Here’s a headline you likely saw over the past 24 hours about what’s happening in Florida.

“Florida sets new daily mark for COVID-19 deaths while DeSantis finds ‘positive trends.’”

The Tallahassee Democrat, which ran that headline, goes on to say that “Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has been sued by the state’s largest teachers union over his administration’s order to reopen schools next month for in-person classes, went to an Orlando hospital Tuesday to highlight what he called ‘positive trends’ in hospital admissions in Central Florida.”

Note the sneering attitude. Deaths are skyrocketing while an out-of-touch Republican governor talks about “positive trends.”

On Wednesday, Florida reported a record high 216 deaths and “the grim news comes a day after the state set the record with 186 virus-related deaths,” as NBC Miami put it.

In fact, the record high for the daily number of deaths in the state appears to have been on July 16, when 123 people in the state were known to have died with the disease.

As of Wednesday night, Florida’s COVID-19 surveillance dashboard showed only 13 deaths on July 28.

So, there is narrative and there is reality. And reality is that today there is huge demand for the U.S. dollar regardless of what the headlines tell you.

That said, that doesn’t mean that demand doesn’t ebb and flow. And now that we’re on the other side of the first wave of this crisis period, marginal dollar hoarding has slacked off.

This is most evident in the dramatic rise in the euro back above $1.17 and the British pound breaking back to challenge $1.30. But in the grand scheme of things these are just relief rallies within primary bear markets

Google: ‘If You Don’t Let Us Steal – People Will Stop Making Things for Us to Steal’

The police (God bless them) catch the guy. And off to court you go – to ensure the larcenist receives what he’s judicially due.

And in court, in his defense, the thief asserts:

“If you punish me for stealing money – people will stop making money for me to steal.”

Your jaw – and the jaws of everyone else in the room with an IQ above nine – would be on the floor.

This mandible-lowering inanity is precisely the argument Google is about to make before the Supreme Court.

Google is arguing that if they can’t steal Oracle’s Java computer code – people will stop making things like Oracle’s Java for Google to steal.

How stupid is that?

The dispute centers on the use of parts of the Java programming language’s application programming interfaces (APIs), which are owned by Oracle, within early versions of the Android operating system by Google. Stop right there.

Google admits they used Oracle’s Java. In fact, Google used 11,500 lines of Oracle’s Java code.

According to authorities, Spackman was part of an underground internet network called The Other Place. In 2017, a police investigation found Spackman in possession of over one million images and videos at his home on a whopping 68 different electronic devices.

Judge Peter Johnson, of the Exeter Crown Court in England, where Spackman lives, noted that this was ‘an astonishing number’ of images and videos. Despite the judge admitting to the utterly shocking nature of Spackman’s crimes, he let him walk free.

Acronym CEO Tara McGowan, in a leaked memo obtained by Vice, has stated that the goal of establishing Courier Newsroom is to defeat Republicans on the new frontier of Internet political advertising. McGowan attributes Trump’s 2016 success to the campaign’s ability to “shape and drive mainstream media coverage” through an influx of internet spending. Courier seeks to counter this by challenging Trump on social media. By definition, Courier serves as a political advertising operation for the Democratic party rather than a legitimate media source.

Yesterday, Vox somehow managed to write an entire article about the history of Oracle and its founder Larry Ellison without mentioning the CIA even once. Which is pretty astounding, given the fact that Oracle takes its name from a 1977 CIA project codename. And that the CIA was Oracle's first customer.

Vox simply says that Oracle was founded in "the late 1970s" and "sells a line of software products that help large and medium-sized companies manage their operations." All of which is true! But as the article continues, it somehow ignores the fact that Oracle has always been a significant player in the national security industry. And that its founder would not have made his billions without helping to build the tools of our modern surveillance state.

"Recognizing the potential demand for a commercial database product, [Ellison] founded the company that became Oracle in 1977," Vox writes, conspicuously omitting the whole "because CIA wanted a relational database" part of the history.
