Twitter after appearing to support an attack on Senator Rand Paul. The Democrat House Speaker's daughter brought up the assault on him that happened in November 2017, after he mentioned his recent diagnosis. Back then, he was in his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, when his neighbor later violently attacked him due to political differences. Rene Boucher was then sentenced 30 years in prison. Pelosi responded to Sen. Mitt Romney's announcement that he was going into quarantine. This is because Paul tested positive. The people who were in contact with him are choosing to isolate themselves. Washington Post reporter Paul Kane quoted Paul's words in his tweet, stating "He told us the other day his biggest personal concern was not getting this because his wife has MS. Now he can't see her for almost two weeks." Pelosi's reply to that tweet was, "Rand Paul's neighbor was right."

Purple lightning has been captured striking an area directly behind the Statue of Liberty as New York City was hit by a dramatic thunderstorm.

The intense lightning rod was filmed from a dock on Ellis Island after the storm rolled over the city on Wednesday afternoon.

In the 21-second clip, which was posted to Twitter, the lightning blasted down behind the Statue of Liberty and lit up the surrounding city.

The National Weather Service issued a severe weather threat between 5pm and 9pm last night.

Biden Panders to Muslims: Quotes Muhammad, Says Schools Should Teach Islam

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden would like to see American children learn more about Islam in class, he said Monday.

Speaking virtually at the “Million Muslim Votes” summit, he expressed his desire to see Muslims have a greater influence over American culture.

“Look, one of the things I think is important — I wish we taught more in our schools about the Islamic faith. I wish we talked about all the great confessional faiths. It’s one of the great confessional faiths,” Biden told the summit, which was hosted by the Islamic advocacy group Emgage Action.

The former vice president has courted the Islamic vote and has been endorsed by Emgage Action.

Still, Biden told the group of Muslim Americans he intends to earn their votes by pulling back policies put in place by President Donald Trump.

Accusing Trump of promoting “Islamic-phobia,” Biden declared, “I’m here today to ask you to join me in the fight to rip this poison from our government, root and stem.”

“I’ll continue to champion the rights of Palestinians and Israelis to have a state of their own, as I have for decades, each of them a state of their own,” he said.

“If I have the honor of being president, I will end the Muslim ban on day one,” the former vice president said.

That comment was apparently a reference to the Trump administration’s restriction of entry into the U.S. of nationals from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, North Korea and Venezuela, some of which are Muslim-majority countries.

Biden also vowed to appoint Muslims to jobs in his administration if he’s elected.

“I’ll be a president who seeks out and listens to and incorporates the ideas and concerns of Muslim Americans on everyday issues that matter most to our communities,” Biden said.

“That will include having Muslim American voices as part of my administration.”

Biden also quoted Muhammad during his address.

“Hadith from the Prophet Muhammad instructs, ‘Whomever among you sees a wrong, let him change it with his hand. If he is not able, then with his tongue. If he is not able, then with his heart,’” he said.

Fox News reported Muslim Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Andre Carson of Indiana and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison signed an Emgage Action letter Monday endorsing Biden.

“Our number one goal is to remove Donald Trump from office and to replace him with someone who can begin to heal our nation,” the letter said. “A Biden administration will move the nation forward on many of the issues we care about.”

As the Israeli government prepares to annex parts of the West Bank, Jewish establishment organizations are strategizing how best to shield Israel from political consequences.

In the same week that Jason Isaacson, the American Jewish Committee’s chief policy and political affairs officer, published an op-ed titled “We’ll defend annexation if needed—but here’s the thing,” the ADL appears to be formulating its own response.

A leaked ADL strategy memo obtained by Jewish Currents sheds light on how the nominal civil rights organization is preparing to address annexation’s critics.

The “stakeholders analysis memo,” which was issued by the ADL’s Government Relations, Advocacy, and Community Engagement department and marked as a draft, warns that the group will need to find a way to defend Israel from criticism without alienating other civil rights organizations, elected officials of color, and Black Lives Matter activists and supporters.

The memo suggests that the group hopes to avoid appearing openly hostile to public criticism of annexation while it works to block legislation that harshly censures Israel or leads to material consequences, such as conditioning United States military support. The ADL did not respond to requests for comment on the memo by press time.

The memo lists “eight top political and community engagement implications” annexation could have, among them: “complicate ADL’s relationship with the Tri-Caucus (the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus) and the Progressive caucus”; “pit ADL on the wrong side of the black lives matter movement”; “be used to label Israel as an occupier, racist and apartheid state”; and “challenge relationships between ADL and many civil rights organizations and coalitions.”

Of particular concern to the ADL, according to the memo, is that the group will have to find a way to credibly defend Israel from accusations that it has formalized a system of discrimination and subjugation on the basis of ethnonational identity. “

The reference to apartheid or ‘separate but equal’ systems to describe Israel will be a major political flashpoint,” the memo states. “As an organization, how ADL responds to these attacks will be critical.”

The memo proposes as “next steps” that the ADL’s communications team and executive office “game out how to respond to accusations of Israel being racist and an apartheid system and when to respond in public and when to respond in private.”

The memo suggests that the ADL hopes to avoid the kinds of public controversies that have flared over the last year and a half, such as those involving Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib.

Anne Arundel County Police Chief Timothy Altomare announced this week he is retiring after two decades with the department, citing dangerous reforms.

Altomare said he will not stand for a movement that will defang the police because he believes it will only put the officers and the public in more danger.

“I am not leaving because I want to. I am leaving because I will not be a part of a movement that endangers you or the people we are sworn to protect. You have never systemically failed the people of this county or me! Thank you! Hold your heads up and be the police. It is among the most-noble of professions. There is a movement in this nation and in this county to remove the teeth of the police. It is wrong and it will have grave and lasting effects that you will see and feel. We've all heard of offshore tax shelters, but the Panama Papers provided a detailed outline of the inner workings of one of the biggest tax shelters in the world, Mossack Fonseca. They contained nearly 40 years of information about the Panama-based law firm, including a 2015 audit showing that M.F. only knew the real identities of 204 of 14,086 companies they had assisted to incorporate in Seychelles, a collection of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean.

The amount of information in the documents is staggering, but the biggest takeaway is that major foreign political players, sports stars, and parents of the rich and famous all had shell accounts through Mossack Fonseca. The documents that were leaked to Germany's Süddeutsche Zeitung not only showed that a lot of people were up to something fishy (at the very least) but also that Mossack Fonseca was aware of the possibility that people and corporations were participating in criminal activities with the help of their offshore shelters.

Naming Names

The documents don't just include the names of wealthy business people that you've never heard of—they incriminate some of the biggest world leaders and their families. The Papers name 12 current or former world leaders, the most notable figure being Vladimir Putin. The Russian president left a $2 billion paper trail snaking through an offshore state bank, his cellist best friend, and the ski resort where his daughter was married in 2013.

President Mauricio Macri of Argentina, Iceland Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson, and British Prime Minister David Cameron are also named in the Papers. Also included is a trove of FIFA players—including Lionel Messi, captain of the Spanish club Barcelona and the Argentine national team—alongside members of the governing body of European soccer, the UEFA.

The deaths of civilians are a potentially serious problem for the Afghan government, and the Taliban warned that hitting Taliban targets could also force recently freed prisoners to return to fighting in the area.

The Afghan Defense Ministry promised to investigate reports of civilian casualties, but insisted that the military will “not spare any effort” in its ongoing military operations against the Taliban.

Mnuchin says GOP has 'fundamental' deal on $1T coronavirus relief package

The White House and Senate Republicans on Thursday reached a "fundamental agreement" on a coronavirus package, according to a top negotiator.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin — after a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and White House chief of staff Mark Meadows — said staff were now trying to finalize text of the agreement, which is expected to be released as a group of bills instead of one piece of legislation.

"We just had a very productive discussion with the leader. We do have a fundamental agreement between the White House and the Republicans in the Senate," Mnuchin told reporters.

Asked what the outstanding sticking points were, Mnuchin pointed to needing to finalize and sign off on text.

"This is obviously is complicated stuff. The teams worked late into last night. We're going to go back and review language this morning, whether it gets introduced today or not, we're still looking at the timing. But again, we have a fundamental agreement, we're just now going through language," Mnuchin said.

The top line of the bill, according to Meadows, will still be around $1 trillion, a cap that both McConnell and the White House had sought to impose on the opening Republican offer amid angst within their caucus about the impact the roughly $3 trillion already appropriated by Congress could have on the country's debt.

"We've made very good progress with our Republican colleagues. … If you look at a very comprehensive bill where you're spending $1 trillion, there's a number of legislative initiatives that we've got to go through, line by line," Meadows told reporters.

Negotiators are running up against a tight timeframe. Beefed up unemployment benefits are expected to expire next week and lawmakers need to get a deal before they leave for the August break. The Senate is scheduled to leave on August 7, leaving them roughly two weeks to get an agreement.

Meadows and Mnuchin stressed that they want an overall agreement in that timeframe, but, if they can’t get that, they floated moving the unemployment piece and funding for schools separately, arguing that those two sections face a more urgent timeline.

“Unemployment insurance ends the end of next week. We’re going to be ready to make sure that those unemployed Americans still have assistance. I don’t imagine that our Democrats across the aisle would want to stand in the way of helping those unemployed Americans receive benefits,” Meadows told reporters. “Those deadlines … on Capitol Hill always work magic.”

The forthcoming GOP proposal will include a second round of stimulus checks for individuals who make up to $75,000 per year.

Look. To answer your question, I would say, after the success of the Islamic Revolution, the motto of the (foreign) policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran was “Neither East, nor West”. However, the Islamic Republic had and still has diplomatic relations with all states except Israel and America, which we consider to be our enemies; or if we felt that a side is showing hostile behavior (towards Iran).

You used the slogan “Neither East, nor West”. The part “Neither East” existed when the Soviet Union was still a part of the global system and had its own policies, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation changed its policies. You also saw how our relations with our neighboring countries in the north have developed and become stronger.

First of all, China is neither western nor eastern, as it is located in east Asia. Well, this applies to Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and India. All of these countries are located in East Asia. We had and will always foster diplomatic relations with the aforementioned countries. Therefore, our policy did not change. China Prepares To Close US Consulate In Chengdu In Retaliation For Houston Closure

In likely retaliation for the U.S. decision to close the Chinese consulate in Houston, Beijing is reportedly planning to shut down the American consulate in Chengdu.

Chengdu is located in southwestern China and is considered a strategically important post given the U.S. interest in nearby Tibet.

Meanwhile, the U.S. and China continue to bicker over the Houston closure.

The South China Morning Post reported that David Stilwell, a senior East Asia affairs official at the U.S. State Department, characterized the Houston consulate as the “epicenter” of attempts by China’s military to send students to the U.S. in order to secure information that could upgrade Chinese military capabilities.

But Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin mocked that assertion as “nonsense.”

“In response to the unreasonable action of the United States [in Houston], China will take necessary countermeasures to protect its legitimate interest,” Wang said.

The Chinese consulate in Houston was the first of five that Beijing opened in the U.S. after relations were normalized in 1979 – followed by consulates opening in San Francisco, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Miami Increases Face Mask Penalties With Possible Jail Time For Serial Offenders

The city is issuing $100 fines for a first offense and a $500 fine for a second offense with repeat offense resulting in possible jail time. The penalties went into effect on Wednesday.

Both Miami and Miami Beach have issued face mask mandates to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, which Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said is effective.

“We’re seeing some early evidence that the mask in public rule is working, and we want to make sure it’s being adopted universally in our population,” Suarez said Thursday on CNN’s “New Day.”

Miami is enforcing the face mask mandate through city police officers, with money collected from the fines possibly going to support small businesses that have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, Suarez suggested.

Florida has over 379,600 positive cases of the coronavirus and over 5,300 COVID-19 deaths, Johns Hopkins University said.

Portland’s City Council Immediately Bars Police From Working With Federal Law Enforcement

All Portland police officers are barred from working together with federal officers, under new policies the City Council passed late Wednesday.

The resolutions say any member of the Portland Police Bureau who “provides, requests, or willingly receives operational support from militarized federal forces” will face disciplinary measures. And they block police from using force against or arresting journalists or legal observers.

Unanimously passed by Commissioners Chloe Eudaly, Ted Wheeler, Amanda Fritz, and Jo Ann Hardesty, the new rules went into effect immediately.

Wheeler, the city’s mayor and police commissioner, said in a statement late Wednesday that he was proud to cosponsor the resolutions “affirming that Portland will not coordinate with federal troops occupying our city, and that journalists will not be targeted.”

The mayor later in the day joined a crowd that included rioters attacking the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse, a federal building.

The Portland Police Association, a police union, the bureau, and the Department of Homeland Security didn’t respond to requests for comment on the resolutions.

Congress Moves to Sanction Chinese, Russian, Iranian Hackers

Congress is considering new legislation that would level sanctions on Chinese, Russian, and Iranian hackers who steal sensitive U.S. data, including new research on the coronavirus.

The legislation came the same day the Trump administration unveiled an unprecedented indictment against two Chinese hackers who the United States alleges stole proprietary American data, including coronavirus research from medical institutions. U.S. law enforcement officials said the Communist Party-backed hackers had been running state-backed espionage operations for at least the last 10 years.

Congress is now moving on the issue, with the first salvo being a bill by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) that would expand U.S. sanctions to cover those who engage in any hacks that endanger American national security. This would include Chinese hackers, as well as those serving rogue regimes like Iran and Russia—both of which have launched scores of cyberattacks on the U.S. government and officials during the past several years.

Frustration with China has been mounting among Democrats and Republicans as the Communist regime continues its coronavirus disinformation campaign and steps up cyber-espionage operations across the globe. Republicans argue that sanctions could help deter hackers, but it is unclear if Democrats would join their colleagues to forward such a measure. Both parties, however, have expressed a desire to hold China accountable for its actions.

While the Justice Department has indicted at least 38 Chinese companies and individuals for cyber-espionage operations in recent years, only two of them have been sanctioned by the Treasury Department, which is responsible for all American sanctions. GOP lawmakers seek to compel the Treasury Department to take further action against cybercriminals across the globe.

While both Iran and Russia have faced severe economic sanctions for human rights abuses and other matters, their hack attacks have gone largely unpunished by the Treasury Department. McCarthy's bill would help rectify this by requiring the federal government to issue a report that identifies the countries behind severe hack attacks and determine whether sanctions would be appropriate.

McCarthy said China must pay for its theft of American intellectual property. Since the coronavirus pandemic erupted, Chinese hackers have stepped up their attacks on the U.S. government, medical institutions, and research organizations. The Communist Party's goal is to steal this sensitive information and use it to gain a competitive edge against America. While the Trump administration has condemned this activity, it has done little to stem it—prompting a delegation of top GOP lawmakers this week to petition the White House to take concrete action.

Israel to sign agreement with vaccine company in advanced testing stages

Israel is expected to sign an agreement worth hundreds of millions of dollars with Californian company Arcturus, which is currently in the advanced testing stages of a coronavirus vaccine, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein announced on Thursday.

The company, which would be the second vaccine creator that Israel signs with following Moderna, has already had successful testing with animals and is moving into human testing and will receive Israel's funds according to the levels of success of the various stages of testing. If the company manages to produce a successful vaccine, it will provide Israel with four million.

Singapore's Health Sciences Authority approved the clinical trials for the vaccine – which will be tested in Singapore’s Duke-NUS Medical School – on Wednesday, after which the company announced that it plans on entering those human trials as soon as possible.

Lunar-COV19, the vaccine developed by Arcturus, is designed to potentially produce a low-dose and single-shot vaccine. The team working on it in Duke-NUS has worked with coronaviruses in the past, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

CNN Faults Trump For COVID-19 NY Nursing Home Deaths, Omits Cuomo’s Order

A CNN report Thursday revealed the devastation COVID-19 had on New York nursing home workers, blaming the federal government for failing to protect them. That story, “Nursing home worker deaths going unscrutinized by federal government,” however, failed to mention anything about the State’s Governor, Andrew Cuomo, and his executive order mandating that those facilities take in recovering COVID-19 patients, which was a policy that’s likely responsible for thousands of elderly deaths in the State.

Instead, CNN reporters chose to take swings at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for allowing worker deaths to be ‘underreported’ when the origin of the virus couldn’t be traced to the nursing home and for leaving the facilities without proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

“Even when deaths or imminent dangers are reported to OSHA, and federal or state regulators launch an investigation, the agency has taken few actions to improve working conditions for other employees or hold employers accountable — leaving countless workers around the country exposed to unsafe working conditions,” said the CNN report.

Cuomo’s name was not mentioned once in the article.

What CNN readers didn’t see is alarming. Cuomo’s order was made with knowledge that the elderly were one of the most vulnerable populations to the novel coronavirus. That was known from day one.

If it wasn’t known to Cuomo from expert guidance, it was clearly put by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in early March. At the time, CMS advised States to protect the elderly. Cuomo evaded that guidance and moved forward with his order in late March.

Fox News Senior Meteorologist Janice Dean, who lost her mother and father-in-laws to the deadly virus in a New York nursing home, has been outspoken against Cuomo’s order and his failure to own up to his mistakes. In a recent op-ed for USA Today, Dean wrote that initially, she accepted her family members’ deaths as a devastating toll of a pandemic difficult to contain, but, when she learned of Cuomo’s order, that thinking changed.

“At first, we didn’t blame anyone for their deaths,” Dean wrote. “This is a pandemic, and the virus is particularly dangerous for the elderly. Then we learned about the Cuomo administration’s March 25 order that recovering coronavirus patients be placed into nursing homes. The mandate also barred nursing homes from requiring incoming patients ‘to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.’”

China Successfully Launches Its First Mars Mission – Tianwen-1

On the morning of July 23rd, China launched its fully indigenous Tianwen-1 Mars rover mission.

Tianwen-1 consists of an orbiter and a lander/rover duo, a combination of craft that had never before launched together toward the Red Planet.

The ambition of Tianwen-1 is especially striking given that it’s China’s first attempt at a full-on Mars mission.

“Tianwen-1 is going to orbit, land and release a rover all on the very first try, and coordinate observations with an orbiter,” team members wrote in a recent Nature Astronomy paper outlining the mission’s main objectives. “No planetary missions have ever been implemented in this way. If successful, it would signify a major technical breakthrough.”

If nothing goes wrong, Tianwen-1 will arrive on Mars in February 2021.

The lander/rover pair will land on the planet two or three months later, somewhere within Utopia Planitia, a large plain in the planet’s Northern Hemisphere that also welcomed NASA’s Viking 2 lander in 1976.

The solar-powered rover will then spend about 90 Martian days, or sols, studying its surroundings in detail. It is approximately 40 minutes longer than one Earth day.

It will do so with six different science instruments, which the Nature Astronomy paper identified as the Multispectral Camera, Terrain Camera, Mars-Rover Subsurface Exploration Radar, Mars Surface Composition Detector, Mars Magnetic Field Detector and Mars Meteorology Monitor.

Overall, Tianwen-1 aims to take Mars’ measure in a variety of ways.

“Specifically, the scientific objectives of Tianwen-1 include: (1) to map the morphology and geological structure, (2) to investigate the surface soil characteristics and water-ice distribution, (3) to analyze the surface material composition, (4) to measure the ionosphere and the characteristics of the Martian climate and environment at the surface, and (5) to perceive the physical fields (electromagnetic, gravitational) and internal structure of Mars,” mission team members wrote in the Nature Astronomy paper.

The paper also explained the mission’s name: Tianwen means “questions to heaven,” and it was taken from the title of a poem by Qu Yuan, who lived from about 340 to 278 BCE.

Just days earlier, the UAE’s first Mars mission, and the first by any Arab state, launched on July 19th. The HOPE orbiter was launched to study the Martian atmosphere and climate, streaking into space from Japan atop an H-2A rocket.

Additionally, NASA’s next Mars rover, the 1,040 kg Perseverance, is scheduled to lift off on July 30th.

Perseverance, the centerpiece of the $2.7 billion Mars 2020 mission, will hunt for signs of ancient life inside the 28-mile-wide (45 km) Jezero Crater, which harbored a lake and a river delta billions of years ago.

All three of these missions are scheduled to arrive to Mars in February 2021.

Pompeo To Essentially Call For 'A People's Uprising' In Communist China

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is about to apply the Syria-Iran-Venezuela model to China.

But unlike these countries, which in recent years have seen US-backed covert proxy war operations attempt to foment 'mass uprisings' leading to regime change, it's likely to produce little effect on the ground, other than further enraging Beijing.

The WSJ, which has seen a copy of the State Department speech to be delivered Thursday afternoon, describes that it more or less calls for a people's uprising in Communist-run China:

Mr. Pompeo says Chinese leader Xi Jinping is a “true believer in a bankrupt totalitarian ideology.” Mr. Pompeo stops shy of explicitly calling for regime change, urging allied countries and the people of China to work with the U.S. to change the Communist Party’s behavior.

The Communist Party “fears the Chinese people’s honest opinions more than any foreign foe,” Mr. Pompeo plans to say in the speech at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. The U.S. “must also engage and empower the Chinese people,” Mr. Pompeo says, according to the draft.

The speech is entitled “Communist China and the Free World’s Future” and promises to be the most fiery yet, after a series of top officials as well as senators like Marco Rubio, have lambasted China's theft of trade secrets and coronavirus research.

Pompeo also recently vowed in an interview, “Look, the American people are not going to allow our economic work, our talent to be stolen by the Chinese Communist Party.”

After this week the FBI said the Chinese government is acting like "an organized criminal syndicate" for widespread cyber theft and hacking of American trade secrets as well as coronavirus research, State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said earlier in the day Thursday it's estimated that China stole at least $1 billion total in research from the United States.

Amazingly, stocks have thus far ignored the growing all-out diplomatic war between Washington and Beijing, but that could change by the day's end, depending perhaps on just what is layed out in the Secretary of State's impeding address.
